WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Priest and Ripley get revenge on Judgment Day, Reed brutalizes Rollins

WWE wasted no time getting to big stories after Saturday's SummerSlam. Monday night's episode of Raw was packed with big moments and the building blocks as they move to Battle in Berlin and beyond. Among the biggest moments coming out of Monday were Gunther agreeing to defend the world heavyweight championship against Randy Orton, Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley looking for revenge on their former Judgment Day teammates, and a brutal attack by Bronson Reed that sent Seth Rollins to the hospital. The Wyatt Sicks also made a successful in-ring debut, defeating Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers in the night's main event.

  • Gunther was confronted by Randy Orton, with the pair eventually agreeing to a match at Bash in Berlin. Gunther opened the show to celebrate winning the world heavyweight championship at SummerSlam when Orton interrupted. Gunther said it did bother him that he didn't beat Orton clean in the King of the Ring finals and agreed but told Orton he is never caught by surprise. Orton responded he didn't even want to hit an "RKO out of nowhere," he wanted Gunther to see it coming.
  • Sheamus def. Ludwig Kaiser via pinfall after a Brogue Kick. Pete Dunne attacked Sheamus during the match but Sheamus got the win anyway. Before the match, Sheamus said all the young lions had decided to gun for him and they can bring it on because he's ready for a fight.
  • Lyra Valkyria def. Shayna Baszler via disqualification after interference from Sonya Deville and Zoey Stark. As the group tried to continue the attack, Damage CTRL ran in to run them out of the ring.
  • New Day def. Authors of Pain via pinfall with a Xavier Woods small package. Odyssey Jones ran down toward the end of the match, attacking Karrion Kross to set up the finish. Jones then jumped in the ring to save Woods from a beatdown after the match, taking out Kross and Authors of Pain.
  • A-Town Down Under def. Awesome Truth via pinfall when Austin Theory hit R-Truth with A-Town Down.
  • Iyo Sky def. Sonya Deville via pinfall with a moonsault. Baszler, Deville and Stark took out Dakota Kai backstage later in the show, injuring her knee to prevent the planned match between Deville and Kai. As a result, Sky came to the ring for the match instead and picked up the win.
  • The Wyatt Sicks def. American Made via pinfall after Dexter Lumis hit a top rope splash on Chad Gable. Gable told Maxxine Dupri that the former Alpha Academy members could keep the name before branding his new group with the Creed Brothers "American Made."

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: CM Punk springs a surprise attack on Drew McIntyre; Bron Breakker retains

With CM Punk having travel issues and not in the arena for Monday's episode of Raw, Drew McIntyre felt free to put his focus on the perceived injustice of SmackDown's Randy Orton getting a shot at Gunther and the world heavyweight championship at Bash in Berlin. Unfortunately for McIntyre, Punk's travel issues were just a ploy to get the Scot's guard down. Punk was in attendance and he delivered a lashing to McIntyre, using his foe's own belt to do so. Things are continuing to heat up as the two are destined for another confrontation after McIntyre got the better of things at SummerSlam. The night was capped off with a fantastic match between Sami Zayn and Bron Breakker for Breakker's intercontinental championship.

  • Damian Priest def. Carlito via pinfall after South of Heaven. The match started after Rhea Ripley opened the show with an in-ring promo. As expected, she was interrupted by Dominik Mysterio and Liv Morgan up high in the arena. Ripley said it was all a ruse to suss out their location and Priest attacked Mysterio. After a brawl, dominated by Priest and Ripley, the match with Carlito happened, with Priest dominating. Judgment Day attacked after the match but were run off by Ripley and Priest again. A mixed tag team match with Priest and Ripley taking on Mysterio and Morgan was later announced for Bash in Berlin.
  • Odyssey Jones def. Vincent Winey via pinfall. New Day was with Jones for the match but Xavier Woods was clearly not thrilled with Kofi Kingson continuing to support Jones. After the match, Karrion Kross and Final Testament came out to tell Woods that Kingston wasn't trying to replace Big E's role in New Day, Kingston was using Jones to fill Woods' role. This led to a challenge for a six-man tag next week.
  • American Made def. Alpha Academy via pinfall. Ivy Nile appealed to Maxxine Dupri to join American Made earlier in the show, which Dupri refused saying she couldn't leave her family. During the match, Nile attacked Dupri, causing a distraction that led to the finish.
  • Pete Dunne was interviewed and claimed his issues with Sheamus stem from people thinking he was under Sheamus' wing during the Fight Night days when he is, in fact, his own man. Dunne would attack Sheamus later in the show.
  • Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark def. Iyo Sky & Kairi Sane via disqualification after Unholy Union interfered. The match was to name a No. 1 contender but ended when the champs ran in.
  • Bronson Reed def. The Miz via pinfall after a Tsunami. Reed told Adam Pearce that his attack on Seth Rollins was a result of not being given an opportunity, so he took out everyone's favorite wrestler. Reed then demanded he be given an opponent or he would go looking for another victim. R-Truth told Miz that he got him a match for the intercontinental championship against "Bron," which turned out to be Reed. After the match, Reed hit a series of Tsunamis on Truth despite being screamed at by Pearce.
  • Intercontinental Championship – Bron Breakker (c) def. Sami Zayn in a two-out-of-three falls match. Zayn picked up the first fall with a Helluva Kick. Breakker mostly dominated the action while growing increasingly frustrated before finally evening things at one fall apiece up after a pair of spears. The ending of the match saw a flurry of near finishes, including Zayn countering a spear into a Helluva Kick, but Zayn went to the top rope and Breakker caught him with a mid-air spear to retain the title.

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Randy Orton gets one over on Gunther and Ludwig Kaiser ahead of Bash in Berlin

With less than two weeks until Bash in Berlin, things heated up significantly on Raw this Monday night. That included the issues between world heavyweight champion Gunther and his Bash in Berlin challenger, Randy Orton. Orton and Gunther came face-to-face early in the show only for Orton to be attacked by Gunther's lackey, Ludwig Kaiser. By the end of the night, Orton had defeated Kaiser and delivered a very physical message to Gunther ahead of their match on Aug. 31.

Sheamus def. Pete Dunne via pinfall after a Brogue Kick. Dunne targeted Sheamus' injured hand throughout the match before trapping it in the turnbuckle pad and delivering a kick. An enraged Sheamus snapped off the pad and delivered the finishing Brogue Kick.

Ivy Nile vs. Maxxine Dupri ended when the Wyatt Sicks attacked. The lights went out as Nile had the advantage and Nikki Cross appeared in the ring. After Chad Gable and the Creed Brothers tried to back her down, the rest of the Wyatt Sicks attacked, with Uncle Howdy eventually putting Gable down with a Sister Abigail.

CM Punk and Drew McIntyre agreed to a strap match at Bash in Berlin. Punk, having been inspired by whipping McIntyre with a belt the previous Monday, threw down the challenge. McIntyre came out to accept and said Punk must have started drinking if he wants a strap match with him.

New Day & Odyssey Jones def. The Final Testament via pinfall when Jones hit Rezar with a Journey's End.

Bronson Reed def. The Miz via pinfall with a Tsunami in a no disqualification match. Miz was looking for revenge after Reed injured R-Truth and told Adam Pearce he will always defend the few friends he has in the industry. As Reed went to hit more Tsunamis post-match, Braun Strowman's music hit and he charged to the ring. Reed started smiling before laughing and nodding at Strowman.

Bron Breakker announced that a tournament would be held to determine the next challenger for his intercontinental championship.

Judgment Day beat down Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley. Dominik Mysterio challenged Priest to a match, guaranteeing Judgment Day -- including Liv Morgan -- would remain backstage. Priest told Ripley he knew it was a trap but was going to go through with it anyway. It was a trap and Priest initially fought it off until Ripley appeared in the ring to help attack Mysterio. Eventually, the numbers won out and Judgment Day put down both of the group's former members.

Women's Tag Team Championship – Alba Fyre & Isla Dawn (c) def. Shayna Baszler & Zoey Stark and Iyo Sky & Kairi Sane via pinfall to retain the titles after a swanton bomb on Baszler.

While many wrestling fans may be looking ahead to Survivor Series on Nov. 30, WWE spent Raw placing the building blocks for a compelling Bad Blood Premium Live Event in less than a month. Included in those matches is a Hell in a Cell bout featuring CM Punk and Drew McIntyre. • The Wyatt Sicks def. American Made via pinfall in an eight-person mixed tag team street fight. A chaotic opener to the show with all the car crash elements you'd expect. While Uncle Howdy wasn't in the match, he made his presence known late before Dexter Lumis came off the top rope to finish off Chad Gable.
  • Finn Balor and Damian Priest agreed to a match at Bad Blood. Balor called Priest to the ring after a promo and made the challenge shortly after it was announced that Liv Morgan would defend the women's world championship against Rhea Ripley at Bad Blood. The rest of Judgment Day pounced and eventually overwhelmed Priest until Ripley came out from the back on a crutch. Morgan tried to attack Ripley but Ripley hit Morgan and Dominik Mysterio with the crutch until Morgan attacked her bad knee. Judgment Day wore out Priest and Ripley until Priest covered Ripley's body while Morgan hit him several times with the crutch before Mysterio did the same. Jey Uso eventually ran out to make the save.

This brought out Gunther, who took a few backhanded shots at Hart before Sami Zayn interrupted. Zayn threw down a challenge for a shot at the world heavyweight championship again, and again, Gunther said no. As Gunther left, Hart called him a gutless, yellow coward and a brawl broke out between Zayn and Gunther to end the segment.
  • Dominik Mysterio def. Dragon Lee via pinfall after a frog splash. The LWO and Judgment Day brawled outside the ring, causing a distraction that allowed Liv Morgan to sneak into the ring and chop block Lee. That attack set up Mysterio to hit a 619 and frog splash for the win.
  • Lyra Valkyria, Zelina Vega & Natalya def. Pure Fusion Collective via submission. Natalya was the surprise member of Valkyria and Vega's team and the hometown woman locked up the sharpshooter on Zoey Stark for the victory.
  • Adam Pearce announced Drew McIntyre vs. CM Punk at Bad Blood. McIntyre cut a promo about his attack on Punk last Monday and confronted Wade Barrett about getting in his way. Pearce interrupted and said that McIntyre and Punk would have to meet one more time, announcing the Hell in a Cell match which McIntyre said was signing Punk's death certificate.
  • Rey Mysterio def. Finn Balor via disqualification after Balor refused to release a single-leg crab while Mysterio was in the ropes. Balor continued attacking Mysterio after the match. After being pulled away by WWE officials, Balor ran back to deliver one more running dropkick to send Mysterio crashing into the ring apron.
  • Jey Uso def. Braun Strowman, Pete Dunne and Ilja Dragunov via pinfall to become No. 1 contender to the intercontinental championship. Throughout the show, Bron Breakker came face to face with Strowman, Dunne and Dragunov. The fired-up former WWE champion made his intentions clear heading into a Hell in a Cell match against his rival at Bad Blood on Oct. 5. Monday's episode heavily featured Judgment Day.
