WWE Raw results, recap, grades: The Rock brutalizes Cody Rhodes, leaves him bloodied to close the show

Cody Rhodes had done all the right things and seemingly hit all the right notes ahead of his two main event matches at WrestleMania 40. That changed on Monday night when Rhodes was the victim of a brutal attack at the hands of The Rock. Rhodes and Rock came face-to-face at the start of the show, with Rock making a surprise appearance and whispering a message to "The American Nightmare." What was said in that whisper became clear at the end of the night as The Rock manhandled Rhodes before drawing literal blood as Raw went off the air.

  • Ricochet def. JD McDonagh via pinfall with a shooting star press onto a standing McDonagh. Judgment Day told McDonagh to handle the "Ricochet problem" only for Ricochet to win his third straight match against Judgment Day.
  • As promised, CM Punk was in attendance in his hometown, and as expected, it didn't take long after he entered the ring for Punk to be joined by Drew McIntyre and Seth Rollins. After some back-and0forth by the three men, Punk briefly teased a special guest referee spot for when McIntyre challenges Rollins for the world heavyweight championship at WrestleMania, but ultimately said he would be on commentary where he'd do something neither man had been able to do themselves -- make both men interesting. An irate McIntyre entered the ring after Punk left only to be met by a Rollins superkick and stomp.
  • Candice LeRae def. Ivy Nile via pinfall after faking a knee injury and using the ropes to help her score the pin.
  • The New Day vs. #DIY ended in a no contest after Judgment Day ran in and attacked both teams. R-Truth and Miz were on commentary and though Truth tried to fight off the entire Judgment Day, he was eventually taken down as well.
  • Andrade def. Giovanni Vinci via pinfall with The Message.
  • Becky Lynch and Rhea Ripley brawled after Lynch interrupted a Ripley promo. Lynch dropped Dominik Mysterio with a punch before the brawl, only for Ripley to send her shoulder-first into the ring post.
  • Bronson Reed def. Sami Zayn via pinfall with a Tsunami. Zayn was distracted after Gunther came out from backstage to watch the match from the entrance ramp.

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Becky Lynch wins women's world title, Gunther enters King of the Ring 2024

One week ago, Rhea Ripley was forced to end her year-long reign as women's world champion due to an injury that will keep her out of action for the next few months. That left WWE scrambling to crown a new champion, a situation the company addressed with a battle royal in the main event of Raw on Monday night. When the show came to a close, it was Becky Lynch who was holding the championship, last eliminating Liv Morgan to kick off her seventh run as world champion.

  • Jey Uso and Damian Priest came face-to-face to open the show. The pair exchanged mostly respectful words about their upcoming match at Backlash for Priest's world heavyweight championship before JD McDonagh attempted a sneak attack on Uso. This was clearly against Priest's wishes but also led to Priest taking an Uso superkick intended for McDonagh in the chaos.
  • World Tag Team Championship – The Awesome Truth (c) def. #DIY via pinfall with the Truth-Crushing Finale to retain the titles. Johnny Gargano shook Miz and R-Truth's hands but Tommaso Ciampa refused before walking away.
  • Gunther returned to Raw for the first time since losing the intercontinental championship to Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 40. Gunther thanked Zayn for defeating him and taking the target off his back and now he would go on to new and bigger things, starting with declaring himself for the King of the Ring tournament.
  • The New Day def. Imperium via pinfall after Xavier Woods pinned Giovanni Vinci. The match came about after New Day interrupted Gunther's promo, with Woods talking about being the reigning King of the Ring. Gunther was furious after Imperium's loss. Ludwig Kaiser consoled Vinci after the defeat but attacked his partner after the two left the ring. The attack ended after WWE officials pulled Kaiser away. Kaiser then broke free and dropkicked Vinci's head into the ring steps. Backstage, Gunther gave Kaiser a smile of approval.
  • Sheamus def. Shinsuke Nakamura via pinfall with a Brogue Kick. Drew McIntyre was watching from ringside after the two came face-to-face before the match, with Sheamus telling McIntyre to get over himself and stop blaming everyone else for his problems.
  • Bronson Reed attacked Sami Zayn backstage after Zayn told Reed if he wanted a shot at the title, he could have one anywhere, any time.
  • Chad Gable addressed his attack on Sami Zayn after last Monday's match, ultimately saying it should have been his moment but he wasted so much time recently training losers. After running down Akira Tozawa, Maxxine Dupri and Otis, he made them say they'd have his back in getting the intercontinental title "no matter what."
  • Andrade & Ricochet def. JD McDonagh & Santos Escobar via pinfall when Andrade hit McDonagh with The Shadow. Priest attacked the winners after the match, frustrated McDonagh and Escobar hadn't handled business. Dominik Mysterio was unable to participate in the match due to an elbow injury. Priest then told Mysterio and McDonagh, "I don't need anybody, you need me."

  • Drew McIntyre opened the show with an in-ring interview. After talking about CM Punk and Jey Uso, McIntyre attempted to turn his attention to Damian Priest. Ultimately, this led to Priest telling McIntyre he'd give him a shot at the world heavyweight championship whenever he gets medically cleared.

  • Becky Lynch punched Liv Morgan backstage when Morgan interrupted an interview with Lyra Valkyria.
  • Bronson Reed def. Akira Tozawa via pinfall with a Tsunami. The match came about after Chad Gable set up Tozawa and Otis with matches against Reed and Sami Zayn, respectively. Gable ran all of Alpha Academy down and demanded they turn things around, leading to him berating Tozawa after his loss.
  • Queen of the Ring Quarterfinals -- Lyra Valkyria def. Zoey Stark via pinfall after hitting Nightwing to advance to the semifinals.
  • Sami Zayn def. Otis via pinfall after a Helluva Kick. Despite Gable telling Otis both before the match and during to not do "the worm," Otis did so. This led to Gable distracting Otis as he yelled at him from the ring apron. Gable yelled at Otis after the match and Zayn ran back in but Otis helped save his coach. Despite this, Gable slapped Otis before the two walked backstage.

WWE Raw results, recap, grades: Liv Morgan retains against Becky Lynch, Gunther targets Damian Priest

Two days after Liv Morgan defeated Becky Lynch at King and Queen of the Ring to become women's world champion, Morgan was forced to give Lynch a rematch on Raw. The rematch came in the form of a steel cage match and Morgan was once again victorious thanks to a failed attempt at interference from Dominik Mysterio. Mysterio came to the cage in an attempt to help Lynch escape and regain the title, trying to right the wrong of when he slid a chair into the ring for Lynch on Saturday, only for Morgan to use the chair to win the title. Once again, his attempt to help Lynch backfired as he accidentally slammed the cage door on Lynch's head thanks to a rampaging Braun Strowman. Morgan added a bit of spice -- and some confusion -- to the situation after the match, kissing Mysterio before the show went off the air.

As Uso's music played and the show was about to go off the air, Bron Breakker ran to the ring and hit Zayn with a spear before sliding out before Uso could get to him.
