XFL pitches league to agents in attempt to counteract USFL, source says

The XFL continued its efforts to counterprogram the USFL's return to the field by convening a virtual meeting of agents Monday night to pitch them on the league's plans for 2023 and beyond, a source told ESPN. The XFL's top football executives -- Marc Ross, Doug Whaley and Russ Giglio -- told agents that the XFL would offer higher salaries and better benefits than the USFL. Each of the XFL's eight teams is expected to have 70-man rosters, with 45 active for games, translating to 560 jobs for players -- about 200 more than the current roster limits of the USFL. USFL players signed two-year contracts, complicating any effort to switch leagues in 2023.

Sources: Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson skips scheduled XFL tryout

Retired NFL receiver Chad Johnson did not participate in a tryout Monday with the XFL as scheduled, according to multiple people familiar with the situation. Johnson, 42, announced last week on Twitter that he would work out as a place-kicker with the new league. A source confirmed that Johnson was set to be evaluated alongside a number of other potential kickers as the XFL wrapped up its first training camp. Johnson was a six-time Pro Bowl player in the NFL and has often expressed sincere interest in kicking. In fact, he converted an extra point and kicked off for the Cincinnati Bengals during the 2009 preseason. Last month, he posted a video on Instagram in which he converted what he wrote was a 60-yard field goal.

Vince McMahon's XFL Lawsuit Officially Dismissed

WWE's Vince McMahon just received some good news, as Former XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck and McMahon have come to a confidential settlement regarding the lawsuit against McMahon for termination without cause (via PWinsider). The lawsuit was officially dismissed with prejudice on June 29th in the United States District Court of Connecticut, though the settlement amount is not known at this time. The two sides originally held a settlement conference earlier in the year, but reports at the time said that conference just lasted 9 minutes, moving that case to trail. For those unfamiliar with the XFL lawsuit, Luck alleges that he was fired without cause and had a personal guarantee from McMahon regarding his contract. Luck has said he was supposed to be paid between $20 and $25 million over the course of five years, and as part of the lawsuit has asked a judge to order McMahon to store $23.8 million to reward him after the suit is decided in his favor.

Revamped XFL reveals its eight team, logos for 2023 season
Most of the names at least reference those used during the league's 2020 season. The only new name is for San Antonio. Orlando and Vegas adopted names from the now-defunct 2020 teams in New York and Tampa Bay, respectively. The Arlington Renegades were known as the Dallas Renegades in 2020.

The XFL is set to begin playing Feb. 18, 2023, nearly three years after it suspended its season amid the COVID-19 pandemic and later declared bankruptcy. It will hold a draft next month.

XFL 2023: Team Logos, Names, Coaches, Stadium, More
The XFL is back in 2023, its third iteration after trying to launch a spring football league two other times. The first came in 2001, and there was also a COVID-19 shortend attempt in 2020. Before the league, which is being run by an ownership group headed by league co-owners Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and Dany Garcia, can get going, however, it first needed its eight teams to have logos and team names.
