Merlin

Anthony gives head!

B rated bullshit....

Having seen Dr Who, it gets annoying that about a quarter of the episodes are redresses of previous eps. Then, others are stellar. Very uneven. Can we expect the same from Merlin? Will this become a Hulu staple?

Watched it tonight, it was okay. Anthony Head is good as the asshole king. He should slap the shit out of Arthur sometime. The plot was a bit simplistic and predictable and the episode could probably have used a B-story. And Richard Wilson looked like a moron when he left the injured guy alone since it was so fucking obvious that snake bastard would kill him. But it was watchable all the way through and certainly not as bad as shit like Robin Hood.

Is Robin Hood an actual series, or was it a miniseries?

It's a series, but over here there's only enough budget for a series to last 6-10 episodes. IMDb says Robin Hood got 13 in the first season and 13 in the second. There's another season coming up by the looks of things. What a waste of money.

Merlin wasn't bad last night. Not as good as the first episode, but not terrible. PREDICTION: at some point in the series, Merlin and Arthur hastily emerge from a cupboard wearing eachother's tunics and with love bites and messed up hair.

Then you wake up.

I bet he could do a few things with that magic of his! Phwoar!

Another decent slice of "family" drama tonight. Again the plot was predictable, the dragon speaking in riddles seems unnecessary and makes him look like a bit of an asshole (I missed the first episode, why is he chained up?) The problem again was a lack of depth: Michelle Ryan's witch character did nothing but stand over a pool of water looking evil. Why was she poisoning Camelot? Just because it's the kind of thing evil people do? At least there was a hint at some history between her and Giles and she's in it again next week, though it seems next week's will follow the "someone's dying/in prison, we need to heal them/free them!" formula again, this time with Merlin.

I thought the same about next week's ep, but I suppose it makes sense that if she'd attack them again, it'd be in a similar way as the poisoning.

In the first ep they explained that King Uther Stewart Head had outlawed sorcery and killed all the dragons, only keeping John Hurt as an example, but locking him away beneath the castle. They also showed (in the very first scene IIRC) a guy being beheaded because he used magic.

This week's was okay. Fairly straightforward story, but still entertaining. On the plus side, seems like it was a setup for next week, so that ought to be more exciting.

I like the bit when OOTA GOOTA PENDRAGON DID A PRAT FALL INTO A MUDDY PUDDLE, AND THE JUDGES FROM STRICTLY COME DANCING RAN ON AND HELP UP SCORES OF 8 EACH, THEN VICTOR MELDREW ASKED MICHELLE RYAN SLATER IF SHE HAD REALLY BECOME FAMOUS IN AMERICA, EXCLAIMING "I DON'T BELIEVE IT!", WHILST THE DRAGON JOHN HURT STUMBLED ABOUT CONFUSED THAT HE HAD TAKEN SUCH A SHITTY JOB BECAUSE HE'S A FINE ACK-TOR, WHILST THE MERLIN & ARTHUR KIDS PLAYED SOME NINTENDO, BUT NOT THE BLACK GIRL BECAUSE THEY'VE SENSITIVELY CAST HER AS A FUCKING SLAVE (THEY ALL WERE BACK THEN) WILL NEXT WEEK'S EPISODE STAR OZ FROM BUFFY AS A TINY MITE CALLED 'PETER' AND A BUCKET OF DEAD FISH HEADS AS MERLIN'S LOVE INTEREST BUT AT NO POINT DO THEY REFER TO IT AS A BUCKET OF DEAD FISH HEADS, OR EVEN ACT THAT WAY, PUT TREAT IT AS IF IT'S A BEAUTIFUL WOMAN CALLED MIRANDA LOL MIRIAM MARGOLYES STOLE MY A-TEAM PLASTER-OF -PARIS CAST & PAINT YOUR OWN KIT :(

I see. What an asshole!

So yeah, how come Guinevere's black and a servant? Isn't Morgana (the girl who looks like, frankly, a fitter version of Michelle Ryan) a villain in the Arthur myth but she's good here (and fit)? Isn't Arthur supposed to marry Guinevere but she runs off with Lancelot played by Isaac from Heroes? I guess you should just forget everything you vaguely know about King Arthur when watching.

MICHELLE RYAN WAS HOT.

Okay yes she didn't do much except stand and look evil BUT SHE DID IT HOT.

FUCK Y'ALL WHO DON'T THINK SHE'S HOT.

Also I'm really getting tired of the "Hello John Hert the dragon please give me some cryptic advice so we can advance the plot THANKS!" scenes.

The thing that gets me about the dragon visits is that in the first episode they establish that he's guarded by two soldiers. They're playing a game, so Merlin distracts them by making their dice move away and then keep moving further when they catch up to it (like the old bank note on a string routine). Well anyway, he's been down there several times now, so surely they're getting suspicious that every week things start flying round the room. Especially since he does it twice each time. Once on the way in and once on the way back out.

Yeah, I know I'm analysing it too much but if Harry Hill were still TV burping he might have a thing or two to say about it!

Also, the IMDb Merlin boards are filled with people moaning about Gwen being black, but I don't see the big deal. It's already a myth, WITH a dragon! Who cares if she's black? Although my friend pointed out that her black dad the blacksmith was referred to as an armoursmith.

I DID notice that her dad was the BLACKsmith too, but that's the kind of thing I notice. Yeah, it's hardly a historically accurate show with Merlin using words like "yeah" and "wikipedia" (note, this is a lie) every week.

And I have defended Michelle Ryan in the past and I do think she's fairly hot, but the girl who plays Morgana looks like her a bit but is hotter and sounds kind of welsh. SORRY.

I thought she had an Irish accent, but yeah, she's hot.

I concur with the statements of hotness.

Maybe I thought welsh because Arthur was a Welsh/Cornish type thing, but whatever, that English or Scottish = hot!

Why does Michelle Ryan's character walk as if she has an ostrich feather up her arse, and as if she just stepped out of the bath?

Is it because of OMFG BREASTS?

Quite possibly.

I expected Arthur's quest to be a bit more lengthy and interesting, but not a bad episode... looks like Michelle Ryan will be returning once again.
