Strange New Worlds season 3

For a moment, I got the impression he was going to wipe everyone's memories of the Gorn back to reset, and that would explain how they became a "new" encounter in TOS.
That would have been an extremely lame reset button push. Glad it didn't go there.

I enjoyed this one, finally Ortegas got an episode centered on her and Navia pulled it off nicely. A minor complaint about time passage, four hours or whatever on the Enterprise seemed more like days on the moon. Nice references to the Constellation and Captain Decker (future RIP). Enemies surviving together has been done countless times within Star Trek and without, but I think it worked here. Didn't really mind the Metron thing at the end. I guess it could be considered a sort of... not a retcon but an addition. The Gorn costume/effects are pretty impressive as well. The whole thing looked damn good, visually.

9/10

Besides those old TOS eps, it also reminded me of Enemy Mine (which I haven't seen in years).

I think this was one of the better SNW episodes.

It just occurred to me: there was a very limited cast for this episode: no M'Benga, Chapel, Scotty or Palia. And most of all: No James Kirk.

Maybe a reduced cast made this episode tighter.

BTW, when was the last time we saw Sam Kirk?

Yeah, limited cast helped the flow, not too many side-plots. Last time Sam was on was ep 5 I think.

I want to amend this part. After a rewatch with subtitles on (ain't deaf yet ya know!), it would seem the Enterprise had been hanging around out there for 46 hours at some point. I'm not sure how that aligns with the vaccine emergency, but it might work.

I don't think they outright specified about the time on that. Just that they really needed to hurry etc, etc.

It did seem weird she took the time to teach the Gorn chess and play several games (and learn the Gorn version of chess in return.) I still haven't learned chess in my whole lifetime, let alone 46 hours.

I learned chess in the 5th grade. What's wrong with you? :D

This kind of felt like an ending, like they didn't know at the time they had more seasons to come.

And yet it's also quite unsatisfying, the Patel Pike lifetime always felt so fake, I didn't feel anything when she was gone.

A couple of nods to doctor who in this one, one subtle, one not so much.

Once again evil is thwarted with the power of love.

Yeah, that did come off as a series finale.

I've got some long debates with myself coming until the premiere of season 4 as to whether or not I care about this show anymore. We'll see.

I liked the episode. The whole alternate Pike/Craptel future thing was boring, but I'm just glad that plotline is over.

I agree this felt like a we might not get renewed sort of episode, which is fine since over all it was a good episode. There is nothing worse then a cliffhanger episode, then it gets the bat'leth.

3.10 - It was good, I liked that they tried to give everyone something to do. The 'Inner Light' bit was never going to be as good as the original but it was well done and Anson Mount does good confused face acting. Not really sure how Marie went from being part Gorn to being the Beyonder or whatever? I mean, I know there were a couple of lines explaining it but they went by fast.

Definitely felt like it was meant to work as a series finale. I'm glad it wasn't another two-parter story, having to wait over two years for the last one to be resolved was annoying.

Kirk and Spock mind meld then never mention it again in the next like thirty years of friendship (which we see on screen)? Sure, whatever! Spock just casually mind melding with him in the bar as if it's nothing? That's the kind of thing I don't like about SNW - a total lack of weight to what should be a big deal.

I'll probably post thoughts on the whole season sometime!

As I understood it, Chapel theorized that different races had encountered these evil creatures before, fought them, and therefore their biology adapted to the conflict. Patel had Gorn DNA plus some other DNA (can't recall) and that supposedly gave her the ability to fight these things. I've heard Baptist theological arguments that made more sense than this, but whatever.

I knew they were keeping Patel up front all season for a definite reason. This was it.

So, with Corby and Patel gone, next season should have a lighter cast. Maybe MILFY Una will get some more screen time.

Was it just me, or was Pelia really hard to understand this episode? She sounded like a drunk trying to talk her way out of a DUI.

It would have been a good series finale, I think. But since it wasn't, the end dragged on too long.

I thought it was kinda cool that Pike and Patel got to have a life like Picard did when with the probe thingy and he learned to play the flute.
