I hated the animated Beast Wars. The more recent live action version was much better.I never really got into Beast Wars, I was "too old" for it by the time it came out but not yet at the age when I was old enough to start liking things from childhood again.
Maybe someday I'll try to re-watch animated Beast Wars with less jaded eyes. Loved G1 Transformers and maybe a little G2. I think for me it started going downhill for me when they started messing with the awesome G1 theme song. Then came the stupid Targetmaster and Headmaster bullshit. By then my teenage self was like Ugh. I now they've got a Beast mode. *rolls eyes*I'll got to bat for The Beast Wars show from the 90's since it was more thoughtfully written and paced than many modern streaming service "prestige" dramas that are apparently made for grown ups, hardly surprising when you realize that one of the series' showrunners was Babylon 5's story editor. Beast Wars had Shakespearean characters who experienced existential crises, and grew into it's story into a biblically epic plot that retroactively got kids in the 90's like me interested in classic Transformers. Also, it had shredding electric guitar solos and sexual innuendo.
By comparison the recent live action movie was generic and forgettable, featuring crudely defined characters even for what is ostensibly still just a toy commercial. At least it had Ron Perlman, I guess.
