To be fair, I'm OK with it. Because the reality of the Transformers is like so much 1980s Japanese stuff--they just took existing stuff and then shoehorned it into a package that worked for Americans. So you get odd things like how the good robots are cars and the bad ones are aircraft--when this would seem to give a big advantage to the bad robots. Or how everything else (except Soundwave) turns into things that are more or less to scale with each other while Megatron turns into a P-38 Walther that is more or less actual size. In the cartoon they explained it away as him being a giant cannon, but the other thing is, like the ambulance, Megatron's robot version is kind of lame so they changed it for the cartoon. In conclusion, while the Bay films were Abomination, I'm onboard with a Megatron that looks like a menacing powerful evil tank in vehicle mode and actually looks like the cartoon in robot mode (and, I should point out, nothing like the Bay robot version).
