NC State freshman Terquavion Smith entering NBA draft


NC State freshman Terquavion Smith will declare for the 2022 NBA draft, he told ESPN on Tuesday. Smith, the No. 39 prospect in the ESPN 100, was named to the ACC's All-Rookie Team as well as All-Conference honorable mention after averaging 16.3 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.1 assists for the Wolfpack.

North Carolina Tar Heels' Armando Bacot returning for senior college basketball season


North Carolina star big man Armando Bocot is returning to the Tar Heels for his senior season, he announced Wednesday, cementing him in the discussion for preseason Wooden Award honors. Bacot, a 6-foot-10 center from Richmond, Virginia, is coming off a dominant junior season in which he earned first-team All-ACC honors. He averaged 16.1 points and ranked third in the country with 13.1 rebounds. He also shot 56.9% from the field, good enough to rank in the top 25 nationally. He averaged 15.3 points and 16.5 rebounds in the six games, including 20 points and 22 rebounds in the Elite Eight win over Saint Peter's and 15 points and 15 rebounds in the title game against Kansas.

Jeremy Sochan, Baylor men's basketball freshman, entering NBA draft


Baylor freshman Jeremy Sochan will enter the 2022 NBA draft and forgo his remaining college eligibility by hiring agents, he told ESPN on Friday. "I am fortunate enough to be declaring for the 2022 NBA draft," Sochan, the No. 14 prospect in the ESPN 100, told ESPN. He said he would sign with Jim Tanner and Deirunas Visockas of Tandem Sports. Sochan was named Big 12 Sixth Man of the Year, All-Big 12 honorable mention and made the Big 12 All-Freshman team after averaging 9.2 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 25 minutes per game last season. He helped Baylor to a 27-7 record and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament, establishing himself as one of the best defenders in the college game along the way.

Leaky Black returning to North Carolina men's basketball for fifth year


North Carolina wing Leaky Black is returning for a fifth year, available because of the COVID-19 pandemic, providing another boost to the Tar Heels after their run to the NCAA championship game. The 6-foot-8, 200-pound Black announced his decision in a social-media video. The NCAA in October 2020 granted basketball and other winter-sports athletes in Division I an additional year of eligibility if they competed during the 2020-21 season. Black is the Tar Heels' top defensive player, capable of defending multiple positions. He averaged 4.9 points, 4.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists as a full-time starter.

Shaedon Sharpe, who never played for Kentucky as a freshman, to enter 2022 NBA draft, sources say


Elite guard Sharon Sharpe plans to stay in the NBA draft and not return to Kentucky, sources told ESPN on Thursday. Sharpe announced earlier this month that he was entering the draft but maintaining his college eligibility. Despite having until June 1 to withdraw from the draft, Sharpe is expected to announce in the coming days his intentions to keep his name in it, sources told ESPN. A 6-foot-6 guard from Canada, Sharpe rose to the top of the ESPN 100 after a dominant summer for the UPlay Canada grassroots program on the Nike EYBL circuit. He averaged 22.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.7 assists while shooting 55.6% on 2s and 36.1% from 3-point range.

Paolo Banchero to declare for NBA draft after one season with Duke Blue Devils


Duke's Paolo Banchero is leaping to the NBA after one season and is a contender to be the No. 1 draft pick. Banchero had been viewed as a likely one-and-done player even before he stepped foot on the Durham, North Carolina, campus from Seattle. Banchero averaged 17.2 points and 7.8 rebounds, cracking the 20-point mark 15 times and failing to reach double figures only twice in 39 games.

Gonzaga Bulldogs senior Andrew Nembhard to declare for 2022 NBA draft


Nembhard, the No. 50 prospect in the ESPN 100, was named first-team All-WCC after averaging 11.8 points, 5.8 assists and 1.6 assists for the Zags, who were the NCAA tournament's No. 1 overall seed. Nembhard posted career highs in every category this year, including shooting 38% for 3s and 87% from the free throw line. Having entered the NBA draft in 2019 and 2020, he cannot withdraw his name from consideration after declaring for a third time.

Trevor Keels joins Duke teammates in declaring for NBA draft


Trevor Keelsbecame the fourth Duke player in the past week to put his name into the NBA draft when he announced his plans on social media Saturday. Keels, listed as the No. 26 pick in ESPN's most recent mock draft, averaged 11.5 points, 3.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists as a freshman at Duke. He had his best game of the NCAA tournament against rival North Carolina in the Final Four, scoring 19 points with two rebounds during the upset loss. In the past week, Wendell Moore Jr.., Paolo Banchero and Mark Williams also announced that they would be entering the draft from Duke.
