The Gamecocks received all 35 first-place votes Monday in the latest Associated Press women's basketball poll after their 76-70 road victory over then-No. 9 LSU.

Reigning winner Zack Edey, the dominant 7-foot-4 Purdue star, headlined the men's Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 list announced Tuesday night. The award is given annually to the best college basketball player in the country. Edey was the runaway Wooden Award winner on the men's side last season and entered this season as the heavy favorite to become the first repeat winner since Virginia's Ralph Sampson won the 1982 and 1983 awards.

WOMEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

February is here, and as the frenzy leading up to Selection Sunday jumps into another gear, it's a good time for a reminder about the women's selection process and one element that causes some confusion and misinformation annually. The women's committee doesn't use the quadrant system utilized on the men's side. If you hear references to Quad 1 wins or Quad 3 losses, ignore them. They don't exist. The quad system incorporates where a game is played in measuring the significance of a win or a loss. While the women's committee considers the value of a road win vs. one at home, it's not plugged into the metric like it is in the men's game. Top-25, top-50 and top-100 NET wins are the reference points in women's basketball.

MEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

Memphis basketball and a roulette wheel have a lot in common -- and here we go again. Three years ago the Tigers won eight of nine to move into the NCAA tournament conversation, only to lose twice to Houston and slip to the NIT (which they won). Two years ago the Tigers won 12 of 13 down the stretch, including a pair of victories over Houston, to reach the NCAAs and the round of 32. Last season the Tigers split the difference and won the American's automatic bid before becoming the first victim of Florida Atlantic's Final Four run.

iowa no. 2 in women's ap top 25, south carolina unanimous no. 1
It's the second time in a few weeks that the Hawkeyes have been second in the poll, a spot that hasn't been kind to teams the past month. UCLA, Iowa and Kansas State all took turns in the second position since Jan. 8 and none of the schools could hold that ranking for more than a week at a time.

women's power rankings: clark helps iowa back No. 2
Iowa guard catlin Clark had been expected to break the NCAA women's baskrtball scoring record in late February. But assuming all continues to go well for her, Clark has potentially sped up the timeline. And her success goes hand in hand with the success of the Hawkeyes, who return to the No. 2 spot in this week's ESPN Power Rankings.

Syracuse dismisses F Benny Williams from men's basketball team

Syracuse has dismissed Benny Williams from its men's basketball program. The school announced Williams' exit Tuesday without disclosing the reason for the 6-foot-9 forward's removal. The statement announcing the decision said "everyone involved with the program wishes Benny the best." Williams had been suspended for the first two games of Syracuse's season because of a violation of team rules. He was averaging 5.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 17 minutes in 18 games this season. Williams had 7.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 22.3 minutes per game last season.

2024 NCAA Tournament Bracketology - Men's
The Mountain West is picking a fine time to emerge as the best college basketball conference on the left coast. Its eight NCAA bids the past two years are one more than the Pac-12, and its five projected tourney slots this season are more than the Pac-12 and WCC combined. And let's not forget its top dog, San Diego State, played in the national championship game last April. With UCLA and USC out the door next year (a cynic might say they already left) -- along with assorted other Pac-12 exports to the Big Ten and Big 12 -- a major void will exist. The MWC, plus WCC stalwarts Gonzaga and Saint Mary's, is proving itself more than capable of competing nationally. With Pac-12 holdovers Oregon State and Washington State joining the WCC for the next two seasons, it will be a whole new world on the left side of the Rockies.

WOMEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

Want to see where the bracket could change in the next two weeks? Keep a close eye on Notre Dame. The Fighting Irish are the next big potential bracket movers. Sure, winning at UConn was huge, but their next-best wins are Tennessee and Miami -- and until now, Notre Dame has benefited from a light ACC schedule. Six of Notre Dame's seven conference wins came against Pitt (twice), Boston College, Georgia Tech, Wake Forest and Virginia. The Irish's No. 8 NET rating looks impressive, but the resume is a little thin. The next 13 days could change that dramatically. Starting Thursday, the Irish play Louisville, Florida State, NC State and Duke -- all probable NCAA tournament teams. These are the games that will show the way if Notre Dame is to be a serious ACC contender and a potential first- and second-round NCAA host.

clemson takes down no.3 unc on road to boost résumé
Joesph Girard IIIadded 21 points for the Tigers (15-7, 5-6 ACC), including a huge 3-pointer at the 2:09 mark to follow Hall's basket. The Tigers never trailed yet had to fight to the final seconds to secure the win against the Tar Heels (18-5, 10-2), who were coming off an emotional rivalry win against No. 9 Duke three days earlier.

********
Clemson lost its first 59 games in Chapel Hill before breaking through in 2020 for an overtime win. Now the Tigers have won two of three trips here since. Clemson has only one other road win vs. an AP top-three opponent in program history: Jan. 1976 vs. No. 2 Maryland.
