acc to hold 2025-29 men's basketball tourneys in north carolina
The men's basketball tournament -- next held in Washington, D.C. in March -- will take place in Charlotte in 2025, 2026 and 2028, while Greensboro will host it in 2027 and 2029. That five-year run in North Carolina would be the longest in the state since holding 11 straight in Charlotte and Greensboro from 1990 to 2000.

Greensboro has hosted the men's tournament a league-high 29 times, while Charlotte is tied for second with 13. The men's basketball tournament -- next held in Washington, D.C. in March.

MEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

A common question in our sprint to Selection Sunday is a variation on an annual theme. "Who is this year's Florida Atlantic?" The Owls' overtime loss Thursday at UAB may add to the perception that last year's leading Cinderella is underachieving. Upon closer inspection, however, the opposite is true. FAU's record (18-5) isn't quite where it was a year ago at this time (22-2), but the Owls played a far tougher non-conference schedule (53rd from 298th), are ranked higher (A.P. No. 20 vs. "others receiving votes") and are doing all of it in a better conference. Further, last season's Final Four team had nothing like this year's wins over tourney-bound Arizona, Texas A&M and Butler. All of which leads us to conclude that "this year's Florida Atlantic" may yet be, well, Florida Atlantic.

WOMEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

The bubble has remained relatively stagnant the last two weeks. Despite plenty of losing by the teams on the right side of the bubble -- Michigan on Wednesday and Tennessee and Vanderbilt on Thursday -- little movement into or out of the field has occurred. Normally a loss would drop them out, but not this time. Why? For one team to fall, another must take its place. Right now, those teams don't exist. Minnesota has lost five in a row. Maryland and Washington have each dropped four of five games. Atlantic 10 contenders Richmond and George Mason are a combined 0-4 against the NET top 50. Cal played USC tough on Sunday but hasn't won since Jan. 21. With so many of the SEC bubble teams taking turns knocking off each other, openings are there to sneak into the field. But to this point, no one is walking through.

no. 23 indiana state for the first time since 1979
Now the Sycamores have something that hasn't happened since Larry Bird played in Terre Haute: a spot in the AP Top 25. UConn and Purdue kept the top two spots in the AP Top 25. The defending national champion Huskies received 45 first-place votes from a 61-person media panel and the Boilermakers had 16.

men's powere rankings: concerns for kentucky, wisconsin as uconn , purdue continues domination
Last week we'd talked here about UConn and Purdue separating themselves from the rest of the country. That theme was cemented once again this past week, with eight of the other 14 teams in last week's Power Rankings suffering at least one defeat. All three teams in the waiting room lost. The next three teams under consideration did, too.

MEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

North Carolina's chase for a No. 1 seed has even more implications than usual this season. For the first two decades of this century, the ACC averaged at least one top seed per year. The conference peaked in 2019, landing three of four No. 1 seeds, including national champion Virginia. Since then, there's not been a single top-line selection from the ACC, its longest drought since seeding began in 1979. In addition, the league has landed only one No. 2 seed since the pandemic. In two of the past three tournaments, its highest-rated entry has been a 4-seed. It's hard to end a decline in the number of overall bids without the usual anchors at the top of the conference. And this update includes only four ACC teams, which would be its lowest total since expanding in 2014. It's fair to say what was once thought to be a blip has instead become a concerning trend.

WOMEN'S BRACKETOLOGY: 2024 NCAA TOURNAMENT

Forget Super Sunday. We had Shakeup Sunday. Upsets and big performances created major changes within the top 16. Ohio State, winner of 11 wins in a row, is the newest No. 1 seed after its rout of Michigan State and Iowa's loss at Nebraska. Oregon State, the other big mover, is now in position to be a host school as a No. 4 seed. The Beavers went from No. 22 in the NET to No. 17 after a sweep at Utah and Colorado, the most impressive consecutive road wins of any team in the country this season. They are 4-0 against the mountain schools. With UCLA and USC visiting Corvallis this weekend, Oregon State is in position to lock down a top-four NCAA tournament seed. This after being the next-to-last at-large team in our preseason bracket and picked to finish 10th in the conference by the Pac-12 coaches.

However, there was a big jump into the top 10: USC, out of the Power Rankings the past three weeks, is back in at No. 9. In the other major conference races, Virginia Tech (ACC), Ohio State (Big Ten) and Oklahoma (Big 12) all have one-game leads.

Auriemma, who turns 70 in March, is in his 39th season in Storrs, having taken the reins ahead of the 1985-86 campaign and turned the program into a powerhouse with unparalleled dominance spanning decades.
