Ask Bickendan

"Hon, why'd you stop?"
"That map on your back?"
"Yeah?"
"That interstate's in the wrong spot. It's distracting."

Or...

"Honey, this sex is taking way too long. You mind if I just take this shortcut down route 21 to the interstate? We'll get there a lot quicker..."

When did you fall in love with your first map?

Do you ever find yourself in a place
or someone says something
or a scene is described in a book
or you see a postcard or calendar picture
or some such thing
and a piece of music is evoked
so strongly
you hear it?

Yeah, that relationship's on the way out...

I dunno. I had the LA Freeway System memorized early on, and my first map I drew was a bird's eye view of a rock garden, when I was like 2? 3? 4?

It's happened, but I can't cite the situation or the piece it evoked. I will say, however, that a place can and does inspire a piece of music (or art) to be created. The intro of the symphony I'm writing is based off my impressions of the Twin Cities.
