Carolina Panthers

The Panthers signed rookie returner/wide receiver Greg Dortch off the New York Jets' practice squad a day after releasing returner Ray-Ray McCloud. Dortch is small at 5-7 and 175 pounds. The former Wake Forest star signed with the Jets as an undrafted free agent. He has a great story, overcoming a life-threatening injury. On Oct. 28, 2017, he punctured his small intestine in a game against Louisville.

This is Mariner 10. It was the first probe to explore the planet Mercury - which it did WAY back in 1974.

Now you may ask, "Now Charlemagne, what in God's name does THIS have to do with sports?" The answer? Not a Goddamn thing. It's just that this little tidbit of information is still infinitely more useful and worth sharing than whatever the fuck Blackfoot tries doing in this forum.

From No. 27 to No. 1: Panthers on pace to challenge sacks record
The blend of 3-4, 4-3, Tampa 2 and even a tad of Ryan’s 46 has created 27 sacks, including seven in Carolina’s last outing against Tampa Bay and 24 during a four-game winning streak after an 0-2 start. The Panthers already have used 10 personnel groupings compared to six all of last season, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.

GroupingPct. plays

49ers' Kyle Shanahan compares Panthers star Christian McCaffrey to Marshall Faulk
McCaffrey is doing what he can to advance the game like Faulk did. Just last year, the former Stanford standout recorded 107 receptions, the most made by a running back in a single season in NFL history.

In Faulk's first season with the St. Louis Rams back in 1999, he was at the center of Mike Martz's "Greatest Show on Turf." He recorded over 1,000 yards on the ground and over 1,000 yards through the air. In all, he racked up a then-NFL record 2,429 yards from scrimmage, which passed Barry Sanders' record of 2,358.

Quarterback Cam Newton (foot) will travel to San Francisco with the Panthers after spending the week working on the side with trainers. Another step toward his return. Coach Ron RIvera said on Monday that Kyle Allen would make his fifth straight start since Newton re-aggravated his Lisfranc injury in Week 2. Allen is 4-0 this season and 5-0 overall as the starter.

Christian McCaffrey's next stop is 'where the legend began'
McCaffrey will bring that fire back to Silicon Valley on Sunday to face the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers at Levi's Stadium, about 13 miles from where he burst onto the national scene at Stanford in 2015 by smashing the NCAA record for all-purpose yards in a season with 3,853, which was 603 yards more than previous record holder Barry Sanders achieved in 1988
