Duke men's basketball cancels rest of nonconference slate
Duke announced Thursday it would not play any more nonconference basketball games this season "out of an abundance of caution due to the COVID-19 pandemic and to allow the Blue Devils' student-athletes time over the holidays to spend with their families."

NC State men's basketball on pause after positive COVID-19 cases
The school announced the move Wednesday, saying two members of the traveling party have tested positive. That comes after the Wolfpack had to cancel a Bubbleville game against UConn at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut last weekend and postpone Tuesday's trip to Michigan for the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
 
Roger Goodell says NFL won't jump line for COVID-19 vaccine ahead of Super Bowl LV

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Monday that even with COVID-19 vaccines now being distributed to hospitals nationwide, NFL players and personnel will not be jumping the lines for vaccination before Super Bowl LV, which is scheduled for Feb. 7, 2021.He also emphasized that with the event still 55 days away, the league needs to be prepared to "adapt and evolve" with regard to the coronavirus, which has affected 16.5 million people in the United States and claimed more than 300,000 lives in the country. There has been no determination made as to stadium capacity, which has been 25% at Raymond James Stadium since Week 6 this season, the maximum allowed under Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines, which is roughly 16,000 fans. The league is also confident in its ability to host the event despite the state of Florida's high number of COVID-19 cases. The White House Coronavirus Task Report released a report last week stating that Florida was in the "red zone" with more than a 10.1% positivity rate, the 33rd-highest rate in the country. Hillsborough County, which is where Tampa is located, is faring better and is in the "orange zone," with positivity rates between 8.0% and 10%.

Virginia Tech Hokies opt to end nation's longest bowl streak at 27 years

Virginia Tech has opted out of a bowl game, ending the nation's longest bowl streak at 27 straight years. Coach Justin Fuente said Wednesday he met with the team, and the players decided they wanted to bypass any postseason opportunity.Virginia Tech finishes the season 5-6 and joins Boston College, Pitt, Virginia and Georgia Tech in the ACC in opting out of a bowl during the coronavirus pandemic. Virginia Tech was hit particularly hard by coronavirus issues throughout the season. Athletic director Whit Babcock estimated about three-quarters of the team contracted the virus since March, along with eight of 10 full-time assistants.

Virginia men's basketball restarts, adds game against No. 1 Gonzaga
The Cavaliers (3-1) had four games canceled or postponed because of COVID-19, including Saturday's scheduled matchup with No. 7 Villanova at Madison Square Garden. That game would have featured the past two NCAA champions and will not be made up.

Weekend matchups shuffled to North Carolina-Kentucky, Ohio State-UCLA over coronavirus protocols
The No. 22 Tar Heels will face the Wildcats at 2 p.m. ET, and the No. 20 Buckeyes and Bruins will tip off at 4:15 p.m. in Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse. Organizers said the change was to "more closely align COVID-19 testing protocols between the competing programs and their respective conferences." The schools come from the ACC, SEC, Big Ten and Pac-12.

Florida State Seminoles-Wake Forest Demon Deacons canceled due to coronavirus issues
FSU informed the league office Friday morning that a positive test and contact tracing would leave the team without enough offensive linemen to play the game. This is the third game this season Florida State has canceled within 24 hours of kickoff due to concerns over COVID-19.

"I'm not sure we'll play in the playoffs if the parents can't be there," Kelly said. "Why would we play if you can't have families at the game? If you can't have families at bowl games, why would you go to a game where your families can't be part of it? What's the sense of playing a game in an area of the country where nobody can be part of it?"
 
Report: Duke Blue Devils end women's basketball season amid coronavirus concerns
The Blue Devils are the first Power Five school to have started this season and will not finish it because of the virus. The Ivy League opted out of playing winter sports in November before the basketball season started. A few other schools also decided not to play this year.

Oregon-UCLA game postponed due to ref testing protocol
The Pac-12 initially announced that the start of the game set for noon Pacific time between the No. 25 Ducks and the Bruins was being delayed while the conference was awaiting test results for game officials.The Pac-12 announced several hours later that the game was postponed indefinitely.
 
NCAA men's basketball tournament to be played entirely in Indiana
All 68 teams will come to compete for the national championship and play most of the games at multiple venues in Indianapolis. Selection Sunday is still scheduled for March 14, and the Final Four is set to be held April 3 and 5 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
