Dollhouse discussion thread

That was the fifth episode.

Cool, so next week is supposed to be the one they want us to watch. I thought this one was much much improved from the previous 4 that have already aired.

I vote for more shots of Miracle Laurie's succulent tits! They're so big and brown and soft!

ok, I will give the show ONE MORE CHANCE.

HOW BOUT SOME AWESOME SPOILER PICTURES? (the same Alpha-related spoiler that has already been said in the thread, BUT PICTURES!)

So you can see Miracle Laurie's tits?

MIRACLE TITTIES MORE LIKE
(YEAH IT'S WASH LOL)

Okay, they weren't lying when they said it got good in episode 6. That kicked ass. The way it all came together in the end was, DARE I SAY IT, classic Whedon. So many plot points so let's just look at them all...

- The guy using the dollhouse to have an anniversary with his dead wife (in a way) was a good start and the kind of unique scenario only the Dollhouse could provide. I liked that she went back to him at the end. Was cheesey but it worked.

- Some of the news interviews were a bit on the nose but I did laugh at the redneck guy talking about using the dollhouse to experiment with other men.

- Ballard (have to stop calling him Helo) totally kicked ass in the first fight scene. I guess that was the point of the boxing flashbacks, to show what a great fighter he is. The fight scene with Echo was great too, really intense and stuff.

- The rape subplot seemed almost directed at all the "DOLLHOUSE = RAPE!!!" threads on IMDB. I'm glad they addressed that issue (though this was a guy taking advantage of an active in doll state rather than just programming them to have sex with him, which made it a lot worse.)

- I really liked the scenes with Ballard and Millie (hot neighbour). I do think they have chemistry. The ending look like it was going to be the typical "lead character runs in to find lover dead" moment BUT NO great twist with Millie being a sleeper agent. I didn't think they'd go that route after revealing the russian was an agent, but it was totally different here and revealed in a cool way. And she kicked ass. And she's pretty fucking hot. Excellent. Would like to see her upgraded to a regular cast member.

- So who's the mole? I guess either Amy Acker or Topher's assistant, which means it'll end up benig someone totally unexpected like the head of the dollhouse (still don't know her name yet, sorry) or the security guy who tried to kill Echo last week (or his.) Pretty sure it can't be Boyd since he woudln't have the technical know how. It's an good developmen and adds another layer to the whole thing.

SO YEAH, IT DOES GET GOOD IN EPISODE SIX AFTER ALL

I didn't watch it because it was on the same time as BSG. I hope next week's is as good!

I HOPE SO, FOR YOUR SAKE.

Yeah, this episode was the standard that I want from a Joss Whedon show.

It's great that he seems to be addressing a lot of the problems fans have with the concept of a Dollhouse, and considering he wrote the episode before the show started to air, that was good foresight in his part.

Cassie-o, if you can catch a repeat of the episode somehow before next week I would suggest you do because it was really good!

YEAH, CASSIE. AND ANYONE ELSE WHO GAVE UP ON THE SHOW ALREADY (though they probably aren't reading this thread.)

I didn't give up on it yet! I'm kinda bummed I had to miss the first really good episode.

HELO WAS SHIRTLESS A LOT

Last episode was excellent IMO. Been waiting for one that good (although the one I caught on the road was getting there). Finally got cable and DVR (as well as internet... obviously) set up, so I should be good to go from now on.

Hopefully Whedon has a few more 'Good reasons for needing a doll' up his sleeve. We really need a couple more before we can start cutting down on the whole engagement shit and skip right to the juicy bits.

As for the mole, another vote for not black handler dude. He simply hasn't been there long enough IMO. Also this sets up a good crisis for the future. What does he do when he starts to stumble on the mole (and he will, they've done a good job of pumping his detective skills)?

As has been said by everyone - totally awesome ep.
Cassie, if you're on a decent internet connection (can't remember), go here:

Two comments:
1) The mole
I see two possibilities right now. #1 is the Asian assistant - don't really remember her doing anything else so far so it's kinda suspicious. Which makes her the less likely option. Number two is the boss. Don't really think she's a good girl but she's probably following a different agend or something. Third option, of course, there is no mole and they're just fucking with Helo. Don't think it's the doctor - not enough balls, don't think it's the security guy - not clever enough, don't think it's the black guy, for the reasons already mentioned. The general vibe I get from Boyd is very Dixon-from-Alias like. A guy who thinks he's actually doing good. Fascinating character. Overall, I feel reminded of Alias quite regularly - good sign IMHO.

2) The neighbour. I kind see her developing in a kind of Boomer-on-Caprica from the first season of BSG. Doesn't want to be a doll, maybe it's even her real personality. Something weird going on there, definitely because otherwise it's just pointless - having TWO dolls whose only purpose is making Helo's life harder? Yeah, right.

Yeah, my first impression is that she is a different... model. She doesn't fit the playgirl/playboy pinup mold that the other Dolls have had. And have any other dolls had that secret password killer mode activation thing going on?

Not really. Echo was deactivated by phone (IIRC) - which wasn't planned and was probably done by Alpha. So we've seen the distance thing before but everyone acted all surprised back then so there's something different going on here. More like River in Serenity which makes me think we might actually be seeing her real personality and they are just hiding parts of it. No blank slate.

apparently, episode six was the ep that fox gave wheadon creative control. no more lowest common denominator for this guy...
