Download my fucking video

Not 23 minutes. 23 megabytes. Which for someone without broadband is a half-day affair.

Fear not, soon I shall be on company time and saying, DAMN THE MAN I WANT MY SMOOTH CRIMINAL GODDAMMIT!!!

I knew I could count on Eggs and Curious.

and we all know that The Question probably has a 6870283mb line from the future so there is no excuse!

I liked it but I don't know who the young black kid was at the beginning.

I lamely admit to having seen him in concert in 89 - it was quite a show but it's hard to remember objectively in the face of the bizzare last 10 years of his career.

You didn't see him in concert in 89. You would have seen him in 88 on the second leg of the Bad Tour.

Where where you? Kansas?

I probably have footage of the concert you were at.

Yeah must have been 88. Hartford Civic Center. He did three shows and actually I saw two of them. The two best parts were the huge wall of lights which kicked off the show and the dissapearing act where he appeared over the audience on a boom with a huge tattered cape.

The intro to Beat it.

Seriously man, you may think its lame but seeing MJ in concert during the second leg of the Bad tour is kinda awesome.

It is without a doubt (well my opinion which is the right one) the best era. Not 87 not 89. The Bad Tour 88 was just kick ass.

Do you remember Smooth Criminal at all? That is IMPOSSIBLE to get from the Bad tour pro shot. I have SC from Rome and Barcelona 88 but both are amatuer recordings. You do realise that if you had filmed that show it would pay for your retirement?

All you would have to do is sell VCD's of it and you would be minted.

Oh and did he do the lean, do you remember? How old were you?

I saw him at Wembley stadium in '88

And you are so lucky. Most of my free time is spent campaining the release of Wembley 88 on DVD. I have been in correspondence with everyone from his publicist Ramone Bain to his entire PR department to the Sony higher ups.

I have HBH APOM SC and MITM from Wembley 88 but the quality is not good and its amatuer.

Getting Wembley on DVD would basically make my year.

Didn't realize MJ footage was worth so much. Here in the states if you mention his name you are shot (through the genitals) on sight.

Personally I think the best MJ period was 82-83 when Thriller was out but hadn't taken off yet. Growing up with alot of R&B I had that album as soon as it came out. I remember in 88 seeing the video for "Bad" (it was some kind of major MTV event - the whole prologue in the subway etc) and thought WTF is going on here?! Is it a hair band thing? Anyway the reason I mostly saw that concert is because I didn't get to see Thriller.

Did he do the lean? man that's asking me to dig in some deep memory mulch. I was 20 in 1988.

Yes it is, rare footage is worth a lot of money.

Ahh, the States, the place that has replaced MJ with Justin Timberlake and Usher and Made 50 Cent a household name. I don't pay attention to the fickle views of the American public to be honest.

88 was the best era for a few reasons. He hadn't been hit by the full force of Vitiligo at that point and e hadn't had the botched nose job, that occured in late 92. He was faster, more energetic and he released a lot of great songw while perfecting all his previous songs to an art form, Billie Jean ect. He sang every note on the Bad Tour, EVERY note. Something that he even wouldn't be able to boast in his later tours. He was basically just the best dancer on the planet and the Bad Tour reflected that.

105 seperate shows starting in Yokohama September 17th 1987 and ending in Madison Square Gardens in umm, November of 88.

Of course in 83 he performed Billie Jean for the first time which was a ground breaking moment but it wasn't until the Bad Tour when he would boxwalk at the end that the performance became legendary.

Oh and there was no Thriller tour. In 84 he performed with his brothers for the last time on the Victory Tour.

Only reason I asked about the lean is that its a topic of controvesy. Mj invented the technique that would alow dancers to hook their shoes to petruding hooks that would allow them to lean on stage. He invented this technique during the Dangerous era and even has a patent for it but I have this uber-rare picture from on stage at the Bad Tour that discounts that:

Since you can't get SC pro shot from the Bad Tour WHATSOEVER it is not possible to know if he is doing it with his own momentum or the hooks, thats why I asked.

DOes Menty wince at some of th emore outlandish and odd escapades of MJ, or is he wholly enthralled by his personality and pop-lockin'?

Seperate the art from the artist. This is imperative. You know why MJ fans get such a bad rap? Because most of them are complete twats, thats why. Yes, they are and I am the first one to say it. There is only so many pictures of MJ you can see in peoples sigs with animated love hearts surrounding him before you want to kill yourself. Add to that the personality I have. I am not especially sensitive to MJ bashing. I have more than one comedy video of MJ being poked endless fun at. Some of it is great, the South Park episode with Mr Jefferson was the best episode they ever did IMO.

But there are MANY, MANY, MANY fans that cry and scream and create over any critisicm of the man. These people are not me and I refuse to be lumped into the same category as them. Its all about the art man. Do I think MJ is innocent? Yes, I do but even if I despised him and had done as much research as I have done I would be forced to come to the same conclusion. Is he insane? Yes, quite.

This is all irrelevant to me though. Its all about the stage show, I could care less about anything else. I hate all his save the children songs and am highly critical of some of his later performances especially during HIStory going as far as calling them complete bollocks.

That said it makes no difference. MJ is the man, he is so skilled its rediculous. Yeah, its highly publicized how good he is and hes a musical genius and blah blah blah but they are still selling him short. I could go on for a long time explaing why he is the greatest performer of all time and the best fluid mover and dancer ever to be captured on film but I can't be bothered.

People hate him now, he is a joke to people in everyday conversation. Thats fine, it doesn't change what he has achieved. It doesn't change the fact that MTV and all the pop princes and princesses blatantly plagarise him. He is guilty of being out of touch and a bit odd. He has made some regrettable mistakes but that doesn't make him a pedophile (its just stupid) and it doesn't mean that we should crucify the poor man. He is a humanitarian. He has done with his money what few to none do. He is in the guiness book of Records for being the entertainer to donate the most amount of money to charity. Something to the tune of half a billion. What a demon.

Yeah, I'm sure the thousands of children who are not dead becase he walks this earth really care that he has had plastic surgery.

Usher and Timberlake? Give me a freaking break.

Well despite the European disclaimer there, you intuitively guessed the name of four American pop stars. For teh record Justin Timberlake is the only one you'll probably still "intuit the name of" in 10 years. Not including MJ if he can find footing again on European airwaves.

Ugh with defending his choice of astetic enhancements.

The absolute apex of Michael Jackson's career came when he performed Billie Jean on the Motown awards (82?) and gave the world the moonwalk. At that time he was awe inspiring. While he did go on to sell alot of records, I think it was during the late 80's that he began to believe his press and set his sights higher and crazier (tearing his clothes off at the end of that video where he destroys the car - and the unbeleivable high speed reverse his PR people did after the video aired.) The guy who wore leotards over his jumpsuit and grabbed his crotch screaming was a parody of the clean cut young black kid who represented the hope of the 80's shuffling down the illuminate but wasteland sidewalk in Billie Jean.

Personally, I thought Timberlakes freshman album was damn good. Usher on the other hand, is a worthless cunt.

Edit: I dont' hate Michael Jackson. And I don't see anything wrong with being abig fan of his work - but people who viciously attack his character are akin to those who passionately defend it: of the impression that there is something to be won by campaigning.

I still like your montage there Cowboy.
