DREAM THREAD Part Pi.Pi!

It's frustrating that you can have a very cool dream but when you explain it you realize all the plot holes. Fairly standard scam/caper dream last night. Started out military-based but transitioned into high school. I'm not me, I'm some other character. There's about 6 of us and it's this 2 or 3 part plan to steal whatever we're stealing. Some of us are on site at the start while the rest are away. They show up and some of us leave. For whatever reason I'm there the whole time. This seems like the most chance of getting caught but when the plan gets exposed I'm about the only one they don't catch. I visit my collaborators in lockup and I'm being a douche like Deadpool when he gets Johnny Storm killed and saying things that will help with the case against my partners. The inner voice in my head is saying "SHUT UP! They'll rat you out as payback!" And sure enough they decide to catch me. It's changed to a high school now and it's semi lucid in that I'm running away slow as fuck and they're sure to catch me and I'm able to run faster because I objected to the way my subconscious was running things. I run out into the gym during some PE class and if I can make it to one of the emergency exits that opens straight to the outside I know I have a chance of escaping to the woods/park near the school

In the dream I worked in some capacity on the new Frasier show, possibly as an actor / writer. Later on I was reading a trade newspaper and Sylvester McCoy had an advert where he asked for someone involved in the show to get in touch with him so he could appear in it.

I was talking with the producers about having him on, but they didn't feel he was famous enough.
Trivia: Tom Baker was the Bad Guy on an episode of "Remington Steele" right about the time he ended his run as "Dr. Who."

Odd string of dreams this morning. First I dreamed I'd decided to get up, I was taking a dump when the skyscraper outside the bathroom window started moving (I do not have a bathroom window and if I did there would be no skyscraper outside it). At first I thought it was an optical illusion but after watching for a few seconds, it was clearly moving. Or rather, I was moving. It turned out my apartment was actually some kind of large vehicle. I went down to some kind of observation deck where there were a couple guys hanging out. After deciding I was dressed appropriately (I can't remember what I was wearing but I decided it was appropriate) I went over to talk with them. It wasn't clear if we were on some kind of train or a ship. But since we were going over land we decided it couldn't be a ship. Then I explained to them that it must be a dream because there was no rail or track for the...thing...we were on to be going down.

Then I dreamed I was still in bed and one of the neighbor kids came over with a bill I had to pay. I forget the details but at first I thought it must be real because the neighbor kid was in it but then--oh, wait, that's what it was: I realized it was a dream because the doors were locked, so how could the neighbor kid have gotten in my bedroom?

Then I was running through a woods and came to a clearing with a tub/pool/pond full of nude women. I was just about to get naked and join them when a bunch of people in light blue polo shirts started coming in from the other direction and ruined the whole mood for everyone.

I had to go to my old flat, but while I was there it changed to an old office I used to work at, I had to move three pushbikes and some files to another location, even in the dream it didn't make much sense.

Another one where I'm ineffective at self defense. Details of the dream are unimportant but a couple guys were running amok and causing mayhem in a room full of people. I waited outside the door for them to come out and punched the first one in the nose. As hard as I could. Might as well have said "BOOP!" as I did it for how hard I hit im. Then the other guy came out and I pretty much knew what was going to happen but had to try. Same effect.

It's interesting, how dreams work current events into them. And sometimes they'll do them as some deep metaphor--like having your teeth start falling out when you're feeling inadequate--but a surprising amount of time it is just literal--like pet sitting because you're pet sitting.

I don't know if punching and shooting guns rarely works in my dreams because I doubt myself or just because I've never actually punched or shot anyone. (I did have to shoot a raccoon once (long story) and learned that a .22 pistol doesn't have a lot of stopping power. :( )

Odd one last night, I was trying to take a picture of a doll in a realistic scale background but every time I straightened one piece it knocked every other piece out of alignment.

This went on for some time.

Do you remember Nancy from Little House on the Prairie?
And how in real life later on the actress had short hair?
Well she was randomly in my dream last night.
In my dream she was the town grouch where I live and she went away to some sort of "make the bitch nice school" and she came back looking like the actress with short hair.
What a trip.
*Edit*
It was Nellie
Both were played by actresses named Alison

Blarg. Sleep routine is all screwed up. Ironically, Daylight Savings Time has very little to do with it. Been fighting a persistent low level cold that has made me tired. A week ago I had a Thing in another town that kept me up until around 4am and Tuesday I stayed up long enough to watch President Trump's speech--so around 3:30. Actually more like 4 IIRC, because I compulsively have to unwind online a bit before bed. So for some time now, it's been a fight to get out of bed before 9. Last night I got to bed a little after midnight--but then I had to go to the bathroom a little after 5 and couldn't get back to sleep. When I finally did it was frustrating little "still awake" dreams.

First I was in a kitchen, cleaning up. I think it was modeled on my kitchen at home but it was more of a restaurant kitchen in that there were lots of people in it and it was very busy. I was tidying up the sink area and someone had managed to destroy one of my dish towels and the trash can was overflowing with full bags piled around it so I was pissed. Then at some point it transitioned into an office dream--but the office was more like someone's little computer den. I had 2 or 3 computers around me that I was logged onto--but really no work to do. At some point I realized my dream boss would probably call me any time now about the other, remote, job that he always insisted I was also responsible for--and that I never do any work on. I was wondering why I didn't just quit. Then some manager comes by and is interested in how much space I have, relative to my job at the company. It's finally time to leave but as I start tidying up a line forms through my space of people who need to use my computers to punch out. So I can't do any work, I can't clean up the space, I can't even sneakily look at porn on one of the computers. I tried to use one of the computers but a guy (played by a friend from high school) had some sort of science fiction game/movie going on it.

So not a very restful night. And this post just took 5 minutes longer than it should've because I had to go check on The Dog because apparently she was the only thing keeping the mailman from murdering us all. Now my coffee is cold.

I keep trying to make it to church on Sundays. And I keep snoozing past my alarm and needing more than 8 hours of sleep a night. I guess I could go to bed earlier? Anyway, I can't remember the larger thread of this morning, but it was a classroom dream. I was in some class that I hadn't done my homework for but felt able to BS my way through. Instead of textbooks we had these little 8.5x11 newsprint 50 page booklets (with no cover, basically 11x17, folded and saddle-stapled) and I thought "well at least they don't make us buy expensive textbooks. The teacher was kind of a ditz and was likely modeled on a Spanish teacher I had decades ago--a bit of a MILF/cougar. We had to get in line for something and one side of the line was moving faster so I moved over there and she stopped me and moved me back in the line. There were some West Point students and since I'd been in the military she wanted me grouped with them. We all gave each other the eye-roll. Later I'm in a diner/cafe or something, trying to catch up on studies but someone's singing. I look up and sure enough there's some kind of karaoke machine and one of the other students is singing karaoke and I'm annoyed.

Just rotten stupid insomnia dreams last night. Only way I knew I was sleeping was when I'd wake up enough to realize what I'd just been doing couldn't have been happening so I must've been asleep. So mundane that I can't even remember any details though.

In the dream world I have a job
and earlier tonight I listened to some voicemails and I was supposed to return some phone calls
so now I wake up and I'm thinking about that
How I never called some people back
and I'm supposed to be at work and doing this and that
and its not even fucking real but its stressing me out like it is
so I think that I need to fall back asleep so I can go back to work in my fake dream world life
wtf

Gah. I've been having dreams, but somehow I haven't been remembering them lately. I did have one military bureaucracy dream in the past few days, where I had the wrong uniform and getting issued the proper uniform took forever but that's such a common dream theme for me that it hardly bears mentioning.

OK. I had a bunch but only remember the last one. (I was going to start with some background on my sleep patterns of late but it rambled so much that I moved it to the end.):

I was basically watching a TV show. And, like, there was an ad for it and later I realize I'm watching the show there was an ad for. It was a kind of "Stargate: SG-1" show, where a secret military team transfers their consciousnesses back to WWII bodies to fight the Nazis. So there's shots of WWII action, intercut with a big room with a dozen or so guys laying on futuristic couch/cocooon things that scientists are monitoring. Sadly, there wasn't any actual plot or storyline. I think basically my brain cooked up the first little bit and needed explanation of it and so I got the TV show to understand what the first dream snippet had been.

Let me just say I'm a bit concerned about my health/sleep schedule. I just seem to maybe have this low-level stealth cold I just can't shake. I think I've finally licked it and then in pops back up. This has been causing me to sleep in 1 1/2-2 hours later than I want to. Almost made it to church yesterday and now I'm right back to waking up around 9. Got to bed pretty early--although not as early as I planned because, of course, as soon as The Dog heard me getting ready for bed she wanted to go Out and not come back In so I had to settle for a 15 minute nap until she was ready. Woke up at my usual 4:45 to use the bathroom and she wanted to go Out again. Luckily this was quick and she was ready by the time I was done. But then she was antsy later in the morning and by 7:36 I had to get up and let her out again--and then back in 8 minutes later. The alarm I *thought* was set for 7:30 hadn't gone off (it's an analog clock so getting the dial to the right spot takes some fine-tuning) but I decided to hit snooze on my wristwatch a couple times and get up around 8, maybe 8:15. Then The Cat curled up on my feet and I wound up dozing until almost 9.

Actually somewhat interesting dream cycle this morning. Everyone is younger in the dream, of course. I finally hook up with a girl I dated in college. Afterwards she implies that she's willing to try anal but only if I can secure a certain product that has lube and numbing properties--but it's almost impossible to find because everyone is buying it up for anal sex. (By the way, the actual sex...I think it was more like a TV show or a PG movie, where you see a bed and then the cover flips down to see 2 smiling people in it going "well that was fun.)

Anyway, at some point, between the sex and the hunting for lube, I need a nap. And it happens that I'm on the volunteer fire department and there's a fire right in my neighborhood (I'm napping somewhere else--the girl's house? Who knows). I start to get up and head out but then I hear that I'm not needed or it's a false alarm or something and go to sleep (yes, I'm dreaming of sleeping while I'm actually sleeping) but after awhile I realize that I was just so tired that my brain tricked me into going to sleep and I actually needed to go fight the fire. I must have JUST started with the fire department, because I don't actually know where the fire house is, so I can't go get my gear, so I just head over to the fire to report in there. Once I get there, they've got a garage set up were volunteers can be assigned tasks to do to fight the fire. Oh, and the fire is very odd. It looks almost like someone put huge natural gas burners around the neighborhood and turned them on--nothing like an actual organic fire. Anyway, since the person assigning work looks busy I just get in line and wait my turn. But he sees me and has an assignment for me. The assignments are torn off strips of paper with handwritten instructions on them. Mine has a cutout photocopy of my face pasted on it. It says something about what I'm supposed to do and where I'm supposed to go and to make sure I get the chief good contact info, but of course I can't read it or understand it. Luckily about that time I start seeing all these firefighters coming out of rooms as they're changing out of their firefighting gear and getting cleaned up so I follow them back to where they're coming from, but I realize all the firefighters I'm following are girls so I must be heading for the girls locker room, so I turn around to head to where they're all going to instead. That's about where my brain ran out of things to do with that storyline and I woke up.

Oh, and my friend since 5th grade was in it in the neighborhood where the fire was. Must have been in his 30s in the dream, like everyone else.

Recurring movie they dream (I think it is recurring)?

I am trying to get back to my friends in the theater. I thought they were in theater 10, but maybe I was wrong and it's real easy to get locked out of this place so I ask a concierge.
They type my name into a computer and then say, "Follow me" we proceed to have an in-depth meaningful conversation I can't remember now.
We are climbing stairs, but not just any stairs, it's like a kids jungle gym, but super cool.
Until the last part.
I must climb to the top and hoist myself over this plywood ledge that doesn't have a great handhold or foothold. And I am about to climb over and there are people around-staff and they aren't helping me. One is just holding up a piece of small plywood, but like it's a cell phone camera.
I don't ask for help specifically out loud because I fear I am about to fall and land on my back and survive, but be in a great deal of pain.
I make it over the top and I wake up coughing from a dry throat.
Probably a spider crawled into my mouth and I swallowed it.

I think this dream is a result of reading a Gillian-esque style of letter from someone in a work situation that doesn't feel heard.

Another fun night of dreams that I couldn't get to sleep followed by one that was fairly involved but also a variation on a pretty common recent theme:

As far as the insomnia dreams, I specifically remember detailing my bathroom. It's hard to forget cleaning the toilet with a toothbrush. Sad that I didn't actually detail my bathroom because it's looking increasingly grotty.

The other dream was at a Boy Scout camp (but somehow everyone in it was adults of both sexes) that needed to be evacutated because of weather or something so we all got put up in a big house, but by the time I got in they said there wasn't anywhere to sleep. As I'm wandering around I stop to talk to this guy who, it turns out is just trying to get to sleep but people keep bothering him. After I leave him someone else stops to bother him and when he's finally left alone he can't get to sleep (because he can't stop thinking that just about the time he starts to fall asleep someone will bother him?). Then I get to the master bedroom, which is set up more like a hotel room, with 2 big beds. My friend since 5th grade and his wife are in one and the other is empty--and there's no one sleeping on the carpeted floor anywhere--so I ask if I can sleep in there. About this time an older couple comes in and, as I surmise, they're our hosts who are putting us up for the night. IRL I'm not particularly good at small talk but in this dream I'm knocking it out of the park, thanking them for having us, apologizing for the inconvenience and the mess, etc. They say they're prepared for it and just do what they can to help Scouting. Then the wife asks if I know about Article 10. She says she asks everyone this and so far no one has known. I mention that I haven't been involved in Scouting since the 80s and she says it's something that was around then so I say how active my Dad was and if he hadn't died I could've asked him. We make some more small talk and the dream winds down.

Some of my tiredness and inability to sleep may have something to do with a 65# dog that snores and has taken to hogging the bed. On top of that, the one night I didn't actually wake up around 4am, she woke me up because she wanted to be let out for 10 minutes or so. That and the 13# cat that likes to lay on my shins while I try to sleep.
