I remember when there was no warning/ban system as such at all...

If people got a little wild on each other, another member was usually in there to try to calm things down and lend some perspective. The most the mods had to do was wag their fingers once in awhile.

The current guidelines are the result of a few trolls making the staff paranoid and so they crack down on everyone in an effort to be consistent.

Well you know what?

Consistency isn't necessary if you use your damned head.

Like it or not there is a difference between a long time member and a newly hatched troll that wants to stir the shit.
