Bonz, that was a great post. I will consider it carefully.
I just wish EI would do the same
Perhaps they will. One never knows.
Oh, and Bonz: Why should he email them? They were the ones that fucked up. They are the ones that made it so overly complicated to register/email/deal with problems that you have to do everything in triplicate, with one foot in a ring of fire with your little pinky toe pointed up, in order to get anything done. Its outrageous.
Because sometimes doing something like meeting someone halfway, even if you know you were right and they were wrong, goes a long way towards easing tensions and builds good will and more often than not, gets things done.
One can stay behind one's wall of pride and righteous anger/irritation, or one can walk out from behind it and take a chance. I'd rather swallow my pride if I know that "giving" sometimes will work in my favor or get results.
I've taken lots of chances when it comes to TrekBBS. Some have worked great, some have blown up in my face. I went out of my way to meet many trolls halfway when I had people telling me I was fucking nuts and that I had the right to keep troublemakers out. And you know, meeting them halfway worked, for the most part.
If you don't do the unexpected or try something different, even if you have to swallow your own pride or eat crow, then more often or not, you stagnate.
If he wants to get in, truly wants to post there, he'll meet them halfway. If he does and he is slapped down for it. then everyone including regular Ex Isle posters (and I'm sure some lurk here if not post outright) will see what happened and that he made the attempt. Regular posters can and do influence policy at a site if there are sufficient numbers of them trying to do so. And regular posters DON'T like if they see "their" site acting improperly. They act as a check and a balance on a BBS. That's why I always laugh when people say "I" can do what I want on TrekBBS. Not true at all. I have my own checks and balances.
This is all assuming that he truly wants back in or is just making sport. I'm assuming by what I've read that he does want back in and it's not a game, but I don't know HF well enough to know if there are other motives. On the surface, it looks like he just wants back into a place where there are people about whom he cares.
Pride is a cold bedfellow. It's a damned nuisance at times and gets in the way of progress and other positive things. What's the use of being "right" about something if no one cares and it thwarts you in the end?
I guess I'm just too practical.
