HeroicFool Indefinitely Suspended...

but seriously, before this important point gets lost in the fray, let me reiterate what HF has said in his previous post regarding why he could not use the password recovery feature at EI:

HeroicFool said:
I tried several times to log in HF, with various passwords I have used I failed. A couple days later I then registered Duncan using a hotmail account that was also my name with a middle initial stuck in there. My OLD hotmail account which is now defunct because hotmail kills accounts that are inactive was my name without the middle initial. I wasn't trying to hide a damned thing. It wasn't the same hotmail account as some have claimed, but it was close. So close that it could not be mistaken.

To use the EI password recovery feature, one must remember the password to the email account which was used to register the EI account. HF said he had not used that email in so long that hotmail disabled it, as we all know hotmail does this all the time. It used to only take 3 months of inactivity to lose your email access. It happened to me several times. I don't know how long they give you now but it can't be more than six months.

Man the shit is really flying over at EI...

I so wish I could respond to the idiocy individually.

Perhaps tonight when I'm done working and have the time.

Chatty... The password recovery feature is utterly useless without having control of the email registered to the account. Something I know very well since I have a long history with Message boards and have run a few as well. So yes, I did not even attempt it. Sue me.

As for seeking help from the admins... nah...

I don't care to go to others to solve my problems. It's the old issues with authority rearing it's ugly head again I suppose. That's also why I won't e-mail the admins now. I think I'm too old and too prideful to kiss anyone's ring for what is my due. Especially when I don't respect the people whose rings I'd be kissing.

I thought I had friends on the EI staff. LoP and Rae at the very least I consider friends...

Yet all the time this dragnet was going on I received not a PM or an e-mail asking me what was up. Why should I go crawling to the admins now to beg for entrance to a place that values me so little?

If you believe that I registered a dual to troll EI, then the most I am guilty of is registering a pathetically transparent dual that never saw the light of day, never posted and never did any harm to EI.

If you believe what i have to say then all I am guilty of is not following instructions.

LOL, so what?

You people have a stick so far up your ass that it skewers your brain when you sit.

As we used to say in basic...

Attitude check!!!

Fuck it!!!

Or in other words... don't sweat the small shit.

That is just entirely too simple and WAY too logical.

I'll save the EI staff the trouble and post the answer. "Please just read the damn rules. A rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule is a rule IS A RULE GODDAMN IT!!"

You'd think we'd know this by now. You'd think we'd just all beat the drum of mediocrity and sheepishness and go along to get along. *slaps Self in the head for being too stupid to follow the rules*

Why oh why are we so logical? Why oh why can't we just follow the rules?

The answers to this and other important BBS news in tonight's broadcast.

Stay tuned!

;)

LOL, they are grasping for straws over there.

Gode's cooked up this "well, how do we know its really HF over there - it could be two different posters" excuse. And everybody is patting him on the back for it.

Somebody needs to point out that forcing people to katow to moderators by E-mailing them every time you want to fart is a serious sign of disrespect. Its been explained. Given HF's history with the admins, I wouldn't want to e-mail them either. Not for something as simple as this, anyway.

Yeah, that's a good reason to just suspend him. It would be totally irresponsible to think that the HF on TK was the same HF on EI. What idiots we all are for thinking HF was back among us. We should thank the EI mods for their insight in such matters. I mean how can we know it is him?

Oh wait, I know how.

A TK admin could have PM'ed him as soon as she saw his account active and oh, I don't know, ask him? And, this same TK admin could have been, oh I don't know, asked by EI Admins "Hey is that really HF?". [sarcasm]If that was ever really in question. [/sarcasm]

From what I can see, those that interacted with HF on TK and EI had no doubt who they were taking to, and it's not like HF doesn't have a distinctive personality.

So yeah this excuse is basically a red herring.

From my way of thinking, this is the heart of the problem as I see it. What has been forgotten is what is truly important: the value of the individual as opposed to the value of hidebound, inflexible rules. There is no case-by-case review because the human factor is not taken into account. The Great Book of Rules vastly outweigh the importance of the individual member.

VKD's suggested alternative method of handling a situation such as HF found himself, will never be considered. Certainly, it will be discounted because VKD is considered a troublemaker, and because he is a suspect member of "the board that shall not be named". More importantly, it will be discounted because The Great Book of Rules is more important than the living, breathing member who comes equiped with pesky human error.

So many jumped into that discussion with their "shoulda, coulda, woulda" arguments about what HF's true motivations were, that one wonders if they have psychic abilities combined with math proficiency.

But the rules must be adhered to no matter the cost, and no matter what it does to the board and the members. Blindly following rules at the expense of a member has brought out the ugly side of human nature. Kindness and understanding are only reserved for the members of their recongized class. Fewer and fewer members speak out in direct correlation to the numbers of members who high five one another in smug acknowledgement of their sameness. All the while, members slip quietly away never to return to such an unwelcoming environment.

But the rules, as contained within The Great Rule Book, have been upheld, and surely that goal is more important than retaining the member, or acting with a forgiving heart.

Oh, I can't tell you how well that was put. I wish someone would listen, but alas, the time has long since past when anyone listened.

Thank you. I'd like to think I do. But like others I don't always use it to the best of my ability.

Can't really say much about the EI politics. It's not my board and mostly I'm just happy to mod my beloved fanfic forum and just have fun. Because it is supposed to be fun and it is fun. For me, anyway.

Well, no one runs a better fan fiction forum and no one ever has--And that's the truth. ;)

I hope Rhea never runs afoul of the rules. She's bascially saying that what HF did was akin to defeating the security features of the board, and deserved what he got.

With the phone book of rules that EI has, that's a very poor way to deal with rule breakage.

^ Well, no. First time someone that they like breaks a rule (if on purpose, or accidently) and it comes down to perma them, they will back down and say "well, no harm, no foul, just don't do it again" and let it pass. We've seen them do that before, and I have no doubt that it will happen again.

They are just sticking to the rules because they don't like HF. Its that simple. Now that they've been called on it, they got to back down.

LOL---Damn you, you could spoil a 'wet dream' with all your perfection. ;)

I suppose things wil go on as usual. The sheep will hug, the 25% who question authority will be dogged until they leave, and the Staff will pat themselves on the back for a job well done.

All is right in the EI world.

Because they meant to put him in the deep freeze and throw away the key. That's why. And they still intend to do it.

Somebody should point that out over there. It shows intent. They didn't think people to stick up for HF becuse of his background.

They never intended to let him back, not for an instant. Even with proof of no ill intent on his part.

Ya know, despite Oprheus talking about "we don't want to talk about security measures" and that, something just occurred to me.

1. Most important, Orpheus should quit acting like he's guarding a military computer system or something. Christ boy, you're just a message board, not NORAD.

2. Despite what he said, every time something like this happens, he accidentally reveals something about how the staff works. Just do some reading. You'll see.

Ya know, someone with some duals and some time on their hands could cause some paranoia just by reading pages. Just something to think about.

A weapon that is known can be neutralized.

I no longer post at Ex Isle simply because I didn't want to login one day and find myself banned/suspended for some silly ass reason.

Heroic Fool, you need the patience of Job to post at Ex Isle, so consider this a blessing and not a punishment.

Posting at Ex Isle is the punishment. Who needs the hassle? I didn't.

Why thank you.

In any case, when the permabans were first voted in my fiance and I were going WTF? Posting porn and trying to hack and harm the board is one thing. That should be a perma offense and we had no issue with that.

But one of the founding notions of EI was to not be another SS. In other words no permas. But they were voted in. Fine.

And the fact that we have security measures worthy of a finanical site or military site makes us both laugh. WTF? We're a sci fi message board. There is no sensitive state secrets or financial info that needs to be jealously guarded.

I also admit I find it highly annoying that when I switch posting from my home computer to my fiance's I have to log in again. None of my other sites do that. Unless I accidentally clean out the cookies when I'm claeaning out the junk ff.net dumps in the cookie manager I'm always logged in. And Netscape has that handy password manager thing so it's not really to hard to log in again.

Technically, it's not a big deal to log into EI again but I just find it annoying. Maybe I should up the wedding so that I can soon be in the same house and put a stop to that shit.
