Cowboys' Dak Prescott: 'No excuses' for costly INTs vs. Niners

For the third time in his career, Dak Prescott had the Dallas Cowboys in the divisional round of the playoffs, and for the third time, his season ended there. This time, it was in a 19-12 loss on Sunday to the San Francisco 49ers, the same team that eliminated the Cowboys in the wild-card round last season. The Cowboys are now 27 seasons removed from their last championship, in Super Bowl XXX. While they won a road playoff game for the first time since 1992 with their 31-14 decision over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the wild-card round, the Cowboys envisioned a trip to Philadelphia next weekend to take on the Eagles in the conference title game. Prescott tied for the NFL lead in interceptions in 2022 with 15, despite missing five games because of a fractured right thumb. Against the Buccaneers, he had four touchdown passes and ran for another. Against the Niners, he became the first Cowboys quarterback to have multiple passes intercepted in a playoff game since Troy Aikman in 1998.

Chargers hiring Kellen Moore as their new OC

The Los Angeles Chargers have agreed to terms with Kellen Moore to be their new offensive coordinator, the team announced Monday. The move comes less than 24 hours after the Dallas Cowboys released a statement that said Moore and the team had reached a "mutual decision to part ways" following an end-of-season review process. Moore, 33, will take over an offense led by quarterback Justin Herbert, who last season passed Andrew Luck to tally the most passing yards through a player's first three NFL seasons. Moore also inherits receivers Keenan Allen and Mike Williams and running back Austin Ekeler, who last season led the NFL with 18 touchdowns.

Moore goes from coaching Dak Prescott, who led the league in interception rate (3.8%) this season, to Herbert, who had the seventh-lowest interception rate (1.4%) in the NFL, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. Moore spent four seasons as coordinator for the Cowboys, with his offense ranking in the top four in points per game (27.7), yards per game (391) and third-down conversion percentage (44%).

Jerry Jones: Mike McCarthy to call Cowboys' plays in 2023

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones confirmed Wednesday that Mike McCarthy will be the franchise's first head coach to call plays since Jason Garrett in 2012, and that McCarthy will run a version of the West Coast offense he used from 2006 to 2018 with the Green Bay Packers. It will be the first scheme change that quarterback Dak Prescott has had in his career with the Cowboys. McCarthy still has to fill the quarterbacks and running backs coach openings on offense and has a few openings on defense as well.

Cowboys name Brian Schottenheimer as offensive coordinator

The Dallas Cowboys have named Brian Schottenheimer as the team's new offensive coordinator. The Cowboys agreed to part ways with previous offensive coordinator Kellen Moore last week and owner and general manager Jerry Jones has said coach Mike McCarthy will be calling the plays next season. Schottenheimer, 49, spent last season as a consultant with the Cowboys, so he is familiar with the personnel. He was the Jacksonville Jaguar' passing game coordinator under Urban Meyer in 2021 and previously worked for the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts and New York Jets, among other stops. Brian is the son of longtime NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer.

Mick Shots: Time For HOF To Do Woodson Right

Been saying this and saying this and saying this now for 15 years since he first became eligible in 2008. Darren Woodson belongs in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Until I'm blue in the face. Gosh, here's hoping I don't have to turn a deeper shade of blue. For "Woody" is so close, the Cowboys safety (1992-2003) among this year's final 15 candidates for the first time. The voting took place today in Phoenix, Ariz., with the announcement of the next five modern-day era players reaching the Hall of Fame to be announced Thursday during the 12th annual NFL Honors show, which is being televised live at 8 p.m. from Symphony Hall in Phoenix on NBC. And get this, over his 12-year career, Woody also played special teams, former Cowboys special teams coach, the late Joe Avezzano, couldn't bring himself to take him off punt and kickoff coverage. And guess what? He's the team's second all-time leader with 134 special teams tackles to only Bill Bates, who made a nice living playing special teams over his entire 15-year career.

Predicting 2023 NFL offseason moves: How to improve all 16 NFC teams

Dallas Cowboys. Resolve the running back situation.

After years of having a clearly defined one-two punch, the Cowboys can go in several different directions at running back. Ezekiel Elliott's status is in question after he has battled injuries the past two seasons, while Tony Pollard, an unrestricted free agent, fractured his left fibula in Dallas' playoff loss to San Francisco. Both players could be back in 2023, or the team could start over.

With 19 free agents, who should the Cowboys pay this offseason?

Now the fun starts for the Dallas Cowboys. They have 19 players set to become unrestricted free agents, including key contributors on both sides of the ball in Tony Pollard, Dalton Schultz, Donovan Wilson and Leighton Vander Esvh. Fitting all those players together will be difficult and require some maneuvering because the team is about $7 million over the $225 million salary cap. The Cowboys’ desire is always to keep their own free agents rather than spending big on the market. Here’s a look at what they should do to keep a roster that finished 12-5 strong and make the playoffs for the third straight year.

Cowboys use franchise tag on RB Tony Pollard

The Dallas Cowboys have placed their franchise tag on running back Tony Pollard, the team announced Monday. The 2023 franchise tender for a running back is worth $10.09 million, which immediately counts against the Cowboys' salary cap whether he signs the tender immediately or not. The deadline for teams to use the franchise tag is Tuesday at 4 p.m. ET. A fourth-round draft pick in 2019, Pollard had a breakout season in 2022 and earned a Pro Bowl spot after eclipsing 1,000 yards (1,007) for the first time in his career, although surgery to repair a high ankle sprain suffered in the playoffs against the San Francisco 49ers kept him out of the Pro Bowl Games festivities.
