Jerry Jones' reaction to a team, like Denver having to play a practice-squad receiver at quarterback? Too bad. “We've been schooled, these teams have been schooled that you have really better pay attention to your protocols. You better manage, don't just give it lip service, roll your eyes back, say, ‘That happened to them. It doesn't happen to me,'” he said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas

Playing Baltimore next Tuesday, the Cowboys will watch today's game between the Steelers and Ravens by position groups at The Star today after going through a lighter-than-normal Wednesday practice. Mike McCarthy believes there will be a benefit from watching the opponent live, getting a feel for scheme and personnel. On Thursday, the Cowboys will virtually take part in a memorial service for strength and conditioning coordinator Markus Paul, who passed away last week.

The Cowboys will face a quick turnaround between the Baltimore and Cincinnati road games. They likely will return from Baltimore at 3 a.m. Dec. 9 and be back on a plane at 2 p.m. CT on Dec. 12 to go to Cincinnati. “It's 2020,” center Joe Looney said. “I mean what is normal right now in 2020? I think we all are rolling with the punches, just making sure we go out there and put the best ball out there trying to win the game. At the end of the day that's what it boils down to.”

Jerry Jones has nothing but fond memories of Dez Bryant, who will play against the Cowboys next week for the Ravens. “Dez is an eternal light of positiveness for our game,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan in Dallas. I couldn't be happier to see him on the field. Now I'll be worried because I know how that rascal can go up and get a ball.” Bryant is the Cowboys' all-time leader in touchdown catches and was released by the club after the 2017 season.

Watermelons, tragedy, Tuesday game: Inside Dallas Cowboys' past 18 days

The past 18 days have been unlike any the Dallas Cowboys have experienced. The path to Tuesday's game at the Baltimore Ravens (8:05 p.m. ET, Fox) took dramatic turns going back to Nov. 21. The team was euphoric after their most complete win of the season at the Minnesota Vikings on Nov. 22. The mood turned to devastation with the death of Cowboys strength and conditioning coordinator Markus Paul three days later. The Cowboys always knew this part of their schedule would be the trickiest because they were supposed to play three games in 12 days. With a 3-7 record and a favorable schedule, the Cowboys took a "why not us?" look at winning the NFC East with how poorly the New York Giants, Washington Football Team and Philadelphia Eagles had been playing. A win on Thanksgiving against Washington would give the Cowboys the division lead, at least temporarily.

Cowboys inactives: QB Ben DiNucci, WR Malik Turner, CB Anthony Brown, S Donovan Wilson, DE Bradlee Anae, OT Cameron Erving, DE Ron'Dell Carter. Rookie Reggie Robinson, their fourth-round pick, is active for the first time this season. Most likely will see a special teams' role even with Wilson out because of a groin injury.

Andy Dalton has an 8-8 record against Baltimore in his career. He has thrown for 4,021 yards with 21 touchdown passes and 18 interceptions. He knows the Ravens D better than anybody on the Cowboys. “I think the biggest thing is you have to keep having positive plays,” he said. “They're really good on third down. They got a good rush, good scheme with all the pressures that they bring, so you have to stay ahead of the chains.”

New York Giants, Washington Football Team, with first-year coaching staffs, showed some fight with road wins this week to improve to 5-7. Cowboys have a chance to do so tonight vs. Baltimore and remain a game back in the NFC East. “I think it's an encouraging sign to see these teams with new coaches, new staffs, new, if you will, directions here and seeing them play better football as we've seen the last few days,” owner and GM Jerry Jones said on 105.3 The Fan.

Baltimore Ravens WR Dez Bryant says he's tested positive just before kickoff

Ravens wide receiver Dez Bryant surprisingly announced that he has tested positive for COVID-19 just 30 minutes before his much-anticipated reunion with theDallas Cowboys on Tuesday night. According to the NFL, Bryant's PCR test Tuesday morning was inconclusive, as was the re-run of the test. The lab is in Maryland, so that's why the results came back on Tuesday evening. The subsequent point-of-contact PCR test at the stadium was positive and Bryant was removed, as per NFL protocol. The NFL and NFLPA are not worried about close contacts with Bryant, sources told ESPN, because the Ravens have been operating under exceedingly strict protocols for the past two weeks, effectively eliminating the possibility of close contacts. Bryant, 32, was set to play the Cowboys for the first time since Dallas cut him two years ago. Days before the game, Bryant said it was going to be "an exciting moment" to play the team that he spent eight seasons with and caught a franchise-record 73 touchdowns passes.

Bryant said he would not return this season."Yea I'm going to go ahead and call it a quit for the rest of the season," Bryant posted on Twitter. "... I can't deal with this."

NFL Power Rankings Week 14: 1-32 poll, plus the players and coaches with the most at stake
Finally, the NFL Power Rankings don't have to deal with any more byes, as every team has had its scheduled bye week. That makes this the perfect time to figure out which NFL players and coaches have the most at stake during the season's final month.

No.29: Dallas (3-9)

Top-5
No.1: Kansas City (11-1)
No.2: Pittsburgh (11-1)

Wild NFC East could produce a sub-.500 champ or two playoff teams

The NFC East race will be decided by the teams everyone predicted would be there in the end: the New York Giants and the Washington Redskins Football Team. And by everyone, we mean no one. But during the 2020 NFL season, the unpredictable keeps happening, so the division will be won by one of these two franchises, which combined for seven wins last season. That number also represents their current combined winning streak, which is why they have muscled past the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys, the preseason favorites. Technically, those teams remain alive. Good luck making a case for them to win, however. They both have three wins and are on a combined six-game losing streak. Dallas lost quarterback Dak Prescott; Philadelphia just benched Carson Wentz.

Who should be the favorite and why: How can it be anybody but the Giants? They swept Washington, have the edge on Philadelphia and close the season with Dallas. And they have won four in a row. Before they get to the Cowboys, they have to play Arizona (6-6), Cleveland (9-3) and Baltimore (7-5), but winning in Week 13 in Seattle should have given them a boost of confidence.

Biggest roadblock for the Cowboys: Themselves. Oh, am I supposed to name an opponent? Well, pick any of the four remaining -- even listless Cincinnati and lifeless Philadelphia. But the Cowboys are their own worst enemy. They have turned the ball over in all but two games and are minus-92 in points-off-turnovers margin. They don't stop the run (see Baltimore, 294 yards). They don't gain a schematic or tactical edge from coaching. In the past, they have been talented enough to overcome such issues. Not this season.

Andy Dalton was good enough in his return to Cincinnati, tossing two touchdown passes, going 16 for 23 for 185 yards as the Cowboys (4-9) stayed in contention in the weak NFC East. The Bengals (2-10-1), whose offense has struggled mightily since quarterback Joe Burrow was lost to a knee injury on Nov. 22, got in a hole early and couldn't dig themselves out.

Week-15: Sun, Dec 20
San Francisco (5-8) at Dallas (4-9)

Mike McCarthy reminds how Cowboys' finish in 2020 can affect 2021, too
Whether the Cowboys pull off an improbable finish to win the NFC East and host a playoff game, coach Mike McCarthy still understands the value of a team winning its games at the end of a season.

Dallas Cowboys VP Stephen Jones says Mike McCarthy will return as coach in 2021
McCarthy signed a five-year deal as the Cowboys' ninth head coach in January. In his past 41 games, however, he has a 15-25-1 record, including his final 28 games with the Green Bay Packers. In nine of his 13 seasons, the Packers made the playoffs, with one Super Bowl victory and four NFC Championship Game appearances.
