Mad Men season 5

So Pete's back to being a full-fledged asshole after his smackdown. HOORAY FOR ZOIDBERG!

Interesting how he took on more life insurance in the course of his philandering. Also Roger gave him some new skis. Also he's a bad driver. Also he's about to have more than one person wanting him dead. Also there's a faulty elevator in the building...naw, Matt Weiner wouldn't dare...

I love Peggy. I honestly think she could run faster than a locomotive, and bend steel in her bare hands. I love how she smokes weed and shacks up, and still dresses like a parochial school girl. I love how she can yell at Don to shut up, and he knows she's right, especially when someone like Megan comes along and nearly makes her feel bad about loving what she does. But I also love Joan for her (misguided) little reminder to Peggy about the kind of woman Don marries. I love both of them. But Peggy should get the Emmy.

I love how Roger makes the show better even when he's just walking into other people's stories and dropping a couple of one-liners into them.

Don can't handle The Beatles.

RORY GILMORE.

BAREFOOT IN THE KITCHEN.

JUST TASTE IT ALREADY.

ELEVATOR SHAFT.

No yeah I agree with everything you said, Eggs.

I really do think Peggy is one of the best characters on the show and it's really interesting to watch her take the steps into a more modern and less repressed culture, compared to Don who didn't get Tomorrow Never Knows even though it's a really good song what the hell Don?

Also I can believe everything else on this show but I just don't believe someone marrying Alison Brie and then cheating on them!

I'm kind of annoyed that Lane hasn't been in the last three episodes at all. I know not every character is in every episode, but we haven't seen him at all since the fight with Pete and kissing Joan and it seems excessive. Joan hasn't done much lately either, whereas Megan gets a story every episode (not that I don't like Megan.) Also didn't really like the Pete scenes and Alexis Bledel's melodramtic acting.

But still good!

First laugh out loud line of the night goes to Peggy: "Am I the only one who can drink and work at the same time around here?"

Strange episode, full of weird emotions. Need to watch it again.

Betty's back (and still curvy), and she's bitchier than ever. The name Anna is brought up again, possibly for the last time.

Ginsberg no likee Don. Don don't give a shit.

Roger's still a bastard, but this time people actually get to bitch at him aboot it.

PREVIEWS SHOW LANE WILL BE BACK NEXT WEEK WACKY!

Roger: Jane and I are getting a divorce!
Cooper: (looks at his watch) Already?

Roger: How Jewish are they? Fiddler on the Roof: are they cast, or audience?

I'm sure Megan's breasts would make anyone go into a jealous rage.

It was a good episode! Everyone was being petty and jealous but also breasts.

Maybe that's just how her character is. Like how Betty just happens to be unable to show emotions and is played by January Jones, an actress unable to show emotions (which is genius casting.)

I don't think Rory sucks -- the character isn't that deep, she's mostly just a platform for Pete to take another dive into the abyss.

OMG OMG OMG OMG DON & JOAN WERE SO AMAZING TOGETHER OMG OMG

The rest of the episode was like Bizarro-World Mad Men, but OMG!

Right in the middle of this strangeness was a perfect one-act play starring Don and Joan. The acting was perfection, the writing was wry and witty...it was like watching them keep a feather in the air during the bar scene.

And then they both went back to their shitty lives, lol.

I may just edit their stuff out and watch it as its own standalone episode.

THE NEGRON COMPLEX.

Harry actually did something nice. I guess it was good to see Paul again? He was better with the beard.

Don/Megan alternate from being happy one episode to fighting the next. But that's what mariage is like, EH GUYS? (I have no clue.)

Truly. A few weeks ago everyone was talking like Pete was going to die this season, but now I can see Lane jumping out the window when he thinks the time is right.

Technically, Star Trek had only been on the air for a few months at the time of this episode, so I'm surprised they used it as a pop-culture point of reference. Although they did mention that Bewitched was kicking its ass in the ratings, LOL.

Weren't there only like three channels back then? I have to think that if a show was on the air, everyone was aware of it.
