Merlin series 4

Decent episode by Merlin standards. It definitely had some random ropey moments "I don't know how I would've coped without you, UNCLE!", but it was spooky and not as much about Morgana as it first seemed. I liked that the bad guys couldn't easily be offed with swords or falling tree branches.

The only thing that was a odd was that it felt like a Halloween episode that got brought forward.

BBC, you can push Gwen's breasts up to her ears, it will won't make her more attractive.

Especially compared to Katie McGrath.

It was good. Felt a bit slow but probably because it was on after the most frantic Doctor Who ever. And because they were stretching for a two-parter. Not enough Uther. Don't like Morgana's new look. Did like her dream sequence. Another needless one year jump where Merlin and Arthur's relationship hasn't changed. But they did have all the knight still around so that was cool because I thought they'd just say "oh they're all away doing knight stuff." Asshole Dragon next week!

YEAH, so it was a pretty good second part. I thought it might be Lancelot to sacrifice himself and really he's obviously not dead and will come back in a few weeks to kiss Gwen for whatever reason men want to kiss Gwen.

I like the dragon he's cool.

The bit with the moles in the tunnels has been done before so it felt like padding out the episode.

Morgana good breasts.

It's early days but this seems like an improvement over previous seasons. Gwen's plea to Evil Uncle was actually well written, the bit where he considered strangling her was actually kind of subtle, the scenes with Merlin and Lancelot were vaguely bromantic but not cringeworthy and Lancelot's sacrifice at the end didn't just look like a cheap way to get rid of an expensive guest actor.

Merlin's words with the dragon were a bit odd. Of course, two extra years have passed off screen for them, so I suppose Merlin might consider him an "old friend", but didn't the Dragon try to kill everyone in Camelot once? That's kind of a big deal even if he did subsequently save you.

There was a quick line that nicely explained why Evil Uncle is evil and why it wasn't incestuous of him to nearly snog Morgana. He's doing it all for Uther's dead wife. Why doesn't he just kill him? He's only sitting at a window being unkempt.

I kind of liked the continuityness of them using the moles and the mini dragons again, even if it was probably a cost cutting measure.

And was the island of sorrows or whatever it was called the same island Michelle Ryan went to at the end of the first series? I suppose that's continuity too.

I guess Merlin's matured a bit and he recognises that the dragon used to saved his life every week (now it's just every four weeks.) He did kill loads of people but it was kind of Uther's fault and dragons have different morality to humans or something.

I wonder if Uther is actually going to die next week, since Anthony Head's doing a show in America?

Woah. Probably the best mid-season episode of the show. ACTUAL development, long lasting implications! Lots of good acting from Colin Morgan as usual and I think they got it just right with his old man character occasionally almost but not quite saying too much to Arthur. Guess we won't see him again now.

I'm not sure we were told exactly why the dagger throwing guy actually wanted to kill Arthur or Uther, unless he was working for Morgana.

Now Merlin has an even better reason than ever to kill Morgana next time they meet. If it wasn't for her he could've come out the closet! BITCH!

Merlin Cliché Watch: After all the strangers who have come into the King's court to kill Uther, Arthur happily lets some guy he's never met before throw knives at him. Right.

Merlin Shipper Watch: The shots of Merlin sitting outside the hall and Arthur emerging from a golden light were made for a gay slash video.

"You're not wearing any trousers!"

"Why would I want to WATCH?"

Next week's trailer: Gaius BALTAR?!

The dagger throwing guy was sent by Odin, who wanted revenge for Arthur killing his son. The names were familiar but I can't remember the details.

Yes, very good episode. Sure it had really goofy comedy (the peeing stuff and Merlin literally riding Arthur like a horse), but at least they didn't make any jokes after Uther died. His death was executed very well. I'll miss Anthony Head BUT AS I SAID I already knew he had a show in america so it wasn't a total shock when he died.

I liked that Morgana showed a little depth by not being happy when Uther died. Also her breasts.

Oh, so that WAS Baltar in the next time trailer? Cool.

Yes! Finally! An episode where things happened! And it was good! Like they sort of misled you into thinking it was a "Uther gets hurt but then Athur DOES A QUEST and he's okay" episode but it all went balls up and he died! Morgana's breasts!

When Merlin joined in with the "LONG LIVE THE KING" at the end, it should have panned down to show he had an erection.

When Gwen joined in with the "LONG LIVE THE KING" at the end, it should have panned down to show she had an erection.

Okay, so naturally there were some issues with this ep (mostly the treatment of Merlin by everyone, though I admit it was kind of necessary so thingy could call Merlin's life pathetic) but it was still really good. I barely feel the need to tack "by Merlin standards" onto the end of that.

Anyway, "Hello, Gaius!" was a nifty little line. James Callis was solid as usual. It's a shame his character didn't get that much development, but maybe he'll return. We know he wanted the egg so he could make money, but we didn't learn much about how he knew Gaius or what might have made him turn bad (presumably he was good at some point).

The Druids were pretty cool in this ep. It was creepy when they just stood silently as Thingy ran past them. Then he got to the ravine... when the path seemed impossible it was the right way.

I don't think a single female had a line in this episode.

The pants dropping scene was going TOO FAR.

Wow. The dragon actually hatched. I kept wondering how they'd get rid of it, maybe by giving it to the Druids or leaving it under Merlin's bed, but if John Hurt has it then maybe we'll actually see it again.

Good episode!

It was weird how they barely mentioned Uther or the fact that Arthur was just crowned. And the total lack of Gwen (not that I minded) and Morgana (I minded!)

I wish Baltar had just used his normal voice instead of trying to sound EVIL. He wasn't fleshed out much but I agree that he'll probably return maybe.

Merlin literally made the king's pants fall down in front of everyone then wrestled with him. Literally.

I was a bit surprised it actually hatched too. Imagine if the dragons in GOT had looked like that cute little thing.

I'm really glad that hatching the dragon didn't involve Merlin walking into a fire and sitting naked with a baby dragon crawling over him.
