Merlin series 4

At least Elian (sp?) will get something to do. All he did in this episode was give a look to Gwen. He's always the last of the knights to be given a line.

I didn't get that last scene either. Merlin must've learnt a really small amount of necromancy magic from the book and it was only powerful enough to wake Lancelot long enough to say goodbye? There must be some kids out there who ended up in floods of tears and confusion at Merlin setting Lancelot on fire. I hope he comes back one day anyway, it was nice having more than one character who knew Merlin was in the closet.

That was better than I expected it to be. I liked that Arthur actually believed Merlin about the magic for once, and that it wasn't all Uther's fault after all and Arthur really was involved. But of course I missed Morgana and am looking forward to her throwing Gwen into a tree next week.

It would've been a very good episode if they hadn't had so many scenes where people treat Merlin like shit. And Merlin claiming he was picking herbs instead of just saying "I went to the shrine with Gaius and this is what we found out". As much of an improvement as there has been this season, they're still hanging onto some old habits.

The boy was actually pretty scary at the beginning (it wore off when he was hugged).

Speaking of which, they saved the homoerotic scene of the week til the end. It's anyone's guess what Arthur did when he caught up with Merlin.

Yeah, wasn't Gwaine Merlin's friend when he first appeared? But now he's just "haha, stupid servant, LICK MY TOES" like the rest of them.

So Arthur is faced with the choice of a marriage to a beautiful woman that will make his kingdom stronger and his subjects safer or...Gwen. Who cheated on him with a zombie. Of course he picks Gwen...

Pretty good episode anyway. The Morgana scenes are really entertaining. Katie's really good!

Next week's look awesome. I wish Princess Pale had stuck around, but she would have ended up being killed off since Gwen has to be the only nice female character on the show ever.

A reasonable set up episode. But they don't seem to have much consideration for how Arthur's dumb decisions would actually be viewed by his people. As you say, aside from her being attractive, possessing pale boobs and not visiting the kingdom purely to murder him with magic, marrying her would also have made everyone safer.

Also, it's annoying how yet again, Gwen being the hottest woman in the land is a crucial part of the story. I mean, I can believe in dragons (when the writers remember dragons... it's been weeks!) and I can believe in magic, but Gwen is not a supermodel. And it's made more apparent by Morgana popping up on screen every few minutes looking ridiculously hot.

Oh well. At least Merlin finally told Arthur about Uncle Aggravating, even if the editing ruined it by having Arthur angry and disbelieving at Merlin in one scene and threatening to exile him, then in the very next scene asking him for important advice about the future of the kingdom.

Did Merlin actually tell Arthur that it was Gwen who told him about Evil Uncle being evil? Or did he just run in and say "your uncle's evil but I can't tell you how I know!" (They skipped it, probably to avoid this awkwardness.)

I thought Merlin must've said he got the info from Gwen because if he had no evidence, then why not mention weeks ago when he had no evidence for Evil Uncle's other evilness?

I guess Merlin hasn't learn the "make a copy of a map" spell yet either. Too busy learning "make people burp" spells.

The internet agrees.

HEY FUDDLEMIFF, remember that episode of Skins where Tony had a really explicit sex scene with a girl who looked a lot like his sister and Nicholas Hoult was only about 17 at the time and it was a really "how did they show that on tv?" type situation? The girl was the nice princess from the latest Merlin!
