UFC star Conor McGregor says he's retiring from fighting
It appears as though Conor McGregor has had enough. Moments after the conclusion of UFC 250 early Sunday, McGregor tweeted that he was walking away from MMA. McGregor (22-4) has just two UFC losses, one to Nurmagomedov and one against Diaz, which he avenged. "The Notorious" became the first UFC fighter to hold titles in two weight classes at the same time when he knocked out Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight belt at UFC 205 on Nov. 12, 2016.

Daniel Cormier says he is done fighting after losing to Stipe Miocic at UFC 252

MMA pound-for-pound rankings: Is there room at the top for Israel Adesanya?
Israel Adesanya put on a spectacular performance at UFC 253. The middleweight champion's second-round TKO of previously unbeaten Paulo Costa on Sept. 26 was as dominant a title fight victory as we've seen in a while. It was the kind of performance that can send a fighter skyrocketing in the rankings.

Khabib Nurmagomedov defeats Justin Gaethje at UFC 254, announces retirement
Nurmagomedov (29-0) said he has no interest in fighting the winner of a proposed January bout between Conor McGregor (22-4) and Dustin Poirier (26-6). Nurmagomedov said he has already choked both men out. He left his gloves in the center of the Octagon before departing.
Conor McGregor signs deal to fight Dustin Poirier on Jan. 23
Conor McGregor's long-awaited return to the Octagon is a done deal. McGregor has signed his bout agreement to fight Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 257 on Jan. 23, McGregor told ESPN on Thursday. Poirier signed his bout agreement last week, ESPN previously reported. The fight will be contested at 155 pounds, sources said. The location has yet to be finalized, though UFC president Dana White told ESPN's Brett Okamoto last week that it would take place on "Fight Island" in Abu Dhabi "if everything goes according to plans." The booking means McGregor will return to action a little over a year after his last fight: a 40-second TKO win over Donald Cerrone on Jan. 18, 2020.
UFC releases former middleweight champion Anderson Silva
One of the greatest fighters in mixed-martial-arts history is no longer under contract with the UFC. The UFC has released former middleweight champion Anderson Silva, the promotion and Silva's team confirmed Thursday. Silva's loss to Uriah Hall last month at Fight Night was billed as his UFC swan song, but Silva has not yet committed to retirement. The legendary "Spider" is now free to compete for any other promotion, whether it be in MMA or another combat sport. Silva (34-11, 1 NC) has just one win since 2012, and since then has had two positive tests for performance-enhancing drugs, though he was cleared of the most recent in 2017. Prior to the last few years, the Brazilian knockout artist had a brilliant résumé and has still only lost to top-tier fighters in the division.Silva held the UFC middleweight title from 2006 to 2013. He set UFC records for the longest title reign (2,457 days), longest winning streak (16), title fight finishes (9) and knockdowns (18). He ranks second in the promotion in title defenses (10).

Listen, I'd love to run the Moreno fight back next. It was probably the fight of the year, but at the end of the day, Figueiredo won the bout minus the point deduction in the third round. Moreno will definitely see him again -- and deserves to -- but I don't believe the UFC needs to be in a rush to book it right away. So, in a way, we're back where we started -- as the UFC had originally booked Figueiredo vs. Garbrandt at UFC 255 in November. But at the same time, the fight is much bigger now. Yeah, two fights ago, Figueiredo was an exciting new champion with a ton of finishing power, but now? Now, he's (presumably) the 2020 Fighter of the Year, and a stone-cold killer in the Octagon, not just a dangerous champ.

Big bets come in on Conor McGregor for Dustin Poirier bout
McGregor knocked out Poirier in the first round of their 2014 bout. Poirier is a consensus +255 underdog for Saturday's rematch, which will take place on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, and be available on ESPN pay-per-view.
