Favored Brooklyn Nets attracting big bets to win NBA title

The Brooklyn Nets franchise hasn't won a league championship since Julius Erving was dunking on the ABA in 1976. Bettors are betting big money that the Nets' title drought is about to end. Entering this year's playoffs, the loaded Nets are the consensus favorites to win the NBA title, and more money has been bet on Brooklyn than any other team at multiple U.S. sportsbooks. Brooklyn opened at around 9-1 to win the title and started garnering increased support from bettors in January ahead of its acquisition of James Harden. Seamus Magee, a sports trader for BetMGM, said the sportsbook "saw a wave of money [on the Nets] when rumors suggested Harden would go there."

Alex Rodriguez group to purchase Minnesota Timberwolves for $1.5 billion, sources say

Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor has reached a verbal agreement on a $1.5 billion sale of the team to former baseball star Alex Rodriguez and e-commerce mogul Marc Lore, sources told ESPN, confirming multiple reports. NBA approval of the deal was still pending, and neither side has publicly announced an agreement. The two sides had entered an exclusive 30-day negotiating window April 10 that expired without an agreement, though the sides continued to negotiate in good faith, sources previously told ESPN's Brian Windhorst. Taylor previously said a deal was contingent on Lore and Rodriguez keeping the team in Minnesota. The team has a lease at the Target Center through 2035, but the buyout is $50 million.
Lore and Rodriguez are 50-50 partners. They tried to buy the New York Mets last year but were beaten out for the Major League Baseball club by hedge fund manager Steve Cohen. Taylor, 80, a lifelong Minnesotan who bought the Timberwolves in 1994 for $88 million to save them from moving to New Orleans, has said he will continue to run the club for two more seasons until a handover in 2023. The Minnesota Lynx WNBA team is included in the sale.

Pending sale of Minnesota Timberwolves violates partnership
The complaint cites Taylor's failure to honor the "tag-along rights" for minority investors in the franchise, which allows them to sell their interests in the teams before Taylor sells his own. A vote of the NBA's board of governors is still required to give final approval of the sale to Lore and Rodriguez.

.NBA playoffs: Eight lessons from first round..
We started with 16 teams, and we're down to nine. After the Los Angeles Clippers and Dallas Mavericks wrap up their series on Sunday, we'll officially be in the second round of the NBA playoffs with just a month left until the Finals. One thing we know is that we'll have some new blood vying for the title, with five teams in pursuit of their first championship and no team having won since 2011.

For the first time since 2015, the second round of the postseason will not feature the defending NBA champions. In other words, we're officially in uncharted waters. The old guard is gone, and as the second round begins, we'll turn our attention to a new set of contenders,

Second Round

Eastern Conference
No.5: Atlanta at No.1: Philadelphia
No.3 Milwaukee at No.2 Brooklyn

Western Conference
No.4: LA Clippers at No.1: Utah
No.3: Denver at No.2: Phoenix
