That represented a 25% drop from the same timeframe in 2023 and the lowest total since the league began collecting such data in 2015. For context, there were 91 reported preseason concussions in 2017.

The New York Jets fired coach Robert Saleh on Tuesday amid the team's 2-3 start to the season, owner Woody Johnson announced. Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich will be the interim head coach. Saleh's firing marks the first time in Johnson's 25-year tenure that he has fired a coach in the middle of the season. After last season, a 7-10 finish, Johnson acknowledged that he was livid with the outcome and raised the stakes for Saleh by demanding significant improvement.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell: New kickoff rules working​

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell expects some offseason tweaks to the new kickoff rules but said that, on the whole, "it's working." The new rules have made kickoffs relevant again, he said, and the early data on injuries is promising. Just over 30% of kickoffs have been returned this season compared with 20% last season, he said. On average, kickoff drives are starting just past the 29-yard line, compared with just past the 24 previously, he said.

Jones was traveling Tuesday to Atlanta for the fall NFL league meeting, but the fallout from the Cowboys' worst home loss during his tenure -- a 47-9 defeat to the Detroit Lions -- is still ringing.
 
NFL owners approved Super Bowl's return to Atlanta in 2028
This will be the fourth time the NFL's championship game is played in Atlanta and the second in Mercedes-Benz Stadium, which was the site when the New England Patriots beat the Los Angeles Rams in 2019.

Owners approve Tom Brady's bid to buy minority stake of Raiders
Brady's deal was initially agreed upon in May 2023, but it took owners 17 months to give their approval over concerns he was receiving too much of a discount from Raiders majority owner Mark Davis.
