TOLEDO, Ohio — A crowd that gathered to protest a white supremacists' march Saturday turned violent, throwing baseball-sized rocks at police and vandalizing vehicles. Six people were arrested and police, fire and media vehicles were damaged, Police Chief Mike Navarre said.

At least two dozen members of the Roanoke, Va.-based National Socialist Movement, which calls itself "America's Nazi Party," gathered at a city park to march under police protection. Organizers said they were demonstrating against black gangs that were harassing white residents.

The march was canceled, and the violence broke out about a quarter mile away from the park along the planned route.

Keith White, a black resident, criticized city officials for initially allowing the march.

"They let them come here and expect this not to happen?" said White, 29.

Two hours after authorities called off the march, 150 officers in helicopters and cruisers and on foot, bicycles and horses continued to chase bands of youths.

Video around 2:25 p.m. showed crowds using bats to bring down a wooden fence, as looters broke into a small grocery store. Around 3 p.m., crowds of young men pelted the outside of a two-story residence with rocks, smashed out the windows with wooden crates, ran inside and threw out the furniture and lamps from the upper level windows to the sidewalk below.

It makes no sense. The irony of the situation is not lost on me at all but I don't really blame blacks for getting piseed the fuck off at a bunch of Nazi rasict scum.

I agree. It's far past time to put a stop to calling thugs victims at the expense of those they set out to victimize. It's time for the mealy-mouthed panderers to be regarded as the cultural-deathwish harboring sociopaths that they truly are.

And although I don't hate to say it, I know you hate to hear it -- the Nazis are proving that, then and now, they're only the villains (above and beyond everybody else) if you believe the spin.

Racism isn't illegal, Mentalist. Not here, anyway, because -- for the time being, at least -- opinions are still protected by the First Amendment, whether those opinions are popular or not.

Except that racism is only wrong insofar as it is based on false assumptions. The rioters in question proved beyond the shadow of a doubt that, in large part at least, the Nazis' assumptions were far from incorrect.

On another note, do you regard the Jewish Defense League as "racist scum"?
