As it turns out, a man-made plague.

Then again, Christians believe in a man-made god, so...

I agree. It seemed a little too conveniently targeted and effective to be some sort of "jump"

"If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." -Samuel Adams

Because Facebook slapped a fake "fact check" on this. Well, those "fact checks" need to be taken to task. Like so:

The spurious "fact check" in question.

It was quite the selective omissions from the emails, and the rw echo chamber went right to town, so yeah, lacking context is a thing these days.

As demonstrated, though, the appeal to context (as is almost always the case) was irrelevant.

They usually are.

Claim: "Hitler killed six million Jews."

"Fact-check": "FALSE! Hitler did not personally murder all six million Jews!"

That's what these appeals to context are. Bullshit nitpicking intended to deceptively label absolutely true claims as "false." Why anybody falls for that deeply dishonest tactic -- much less defends it -- is mind-boggling.

Here's my "conspiracy theory" about COVID, just for shiggles:

Yes, it came out of the lab in Wuhan. No, they didn't release it on purpose. Yes, they were (and probably still are) working on developing a coronavirus-based bioweapon. No, COVID-19 wasn't the final product.

The gain-of-function research was geared toward developing a mechanism to make coronaviruses jump species, but not so they could detonate a COVID bomb in the Gulf Stream that would kill puppies and kitties along with the people. The species jumping was just a test to see whether they could add any feature to the virus. Just to see if they could teach it new tricks of any kind, and species-jumping was the 'new trick' they tested on it first.

The first problem was, it worked. It did indeed jump species. The second problem was, it's fucking China. Everything there is Made... In China. Including their PPE, other safety equipment, the fucking virologists... fuck me, the only thing that worked the way they intended it to was the money funding the monkey farm; know why the money worked? Because the money was Made In The U.S.A. We paid for this pandemic. Without our knowledge or consent, we funded the fucking thing.

But all the rest of it was Made In China. So of course containment failed. Mao-revering little retards, dressed in garbage, tinkering with Captain Trips. Of fucking course it led to a global pandemic, because how could it not?

As for the funding? Fauci. Think he didn't know what they were doing over there? His emails show that he did. His emails also show that he knew masks were just theater, yet he explicitly denied that in front of Congress. He's a fucking fraud. His emails prove it.
