So any all y'all seen Avatar?

District 9 was only good for the last 30 minutes of the film. It was the first real mech (well, power suit, for the pedantic mechfans) battle I'd ever seen, and they did it pretty well.
 
I agree, this got 7/10 for me in 3d, I'm guessing on DVD or blu-ray it'd drop at least one point and maybe two. No way these graphics can avoid looking fake in high-def (movie screens are very low-def).

Pretty good but highly forgettable. I watched it on Saturday and cannot remember the names of any characters or why they did anything. I just remember the annoying line that we humans "killed our Mother" on earth (gimme a break and hire an editor).

Overall better than I expected, probably worth your $10 for the experience but will not change your life.

Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh what?

Blu-Ray is shown at 1920×1080, whereas Avatar in the cinemas is either shown at 10,000×7000 (in IMAX), or around 4096×2160 when shown in non-IMAX RealD.

Cinema screens, even when showing 35mm films and not digitally shot films, have a much larger resolution than HD TVs.
 
Just saw Avatar, I thought it was beautiful! Went to Cinebistro and had some fish tacos while sitting in a big comfy chair. Definitely worth watching again someday.

I didn't mind the Dances with Wolves story, lol.. the love story was sweet.
 
@ tomtrek: I dunno, things just look more blurry or less crisp on the big screen to me. I notice CGI a lot more at home. I'm not sure if it's resolution, or brightness, or LSD, or what.
 
It would have been better if it was written and directed by Joss Whedon.

I want to be a "legit Pandora person" like the large girl in Cassie's video says. In Athens they have a system to reduce polution. Your car registration restricts the use. (Odd numbers one day, even the other)

This girl should take part in a pilot study for access to the internet. If she only has access every other day perhaps we will save her and others from pain.

lol, if only he realised that I could tell him the entire story in minute detail. It would take me about 80 seconds and still not spoil the film.

If Cameron takes over a decade to develop the script alongside the technology, and is cocky enough not to take on any co-writers, and this trite story, simpleton characters and reheated fanboy dialogue is all he felt he needed to go with, then he doesn't get a pass from me.

If he wanted to show off his tech e-penis, he could have made a short movie to show in IMAX theaters before another feature, and then waited until there was a REASON to spend all this time, money, manpower and hype. For me, the end doesn't justify the means.

But since the movie is raking in megabucks, the studios feel totally vindicated. Now there's talk of turning every piece of entertainment known to man to 3D (including Wheel of Fortune, I kid you not), and planning in the short term to make it common enough so that everyone who had to buy a new home theater last year will have to buy ANOTHER new one all too soon.

Meanwhile, the indie film industry is currently in another downward cycle. It's just greedy, and just plain wrong. Whatever anti-BIGBADMONEYMAN message Cameron wrote into his fanboy script is hypocritical to the extreme. He would be just fine with every studio turning into Cameron factories, churning out theme park rides like this and expecting Oscars for the masturbatory pleasure. I'm just glad he goes away for 10 years between movies, giving people enough time to come back to their senses.

I did not like this movie attraction.
