So any all y'all seen Avatar?

I'll admit, on some level I am pretty much constantly embarrassed about not steering people away from Avatar.

I've given up on expecting any kind of redeeming artistic or intellectual value from anything that comes out of Los Angeles, though. I know it's the punk way out, but I get enough weird looks without being one of those IDIOT BOX LOL I DON'T OWN A TV LOL FUCK THE SYSTEM guys.

I watched it. It wasn't that bad considering some people are acting like it's the worst movie ever made. It was too long, but it looked nice and the action scenes were really good. The evil army guy was hilarious.

My opinion of it was great visuals, not strong plot wise. One of those movies I was happy i saw but don't have the need to see again.

Dunno if I'll bother going to see the squeal. I don't have much interest in it at this point.

Story sucked, but I expected no less. The plot was so heavy handed I was rooting for humans to burn the whole planet down.

Maybe it was just the theater I was in, but the 3D effect was awful. It felt very flat, like there were maybe 2 or 3 planes of cardboard cutouts moving around. Worse even was the fact that the glasses seemed to cut the brightness and color saturation of the image in half. Often times it looked much better without the glasses even with the resulting blurriness.

I have been to 3D IMAX movies that looked far better than this. I remember one called Cyberworld that was released nearly 10 years ago, looked fantastic, and did not waste anyones time pretending to have a story like Avatar did. It even had 3D The Simpsons in it.

I had hoped that after all this time they would have gotten better at this 3D thing. Guess not. And I was really looking forward to personal holodecks in the next 20 or 30 years. I mean, we're only 5 years away from Back to the Future II, and we're not even close to flying cars, hoverboards, Mr. Fusion, or self drying clothes with inside out pockets.

But we have iPhones. The future sucks.

1) I kept forgetting it was in 3D. Why did I pay extra for 3D again?
2) This movie sends a terrible message to the handicapped.
3) When Michelle Rodriguez says "I didn't sign up for this!" WTF? You're a mercenary, this is exactly what you signed up for.
4) That rape-y scene was a little uncomfortable. NOT rape, but somewhat rape-y. And therefore somewhat uncomfortable. I get it though, it's like breaking a horse, whatever. Still rape-y.

I had an avatar dream last night, dreamed the sequal was about the main guy had returned to earth, and didnt want to go back, but then he was persuaded to return when he found out someone was exploiting the navii to make porn.

I know that makes very little sence in context with the films, but there you go.

If anyone thinks they have seen a bad film they need to check out highlander 2, the film by which all other bad films are measured.

I still haven't watched Avatar. I missed it when it was at the theatre here and wasn't too upset by the fact.

Usually a big Sci-Fi spectacular would be on the top of my wish list of movies to go and see. Especially considering all the edgy thought provoking suicidally depressing drama's I'm dragged to on a regular basis.

The fact that I haven't watched this movie --yet I never stop hearing about it-- has really turned me off the whole thing to be honest. And after reading all the dissenting opinions in favour and against I'm even more annoyed.

It seems to me that everyone agrees that the CGI really is very special and from a technical standpoint this is a home run. It's also clear that everyone, both those who approve and disapprove, agree that the story is far too weak and probably a rip-off as well. The dialogue seems to be pretty bad also since as much exposure as this movie has had I don't see much in the way of quotable lines being bandied about.

Where am I going with this post?

Well I was going to go in to one of my regular Star Wars Prequel apologist rants but I'll try and reign it in.

I am a fan of the Prequels though I can see the problems in them as well. But playing Devils Advocate with the haters what did people DESPISE about the Prequels? Mainly the dialogue, acting and some shaky character choices, right? Some people also get pissy about "TOO MUCH CGI" but they're cocks.

The Star Wars Prequels sound FAR more original and deeper than Avatar could ever dream to be yet they were universally panned by critics and totally ignored by the industry. Return of the Sith WASN'T EVEN NOMINATED for the SFX Oscar!

Avatar and James Cameron on the other hand are now industry darlings and he is showered with awards and praise. I'm not sure what my final point here is but I felt like moaning at how unfair it is.

I can tell you why. The who thing was a transparent, preachy, political tangent. The cock knockers in Hollywood like to pat themselves on the back for being "socially aware" and "environmentally conscious". Not voting for this movie would be seen by their peers as being "insensitive". Bunch of cunts, the lot of them.

^No, that's not it.

And why did you say Avatar is in the five worst movies ever made in one post and then that it's "okay" in two other posts?

Also, Menty, I've seen far more hate towards Avatar than praise, to be honest, but that's probably becasue I pay more attention to internet discussion (where EVERYONE is so quick to post about how much they hate something popular and start "IS IT JUST ME OR DOES AVATAR SUCK!?" threads even though there's already twenty thousand other threads with the same subject) than award shows.

Anyway yeah I'd much rather watch any of the prequels than watch Avatar again, but then again I love Star Wars and would rather watch the prequels than many movies which I accept and recognise are better on all levels than them so that doesn't really say much. (Not that I'm saying Avatar's better than them, it isn't.)

And of course ROTS totally should have got the SFX oscar and Matthew Wood should have got best supporting actor for voicing General Grevious!

Also Episode 2 drags in the middle but then there's Natalie's nipples.

Look at the date stamp of when I said it was ok. December. I had just seen the movie after I wrote that review. I've since had time to think about it, and the more I do the lamer it seems. And as to your assertion that people are only hating on it because it's popular doesn't hold water. At least not for me. I like movies or dislike them for my own personal reasons. I don't care if it's popular or not. I loved the sw prequels and I loved the new Trek film. All very popular movies.
