Paramount Pictures will present the first 9 minutes from J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek Into Darkness exclusively in IMAX 3D beginning tomorrow — months ahead of the movie’s May 17th opening. Written by Damon Lindelof, Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci, Into Darkness is the followup to Abrams 2009 hit reboot of Paramount’s lucrative franchise. The special first look will play in 288 digital IMAX locations. Here’s a complete list of those theaters

Well poop. It's news to Nikki Finke, and she usually knows stuff before most people. Then again, she knows more about insidery Hollywood studio business, and not AICN-type scoops...

Which is programmed by SECTION 66-31A.

Man, I've come to really HATING Section 31. Not at first & for a long time. I was kind of indifferent to them/thought they were "kewl". Then recently, & now, I just outright HATE it/them. I don't hate s31 due to it being anti-Trek &/or a slap in Gene Roddenberry's face & vision &/or any cliche claptrap like that. I simply HATE Section 31 because they're fucking annoying.

I think you have to see the IMAX version to see it. They are showing it in Bradford (UK) near me but frankly I have spent my £10 now.

BTW - I have loved reading this thread. I haven't really participated but you all almost tip over into Trek geekiness, then you kind of catch yourself and go "NEVER MIND ITS JUST A FUCKIN FILM" but actually, you all really care. It's kind of charming (and I am not trying to be condescending) I would be a 100% Trek Geek if I had the knowledge and screen viewing time you lot have.

I saw a grainy cam of it. I wanna smack the fangirl making comments and oohing/aahing while she's filming it...

Mysterious hospital scene in London that teases the villain (Cumberbatch) for us, then cut to the middle of a wacky adventure with the crew on a primitive alien planet. There's a shuttlecraft hidden in a mountain and yes, the Enterprise underwater.

Bones and Kirk are getting chased through a red jungle by painted, spear-chucking natives. Meanwhile the shuttle bursts from the mountain, and Spock is lowered from the shuttle (by Uhura and Sulu) into a volcano, apparently so he can save the planet. Spock gets trapped down there, Uhura suits up to jump down and save him, Sulu's trying to stop her because the shuttle's about to explode. Kirk and Bones reach a cliff, and dive straight off into the ocean, where they jet-swim to -- ta-da! -- the submerged Enterprise.

Scotty greets them with complaints about how the salt water will affect the ship yada yada. On the bridge, Kirk and crew communicate with Spock while he's close to burning up in the volcano -- they're trying to get him out of there, while he's arguing with them about the Prime DIrective. Spock is cut off, the crew looks devastated. Cut back down to the volcano, where Spock does a mind thing, and the fires of the volcano start swirling around him, and--blackout.

From there we get some quick-cuts of other scenes from the movie, and that's it. Cumberbatch has a voiceover at the end, asking Kirk, "Is there anything you wouldn't do for your family?"
La de da, la de da.

WHY WOULD THEY SWIM TO THE SHIP INSTEAD OF JUST BEING BEAMED THERE FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK

(it's just a movie)

There are plenty of TOS episodes where the crew had to go undercover on a planet not to break the prime directive.

And in Insurrection they had cloaking cloaks. Which, come to think of it, are dumber than the Enterprise going underwater.
