Star Trek 12 news/countdown thread

So a trailer will be released on Thursday online, followed by a longer version in front of The Hobbit, except in US IMAX screenings where you'll get 9 minutes of the movie but no trailer.

Is that a TVH joke or for reals? I could see them obliviously repeating a past plot device, and the fanboy in me likes the idea because then they'd need a new Enterprise.

@ Wacky: there are at least TWO MFers here who would have done brilliant posters.
I wasn't aware Aqua was in that biz too, or of course I would have included him....

That was a great episode! Really good scifi concept. Gravity generators held together a "planet" made up of water. Ok I forget why they did that exactly but it was a cool idea with some very nice effects. And Paris got demoted, which later led to the episode where Harry has to see his ex-con best friend get promoted above him for a second time.

"30 Days".

I remember it because the guy who played Carrie's gay best friend on Sex and the City played one of the water planet people.

I think the enterprise being able to operate normally under water thing is just their way of fucking off even more the people who didn't like the ship being build on earth.

No doubt in the 3rd one it will be able to fly safely through solid rock.

Turns out Riker's old captain is also a Timeguy, and he takes his prototype cloaking device back in time AND into an alternate Trekverse to cause much hijinx.

So pretty. I only hope the Borg drones don't look naff when you have enough time to look them over properly and realise they're made from plumbing offcuts.

Since by this time tomorrow we'll most likely know who the villain really is, what his motives are and what he blows up, shall we have some last minute summaries of our speculations?

Abrams and his writers have been good at misdirection, so it's still hard to tell much for sure. I remember Trekmovie confirming that Khan was the villain a few months ago. That seemed to be a red herring. OR WAS IT? Probably.

Then we found out the title and everyone naturally thought the movie would mostly take place beyond the frontier. Now it looks like it's the exact opposite. The movie may merely open with "gee, going beyond the frontier was fun! I'm glad we're safely on our way back to Earth now!"

I'm starting to think BC will be a combination of Mitchell and Khan. A genetic experiment gone wrong, perhaps. A grown man undergoes a treatment which accidentally makes him become ever more powerful and corrupt throughout the movie, until Kirk takes him down the only way he knows how...

Maybe he is a descendent of the original Khan, who didn't get on the botany bay, that way he can still be a Khan, and keep his original British accent.
