Star Wars: Rebels

That was pretty meh. I liked when the droid transformed into a killer droid because I like it when droids do things like that. But the episode needed a b-plot or something (or an a-plot where Hera and Sabine got to a sauna with surprisingly violent results and the droid plot being the b-plot.)

Why is AP such a dick all the time? Usually when droids are dicks it's uninentional (like 3PO) or because they've been modified in some way (like K-2SO.) AP seems to have just been programmed to be a horrible dick?

Kallus smiling at hundreds (thousands?) of people he knew being blown up was a bit...callous. But I guess he's not a nice guy!

Uhhh yeah this was OK? I mean, I kind of liked the droid infiltrator and I'm actually starting to like Zeb more when he acts like an actual soldier and not like a teenager, but overall this was another episode where Thrawn goes "We lost but this was all part of my master plan!" at the end.

AP-5 was a major dick, though. Moreso than he really has been in the past. I think part of it is because he's super old for a droid, and maybe Chopper has been a bad influence?

HEY THEY TALK ABOUT THE GEONOSIAN EGG AND THE QUEEN IN THE VADER COMIC IN REBELS RECON IF YOU WANT TO KNOW ABOUT THAT

Now THAT'S what a great episode of Rebels looks like. That's Rebels at its full potential. That's what it should always be like.

I've compained MANY TIMES before that they always held back on Sabine's backstory in her centric episodes before. They'd tell us one thing about her (She went to the Academy! She was a Bounty Hunter!) and nothing more and never really let us know how Sabine felt about that one thing. This one told us more about her than every previous episode and crucially worked it all in to her emotional arc. Tiya Sircar gave a great voice performance especially in that last speech to Kanan. It had a maturity Rebels often lacks. The animation on her face really sold it too. They never included a different animation style when telling the history of the Darksaber, the kind of thing Rebels never does. I hope this is a sign that they're going to move away from the conventional episodes more often.

And now we have to wait A MONTH for part two!?

Yes! That was really really good! It's almost like when this show bothers to spend time developing characters (that aren't Ezra) while at the same time trying to cram a whole other plot in there it makes the show feel a lot better paced! They originally had this episode be the A-Plot and last weeks be the B-Plot - can you imagine how bad that would have been?

But yeah Tiya Sircar is actually one of the best actors on the show, it seems, so they really need to give her a lot to do all the time forever.

TIYA SIRCAR IS IN THIS WEEK'S REBELS RECON which is another reason to watch it!

It was good, but the previous episode was written and directed by Dave Filoni wheras this one I could kind of tell obviously wasn't. I mean, there was really a lot of standing around talking in that one room in the first half, whereas in 'Trials of the Darksaber' the talking took place while other things were happening so it felt more engaging? This was a bit static in that first half. DON'T GET ME WRONG it was on the "good" list of Rebels episodes (and I'm more critical of Rebels THAN SOME (Tomtrek)) it just wasn't a best episode ever contender like that previous one. The lightsaber fight was very good and Sabine's mother was a good character. We rarely ever get to see a mother/daughter relationship in Star Wars so that was something new. They pulled off a few seconds of "DID THEY JUST KILL SABINE?" before revealing that no of course they didn't.

I hope Sabine isn't gone for too long (I'm ASSUMING she's obviously coming back.) I guess she won't be needed for the Obi-Wan/Maul stuff and that could take up a couple of episodes and hopefully there's a Hera centric episode coming up. But really Sabine is the best character and has to be back by the end of the season.

I still don't get why we had to wait a month for this episode when it was a direct follow on from the last one.

Yeah it was good! I liked how Sabine's mum just enough of an asshole to make it believable that Sabine wouldn't ever want to return home, but not too much of an asshole to make it unrealistic that she would turn on Gar Saxon when things went wrong.

If this were Clone Wars we'd get two more episodes after this entirely about Sabine being awesome on Mandalore, but since this is Rebels I'm sure we'll just get a whole bunch of episodes where Ezra learns a lesson instead.

THIS WEEK'S REBELS RECON HAS ANDI TALK TO TIYA SIRCAR AGAIN AND SHE'S STILL CUTE AF

Latest episode was pretty good. The opening made it look like we were really going to get to see what life is like for Kallus, but we didn't really? But I liked how Kallus is still kind of evil even though he's working for the rebels now. I felt a bit sorry for List. Governor Pryce is always fun. Thrawn finally did something smart, though I don't know why the Imperials haven't printed out "HAVE YOU SEEN THIS BOY?" posters of Ezra yet (unless the idea is that Kallus is the only one who's seen Ezra before but I don't know if that holds up.)

I LIKED IT. It was good to see Admiral Moustache again. I wonder if Thrawn will work out the location of Chopper base when he notices which planet is now missing.

IN THIS WEEK'S REBELS RECON ANDI WEARS T-SHIRTS AND PABLO IS SAD

Latest new episode: Hey, Mon Mothma got a better episode than Leia did! The space battle stuff looked the best it ever has (in Rebels, Clone Wars still looked better obviously.) I'm not really sure how all those ships got there so fast at the end or how they even knew where Motha was, but it was a nice speech.
