Starfleet Academy - It's Happening

Pretty sure the last thing I watched and actually enjoyed was "The Expanse". It was pretty faithful to the books, though the show ditched out with three books left to go for a handful of reasons. Otherwise, there's too much content out there to absorb and thanks to streaming most of it gets canceled when it's getting interesting, so why even bother? Ain't nobody got time for that.

It's weird that TrekBBS has gone over to actually being critical again -I remember when Discovery started and every episode was getting 10/10 ratings and "YOU'RE JUST NOT GIVING IT A CHANCE" type posts...I guess they've been worn down over the years.
Really? Cool. I haven't posted there for about half a year - mainly because I have nothing much to say about Trek anymore, but also because of the weird "opinions on the rest of the Internet don't exist" mentality of many who think paying on a BBS is evidence of superior intellect.

Is Fireproof still holding the line? *yawn*

I mean, I haven't looked THAT much at the Trek forums lately so who knows. I looked at the thread about the potential next movie and it's all people making fun of how it'll probably never goet made though.

I used to get so hyped at the mention of a new Trek movie, wanting to learn everything I could about it. Those early days were a lot of fun...

I dunno, maybe they should hold off until they have a script locked and production ready to go before announcing anything.

Dave Batista's range is outstanding if that's my favourite wrestler.

Nobody over the age of 40 is going to sign up to their streaming service for this, since that age group is all about cop shows and Yellowstone or whatever. Nobody under the age of 30 will sign up for it because they have no money and it because looks like a parody of sci fi reboots/remakes from 20 years ago. A handful of loudmouths (who may or may not be paid shills) will pretend it's a hit on social media while anyone else still paying attention will make fun of it.

Our pop culture has rotted out from the top down.

I just don't get it. Is there really nobody that could have pumped the breaks during the conceptual stage and asked if the whole thing feels naff? Because it sure fucking looks it. They clearly aren't concerned about older fans (beyond what I'm sure will be an avalanche of cringe inducing memberberries) and are seeking the younger demo but is the younger demo going to suddenly like Star Trek if it's presented like THIS?

I have doubts!

I get that they want to trek to appeal to a younger audience, but what about the people who have liked trek their entire lives?

Do we just fuck off now?

Apparently we're not dying fast enough for them.

The irony here is that it's part of Paramount/CBS, which has always been known as the "old peoples" network with all its procedurals -- right now their signature star is Kathy Bates I mean...
