I'm rewatching the last episode of Picard, just to feel something about trek again.

I'll wait to see the final product, of course, and I will watch an ep or two out of curiosity, but this whole thing looks like a gigantic misfire. Like, take the worst elements from Discovery and triple down on that sort of misfire.

Okay:

They hired a bunch of people who can't handle Trek dialogue. Especially Holly Hunter, who seems to have lost the ability to open her mouth while speaking. The only people who got it were Giamatti and Picardo. And 25 years ago I even wonder if Giamatti could have done what he can do now... he's aged incredibly well as an actor.

So the bridge crew is a Jon Hamm impersonator, and some lesbian interstealler Golden Girls? Mkay. SHAVE THAT FLINTSTONE SHADOW, SOLDIER!

Is there such a thing as the SFX being "too good"? I actually miss the simpler FX of the TNG era. Ever since JJ, battle scenes are so detail-oriented, that it's actually harder to digest the overall thing itself that is happening. Focus here! No, focus there! Especially when you add the Shaky Camera Syndrome, another unfortunate JJ legacy. At least I didn't notice many lens flares...
