The Dark Knight

Dark Pickle

Fucked Off
If I were Ellie, I'd say they made this movie just for me.

If I were the Comic Book Guy, I'd say BEST BATMAN (and possibly comic/super-hero) MOVIE EVER!

But since I am myself, I will simply say that I just had a 2 1/2 hour long DORKGASM, and urge you to see this movie as soon as you possibly can.

Ledger's Joker was phenomenal. Brilliant performance. As a matter of fact, all performances were excellent. I had a couple of minor techno/effects issues, but this is easily the best movie of the year so far. My oh my...dead or not, Ledger's performance is Oscar-worthy.

Oh ya, and the Mayor of Gotham City is an Other. Yay!!

Overacted, but good. Definitely not Oscar-worthy, but political correctness dictates that the movie will somehow get an honorary Oscar or some shit, to further milk Heath Ledger's death and boost the DVD.

Had Heath Ledger been alive, the movie would have been flamed by the critics, and opened with an 80 millionish weekend, not whopping 150 million. Kudos for the marketing team(s), they've done a really good job by masturbating a man from beyond the grave.

I've seen it once. It's the authentic Dark Knight tale as crafted by Miller put to film thanks to Ledger's brilliance. He's wonderful. I will always love him deeply, especially after this.

I'll get involved in a critical discussion after I've seen it three times, probably Monday. I'm withholding critique until then.

I agree with Jack. The movie needs to be seen more than once. There's quite a bit I'm sure I missed.

Unfortunately, I'm not as current with my Dark Knight errata as I am with my Marvel heros. As soon as I do more studying and watching of this movie a few more times, I'll post an honest review.

Forced rating = 8/10

I approved of Christian Bale's version of the Dark Knight in Batman Begins before this, and really admired Heath Ledger's work in several roles before he died. Inspite of the hype, I'm looking forward to what will no doubt be an intense trip. Just waiting for the line ups to go down.

Saw it dress up as the joker opening night. It was awesome. People were wanting to take pictures with me and stuff. Little kids were afraid of me. Oh and the movie wasn't bad either. ;)

Saw somebody's (really awfully poor quality) cam download of it... was still blown away. Going to the theater next Friday to see it there. One thing I loved about Batman Begins and saw done here as well is the way things that would otherwise be ridiculous lifts from the comic book source are given plausible functions to be included in the film -- from Batman Begins, I mean the reason he has a cape. There's an especially vivid one toward the end of The Dark Knight as well, but I won't spoil it.

I have a good cam vid copy if you want it. PM me and I'll send you a link to the one I downloaded.

Oh, I hate 'em. I wouldn't have watched the one for this flick except that I just got pulled in despite the shitty image and sound quality.

Where to start . . . where to start.

1) Racist against Asians! That was the bar-none Asian stereotype I am used to seeing in movies.

2) The cast was an excellent ensemble. Everyone did a great job. I particularly enjoyed Michael Caine's Alfred and Aaron Eckhart's Harvey Dent.

3) I think Brendan Fraser would make a better Batman and a better Bruce Wayne. Not to say that I didn't enjoy Christian Bale's performance. I like him a lot. But Michael Keaton had more character. I hope that if they need to reboot again that they pick Brendan Frasier.

4.) I like Maggie Gyllenhal in just about anything, but she really didn't come across as confident with herself as the character was written.

5.) Let me get this straight. They removed his weapons, took his fingerprints, but didn't remove his makeup? Common sense distracted me throughout the entire interrogation sequence. I'm surprised they didn't remove his clothes, shave his head, and pressure wash him. For security reasons.

6.) Definitely a movie made for this decade. All this anti-hero crap is getting boring. All of this "ends justify the means" bullshit. Which brings me to my last point --

7.) What in the world were they thinking covering up the Two-Face murders at the end of the movie? That is exactly the sort of corruption that golden-boy Harvey Dent was fighting against, and is a spit in the face of his memory. He would have wanted them to be honest, because lies with "good intentions" are what creates things like corrupt cops.

Two more things:

1) Clearly, Bruce Wayne's manor is not the safe haven Rachel Dawes seems to think it is considering that the Joker had just terrorized a fundraiser there the night before (or whatever the timeframe)

2) There is no way that black Mobster could have possibly believed those three little punks' claim about killing the Joker. You don't get to the top without having more common sense than that. If Mr. Joker was able to invade their downstairs meeting and get away alive, how could those three dumb kids take him? I wouldn't have necessarily thought they were on payroll, I would have suspected it was somebody else in the bag painted/scarred to look like joker.

My thoughts:

Bale was pathetic as the Batman. Ruined the movie and the pacing for me, especially with his stupid lisp and hoarse voice when in costume. All that bullshit over the suit is just that, bullshit. He never depended on the suit in the myth, these Hollywood creeps just don't get it. I love Bale, he should stick to his American Psycho personae.

Ledger is remarkable. Third time around on his performance, and I just want to cut the clips where he appears out of the movie and compile them into it's own little story. The best part is his intro, IMO, but it's the original Kane version of the Joker, throughout.

Especially the liplicking.

The rest of it is pretty standard fare. It especially slows down when it segues into the two-face sideline. And not a PEEP out of Barbara Gordon...what did they do, forget to have the Joker cripple her, or that she was Batgirl? Pathetic.

Dent was good, but they squandered the whole two-face concept IMO.

My final rating is about 6 for the film and a 9.5 for Ledger's brilliant work in it.
