White, Phillips Named To All-CAA Squads​


UNCW junior Trazarien White and graduate student Shykeim Phillips were named to the Coastal Athletic Association all-conference teams following a vote by the league's head coaches.

White, who earned second-team honors as a sophomore, enters the conference tournament as the league's fourth-leading scorer at 19.6 points per game. He's recorded three games of 30-or-more points including a career-high 38 against Campbell in late February. White also leads the Seahawks in rebounding at seven caroms per game. He's crafted six double-doubles this season.

Phillips earned both third-team honors and All-Defensive honors. For Phillips, it was his second time being selected to the all-defensive team. Phillips is averaging 14 points per game this season and leads the league at 1.8 steals per game. Over the course of his last 10 games, Phillips is averaging 14.1 points per game and 5.3 assists. He committed just seven turnovers during that span and ranks third nationally in assist/turnover ratio at 3.9.

Seahawks Ride Early Offense For Series Clinching Win​


Alec DelMartino and Tammer Thach powered a four-run top of the first inning as UNCW posted a 7-5 win in the rubber game of its series with Charlotte at Hayes Stadium. With the series win, the Seahawks improved to 11-9 while the 49ers dropped to 10-10. The Seahawks jumped on Charlotte for four runs in the top of the first with DeMartino opening the scoring with a two-run single and Thach connecting on his 10th homer of the season with a man on. Charlotte starter Cameron Hansen faced six batters, surrendering five hits and a hit batter, before coming out of the game.

Men's Tennis Cracks National Team Rankings​


Winners of five of its last six matches, UNCW entered the ITA national rankings on Tuesday for the first time this season. The Seahawks enter their week ranked 71st. The Seahawks join fellow Coastal Athletic Association members Delaware and Monmouth in the rankings. The Blue Hens are 48th while the Hawks are 75th.

Heading up the Seahawks this season are Reece Falck, who owns an 8-1 record, and Gabe Hurtado with a 7-3 mark. In doubles, Falck and Harold Huens are ranked 56th nationally with a record of 10-1. UNCW hosts Delaware on Wednesday at 2 p.m. and later in the week, it'll be Drexel visiting the Port City on Mar. 29.

UNCW Advances To CAA Title Match: Seahawks will make their eighth consecutive appearance in the title match​


UNCW advanced to the championship match of the Coastal Athletic Association tournament for the eighth consecutive season on Saturday with a 4-0 win over William & Mary. The Seahawks, who won their 10th straight match, improved to 16-5 with the win while the Tribe fell to 13-10. With doubles tied at 1-all, Harold Huens and Reece Falck clinched the point for UNCW with a 7-5 win on court one.Gabe Hurtado and Trey Mallory opened the day with a 6-0 win on court three.

Huens continued his strong play with a straight-set win at number one singles. He made quick work of Satchel Benn (6-0, 6-0) not dropping a game and making it 2-0 Seahawks. Mallory pushed that lead to 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-1 win over William & Mary's Albert Hansen. Jordi Domenech sent the Seahawks to the finals with a 6-2, 6-4 win on court six over Sean Joseph. The Seahawks will take on the winner of Elon and Delaware at 2 p.m. on Sunday in the championship final.

UNCW Heading Back To NCAA Tournament​


UNCW cruised to its fourth consecutive Coastal Athletic Association men's tennis championship on Sunday with a 4-1 win over Elon at the McCormack-Nagelsen Tennis Center. UNCW advances to the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season and owns a record of 17-5 and an 11-match winning streak. Elon fell to 16-8. For UNCW and Head Coach Mait Dubois, it's the program's 10th conference title and appearance in the NCAA Tournament. The Seahawks will learn their opponent and destination for the first round on Apr. 29 at 6 p.m. The Seahawks swept the doubles point with Reece Falck and harold Huens clinching the point with a 6-3 win on court one. Elon tied the match at 1-all with a win on court six as Dylan Heap won, 6-3, 6-0. Falck restored the Seahawk lead on court three with a straight-set 6-1, 6-3 victory. Trey Mallory moved UNCW to match-point with a 6-3, 6-4 win at fifth singles. On court one, Huens ended the match with a 6-2, 6-4 win.

Winstead, Offense Secure CAA Tournament Berth​


Junior Emily Winstead fashioned the fifth no-hitter in UNCW softball history with five hitless innings at Drexel and was supported by four home runs in the Seahawks' 15-0 rout of the Dragons at the Drexel Softball Field on Saturday. The Seahawks (26-19, 15-8 CAA) secured a berth in the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association Championship, to be played at Boseman Field, with the shutout win over the Dragons (14-27, 9-13 CAA). Winstead (11-16) faced one batter above the minimum with the lone base runner being Drexel's Lily Meuninck on a hit-by-pitch to start the bottom of the second. The no-hitter featured nine strikeouts. Winstead is the first Seahawk to accomplish the feat since Peyton Jordan in 2017.

Track & Field Preview: CAA Championships​


With eight in-season meets in the books, the UNCW outdoor track and field teams now set their sights on the big prize – the 2024 Coastal Athletic Association Track & Field Championships set for Friday and Saturday, May 10-11, at the Jerry and Jeanne Robertson Track and Field Complex hosted by Elon. The Seahawks have set four school records heading into the two-day meet on the campus of Elon. The teams have also registered 41 top-ten all-time performances, 36 event wins and nine school records over the last five months. UNCW has already competed at Elon this year when the men's and women's squads combined for four top-ten performances and won six events. Sophomore Jesse Helton established a new school record in the Men's Shot put at Elon in late March.

Huens Named CAA Player of the Year​


UNCW's Harold Huens was honored as the Coastal Athletic Association's Player of the Year to headline an impressive honors haul for the Seahawks the league announced on Wednesday. Head Coach Mait DuBois was named Coach of the Year as the Seahawks won their fourth consecutive conference tournament and advanced to the NCAA Regionals. Huens, who also earned First Team All-CAA singles and doubles honors, became the fourth Seahawk to be named Player of the Year with the last coming in 2021 when Bruno Caula was honored. The junior posted an 11-5 record at the top position in the lineup and was 4-1 against conference opponents.

Huens joined Reece Falck on the top doubles team in the conference. The duo fashioned a 16-4 record on the season, including a 14-4 record at the number one position. Huens and Falck were ranked as high as 43rd after entering the ITA rankings in early March. Falck also was named Second Team All-CAA. The senior posted a record of 11-4 while playing mostly at third singles. Gabe Hurtado rounded out UNCW's award winners with Third Team honors. As a senior, Hurtado was tied for the team lead with a 13-4 record, including a 5-0 record against CAA opponents.

Softball Wins Second CAA Championship​


The UNCW softball team claimed its second Coastal Athletic Association Championship in three seasons with an epic seventh-inning comeback over Campbell to win 3-1 in the winner-take-all Championship Game on Saturday afternoon at Boseman Field. The Seahawks (33-21) scored three runs in the top of the seventh after the Camels (37-21-1) went up 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth. UNCW won four games in four days, including a pair of victories over top-seeded Campbell. The Seahawks will learn their NCAA Regional destination in the NCAA Softball Selection Show on Sunday at 7 p.m. A special viewing party will be held at Walk-On's on Oleander Drive beginning an hour before the show.

Seahawks Finish Second in 2024 NGI​


The UNCW women's golf team finished the 2024 National Golf Invitational in second place on Sunday at the Ak-Chin Southern Dunes Golf Club. The Seahawks (289-294-297=880) entered the third round in first, but Rutgers fashioned a 293 final round score to edge UNCW by three strokes. UNCW's Vitoria Levy fired a two-under par 70 in the third round to conclude the three-day postseason invitational with a share of first along with Jacksonville's Jinger Heath. Heath won the first playoff hole to claim individual medalist honors.

Stockton, Winstead Earn NFCA All-Region Honors​


UNCW's Skylar Stockton and Emily Winstead have earned National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Mid-Atlantic Region Third-Team honors as announced by the organization on Saturday afternoon. It is the second NFCA All-Region honor of Winstead's career after earning a nod in 2022. Stockton is a first-time All-Region recipient and was also a 2024 All-Coastal Athletic Association First-Teamer. Winstead entered the NCAA Regionals with a 13-7 record and a 1.73 ERA across 137.2 innings pitched. The junior right-hander has struck out 141 batters and became the third Seahawk in program history to surpass 400 career strikeouts in the CAA Championship Finals vs. Campbell last weekend.

Stockton, a graduate student, has hit .355 with a career-high four home runs and 23 RBI along with being one of the national leaders and school record holders with 20 hit-by-pitches following the Seahawks' run to the 2024 CAA title last weekend. The experienced outfielder has also flashed the leather numerous times this season, including several highlight-worthy catches in UNCW's CAA title run last season. UNCW has had 11 All-Region selections and at least one in the last four seasons.

UNCW To Be No. 2 Seed At CAA Tournament​


UNCW averted a sweep at the hands of Delaware with an 8-5 win in the nightcap of a Coastal Athletic Association doubleheader on Friday at Bob Hannah Stadium. The Seahawks (36-19, 20-7 CAA) will be the number two seed in next week's conference championship tournament at Brooks Field. The Blue Hens (29-24, 16-11) won the lidlifter on Friday in walk-off fashion, 5-4. UD will be the number four seed in the tournament. In the second game,aker Cox earned the save, his first, while Mason Murdock (2-1) was credited with the win. Cox ended the game with a bases-loaded double. The Seahawks return to the field on May 23 in the second round of the conference tournament at Brooks Field. The tournament opens on May 22 with games at noon and 4 p.m.

Men's Basketball Completes 2024-25 Roster​


UNCW men's basketball Head Coach Takayo Siddle and staff have finalized the Seahawk roster for the 2024-25 season with the addition of experienced guards Greedy Williams and Elijah Jamison as well as incoming freshman post player Makoi Mabor Marier. This offseason the UNCW staff worked to restock the roster by signing five players out of the transfer portal, one junior college player and one high school player. Williams, Jamison and Marier are the most recent signees that round out the 2024-25 roster.

Williams was a 2023-24 NJCAA All-American last season for Chipola College in Marianna, Fla. The 6-5 point guard averaged 11.8 points and shot 42.9 percent from the field while leading Chipola to its 28th Panhandle Conference Championship, 18th NJCAA Region VIII/FCSAA State Championship, and 19th NJCAA Tournament appearance.

Jamison, a native of Louisburg, N.C., returns to his home state following two seasons at Milwaukee, where he played all 69 games with 47 starts for the Panthers. The 6-3 guard averaged 8.9 points, 2.9 rebounds and 2.7 assists last season and surpassed double-digits 14 times with a pair of 20-point efforts.

Marier, the No. 11 rated prep player in North Carolina per On3.com, helped Gaston Christian to the NCISAA 3A State Championship Game and was a 2024 NCISAA 3A All-State selection. Originally from South Sudan, Marier participated in the NBA's Basketball Without Borders program in 2022 in Cairo, Egypt.
