WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: The Bloodline remains a united front but doubts linger​

The Bloodline is stronger than ever in the aftermath of Survivor Series WarGames. The friction between Sami Zayn and Jey Uso gave way to friendship on WWE SmackDown, but it appears some baggage remains. Jey Uso and Zayn repeatedly cost each other victories in the lead up to Survivor Series. Generally, these were not intentional as much as collateral damage of in-fighting. Zayn's decision to choose The Bloodline over his friendship with Kevin Owens mended those fences. Jey Uso directly aided Zayn in scoring an important victory on Friday night, even if questions about Zayn's honesty linger in The Bloodline.The blue brand closed out Friday's show with the finals of the SmackDown World Cup. Ricochet and Santos Escobar fought tooth and nail to not only win the tournament but to earn a shot at GUNTHER's intercontinental championship.

WWE SmackDown is closing out the year with a bang. Dates were set for the returns of John Cena and Roman Reigns, plus a big development is coming for Sami Zayn. Zayn's induction into The Bloodline continues to pay dividends week after week. The Usos performed well in their undisputed WWE tag team title defense against Sheamus and Butch on Friday, but Zayn was the difference maker. Jey Uso teased a reward for Zayn next week as Reigns returns. Cena will also return to the company by year's end. A busy episode of SmackDown featured an interesting development in the feud between Bray Wyatt and LA Knight, an appearance by SmackDown women's champion Ronda Rousey and a boost of momentum for Ricochet ahead of his intercontinental championship match against GUNTHER.

John Cena is back. Cena will step foot inside a WWE ring for the 20th consecutive year on the second-last day of 2022 when he teams with Kevin Owens to battle Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. Undisputed WWE universal champion Reigns expressed his intention to rid The Bloodline of their Owens problem. Reigns would team with Zayn to fight Owens and a partner of Owens' choosing on the Dec. 30 episode of SmackDown. In a shocking twist, that partner was revealed to be the 16-time world champion and Hollywood superstar. The latest blue brand presentation also featured two championship matches. GUNTHER defended his intercontinental championship against SmackDown World Cup winner Ricochet, the man he defeated for the title in June. Women's tag team champions Dakota Kai and Iyo Sky defended their crowns against the newly united front of Liv Morgan and Tegan Knox.

Reigns and Zayn did not mince their words when addressing Cena and Owens, who they will face in a tag team match on the final SmackDown of 2022. Last week, Owens enlisted Cena as his partner of choice to wrestle Reigns and Zayn on the Dec. 30 episode of SmackDown. The booking marks 20 consecutive years that Cena will compete inside a WWE ring. In advance of the match, Reigns and Zayn addressed their opponents with serious intensity. In other Bloodline business, The Usos defended their undisputed WWE tag team championships against Ashante Adonis and Top Dolla of Hit Row. SmackDown also served as a proving ground for the next No. 1 contender for the SmackDown women's championship. John Cena is a winner in 2022. Cena returned to WWE SmackDown for his 20th consecutive year of in-ring competition as he teamed with Kevin Owens to defeat Roman Reigns and Sami Zayn. Reigns and Zayn promised to rid The Bloodline of its Owens problem, but they could not contend with the united front of Owens and Cena. Tasked with choosing a partner to face Reigns and Zayn, Owens could not have made a more impactful choice than siding with the 16-time world champion.The final SmackDown of 2022 also featured the surprise return of Charlotte Flair. "The Queen" goaded Rousey into an impromptu SmackDown women's championship match. Rousey, too proud to reject the request immediately after a competitive match against Raquel Rodriguez, backed herself into a corner.

Undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns vs. Kevin Owens is official for the 2023 Royal Rumble. An irate Reigns accepted Owens' challenge on Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown. Reigns dressed down Sami Zayn for eating the pinfall in the duo's loss to John Cena and Kevin Owens last week. Owens capitalized on Reigns' emotions and talked him into a title match at the Rumble. It marks the third time that Reigns and Owens will compete against each other at the annual event, as well as the third time that the universal title is at stake in addition to the WWE title. The Usos' tag team championships were at stake on Friday against the joint forces of Sheamus and Drew McIntyre. Charlotte Flair defended her SmackDown women's championship in an impromptu match and new entrants were announced for the men's and women's Royal Rumble matches.

Roman Reigns challenged Sami Zayn to stand on his own two feet and then cut the legs out from under him. Estranged best friends Zayn and Kevin Owens collided in the main event of SmackDown on Friday night. Zayn sided with The Bloodline at Survivor Series, but his longtime friendship with Owens continues to put pressure on his alliance. Tasked with taking care of Owens, Zayn fought admirably against his former buddy in the main event of SmackDown. It appears, however, The Bloodline did not fully trust Zayn to get the job done. Friday's show also featured gold at stake. Intercontinental champion GUNTHER defended his title against his most physically imposing challenger yet: the monster of all monsters Braun Strowman. SmackDown women's champion Charlotte Flair and legendary luchador Rey Mysterio were also in the house, plus a new tournament was announced.

The Bloodline is a mess and Kevin Owens remains the biggest threat to Roman Reigns' dominance in quite some time. Owens got the better of Solo Sikoa, Sami Zayn and The Usos ahead of his undisputed WWE universal championship match against Reigns at the Royal Rumble. Reigns was notably absent from the final SmackDown before the Royal Rumble. Reigns may want to reconsider his media obligations in the future as The Bloodline completely deteriorated in what should statistically be a one-sided rivalry against Owens. Another week of failure for The Bloodline further puts Zayn's future with the group into question.This week's episode of SmackDown also featured a brief cameo from Brock Lesnar. The former WWE and UFC champion officially announced himself as an entrant in the men's 2023 Royal Rumble match after laying out his rival, Bobby Lashley.

The Usos were scheduled to defend their undisputed WWE tag team championships against Braun Strowman and Ricochet on Friday night. Unfortunately, Jey Uso had been AWOL since walking on his family at the Royal Rumble in protest of their assault on Zayn. Jey Uso arrived at the final hour to aid his brother but that does not mean he is firmly by The Bloodline's side. A new No. 1 contender for the intercontinental championship was also crowned in a fatal four-way match between Rey Mysterio, Karrion Kross, Madcap Moss and Legado del Fantasma frontman Santos Escobar.

Sami Zayn may be the challenger at Elimination Chamber, but undisputed WWE universal champion Roman Reigns is certainly entering enemy territory this weekend. A feverish Montreal crowd ate up every moment of Zayn's closing speech on Friday's episode of SmackDown. Kevin Owens has been absent since the Royal Rumble, but Friday night was very much the "Sami Zayn Show." The plucky underdog could hardly get a word out as his hometown crowd showered him in chants, praise and song. It was a moment that will be remembered quite fondly in the rich history of WWE in Canada. SmackDown also featured an intercontinental championship match between GUNTHER and No. 1 contender Madcap Moss. The challenger cemented himself as the top contender by winning a fatal four-way match the previous week on SmackDown.

Reigns evoked the name of his opponent's late father, "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes in an effort to get under the challenger's skin. Reigns is looking ahead to WrestleMania but is still dealing with the aftermath of Elimination Chamber. The Bloodline has been fighting a war on two fronts, but now they must contend with the united strength of Cody Rhodes and Sami Zayn. Two of WWE's most popular heroes took the fight to The Usos on WWE SmackDown. Rhodes will challenge Roman Reigns for the undisputed WWE universal championship at WrestleMania 39. Reigns narrowly left Elimination Chamber in Montreal, Quebec with his titles after a back-and-forth battle with Zayn. The two challengers joined forces and went after The Usos on Friday night. The first inductee into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023 was also announced on Friday. In a rare move, WWE named a regularly active performer to their Hall of Fame. Legendary masked luchador Rey Mysterio will be inducted the night before WrestleMania 39.

WWE SmackDown results: Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn hug it out, plant seeds for WrestleMania showdown with Usos​

You have to give the people what they want. Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn did just that by giving into the WWE universe's demands for them to make up. As WrestleMania 39 approaches, the puzzle pieces started coming together on WWE SmackDown. Cody Rhodes' attempts to mend fences between estranged best friends Owens and Zayn appeared obsolete early Friday night. By the end of SmackDown, however, the friendship was persevered. A heated, emotional confrontation between enemies-turned-friends-turned-enemies Jey Uso and Zayn closed out SmackDown and served as a catalyst for the Owens-Zayn
reunion. Friday's episode also further fleshed out the WrestleMania match card. GUNTHER finally learned who he will defend his intercontinental championship at on the grand stage and an entirely new match was added to the lineup.

• Rey Mysterio confronted Dominik Mysterio post-match. Rey Mysterio confessed that he wasn't the most present father, but that it did not deter his love for his son, and that the quality of life his children were afforded is because of that absence. Rey Mysterio wished for his son to stand by his side at his Hall of Fame ceremony and said he would whoop Dominik Mysterio at WrestleMania if he were anyone but his son.
• Liv Morgan and Raquel Rodriguez def. Emma and Tegan Knox via pinfall after Morgan and Rodriguez landed Oblivion and a Texana Bomb, respectively, on Emma. They qualify for a fatal four-way tag team match at WrestleMania 39.
• Charlotte Flair got the upper hand in a brawl with Ripley that kicked off following a cheapshot by Ripley.
• Xavier Woods def. LA Knight via pinfall after rolling up Woods with a small package.
• The Great Muta was announced for the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2023.
• Rey Mysterio clocked Knight backstage for calling Mysterio "a deadbeat dad."
• Drew McIntyre vs. Sheamus ended in a draw after Imperium attacked both men. Authority figure Adam Pearce announced post-match that GUNTHER would defend the intercontinental title against both McIntyre and Sheamus at WrestleMania 39.

WWE SmackDown results: Rey Mysterio vs. Dominik Mysterio set for WrestleMania 39, Rhodes vs. Sikoa set for Raw​

You can poke a man all you want but never insult his wife. That is the level of antagonizing it took for Rey Mysterio to finally accept Dominik Mysterio's challenge for a father vs. son match at WrestleMania 39. The legendary luchador finally got the better of his petulant son on Friday's episode of WWE SmackDown. Dominik Mysterio had poked at, insulted and physically assaulted his dad for months. Rey Mysterio, who will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame the night before WrestleMania, had steadfastly refused to physically confront his kin. That all changed when Dominik Mysterio yelled in his mom's face on Friday's show. SmackDown also played host to the ongoing rivalry between Sami Zayn and The Bloodline ahead of Cody Rhodes vs. Roman Reigns for the undisputed WWE universal championship on night two of WrestleMania.
