Tai became the fourth player from Georgia Tech to win the NCAA individual title, and first since Troy Matteson in 2002. The victory earned him a trip to the Masters next year. The other Georgia Tech individual champions were Matteson, Charlie Yates (1934) and Watts Gunn (1927).

Shields (14-0, 2 KOs) and Lepage-Joanisse (7-1, 2 KOs) of Quebec will headline the boxing card at Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, where nearly 12,000 fans watched the Flint, Michigan, native defend her undisputed middleweight title against Maricela Cornejo a year ago in dominant fashion. ESPN has Shields ranked No. 1 in the women's pound-for-pound rankings. Shields won gold medals in the women's middleweight division at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, making her the first boxer from the United States to win consecutive Olympic medals. She is the only American to win Olympic gold in boxing since 2004.
Saban, Meyer, Donald on College Football Hall of Fame ballot
Saban retired earlier this year after 17 seasons as Alabama coach. He won six national championships with the Crimson Tide and another with LSU in 2003 for a record seven career titles. In 28 years as a college head coach with Toledo, Michigan State, LSU and Alabama, Saban was 297-71-1. Meyer won three national titles during his 17-season career as a college head coach, two with Florida and one with Ohio State in 2014. He also had stops at Bowling Green and Utah. He retired from Ohio State after the 2018 season with a record of 187-32.

Florida finished third in the 1,600-meter relay to pass Auburn -- which failed to qualify for the final event -- in the team standings Friday night for the Gators' third straight NCAA men's outdoor track and field championship and fifth in eight seasons. Florida finished with 41 points to edge the Tigers by one. USC followed with 33, Alabama had 32 and Texas A&M 31. The Aggies broke the school and meet record in the relay at 2 minutes, 58.37 seconds.

College Football Playoff to begin Dec. 20, oppose NFL on Dec. 21
The first year of the 12-team College Football Playoff will kick off with a first-round game on Dec. 20 and conclude with the title game one month later in Atlanta, it was announced Wednesday. The four first-round CFP games will be Dec. 20 and 21. ABC and ESPN will televise games on Friday and Saturday night with an 8 p.m. EST kickoff, while TNT will have the Dec. 21 afternoon games at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. The afternoon games will go up against a pair of NFL games with Houston-Kansas City at 1 p.m. and Baltimore-Pittsburgh at 4:30 p.m. The four first-round games, which will be played on college campuses, will be announced on Dec. 8. TNT has a pair of games through a sublicense with ESPN. ESPN's $7.8 billion deal with the CFP, which was announced in March, allowed it to sublicense games to other networks. Financial terms of the sublicense were not announced.
