Source: NCAA presents tournament plans for 72, 76 teams

The NCAA has presented a plan to Division I conference commissioners that would expand the men's and women's basketball tournaments by four or eight teams alongside an option to leave each field at 68 teams, a source confirmed to ESPN on Thursday. The proposals were outlined to the commissioners this week by NCAA senior vice president of basketball Dan Gavitt and NCAA vice president for women's basketball Lynn Holzman, the source said. Under the proposal, expansion of the 68-team field included both four- and eight-team models. The NCAA would keep its 64-team bracket but would add play-in games involving the Nos. 10 through 12 seeds. There are many in college basketball who have said they believe the 68-team fields and three weekends of play are ideal, but pressure has grown to add teams and games to one of the most popular sports events on the U.S. calendar. Last year, the NCAA Division I board of directors approved recommendations that included allowing one-quarter of teams in larger sports to compete in championship events; in that scenario, the March Madness tournaments could expand to nearly 90 teams.

Jake Paul to fight Mike Perry on original Mike Tyson date

Jake Paul will not wait for Nov. 15 to get back into a boxing ring. Paul has decided to keep the date that was slated for the blockbuster showdown with legendary heavyweight Mike Tyson and will instead face mixed martial artist and the Bare Knuckle Fighting Championship's "Platinum" Mike Perry (5-0, 3 KOs BKFC) in an eight-round cruiserweight bout at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida. Paul was originally scheduled to face Tyson at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on July 20 in an event to be livestreamed on Netflix. Tyson, 57, was forced out of the fight because of medical issues, and that fight was rescheduled for Nov. 15. Rather than wait for the new date, Paul (9-1, 6 KOs) decided to not squander a training camp and will stay busy by facing the undefeated BKFC fighter in the event billed as "Fear No Man," which will be available via DAZN Pay Per View.

The conference's 12-year deal with Fox and CBS expires at the end of the upcoming 2024-25 season and averaged $41.67 million per year. With the increased revenue, the Big East should also be on better financial footing with the Power 4 conferences, especially since it doesn't have football.
