I know people always say "it'll look better in motion" and maybe that's true for costumes but I don't see how those tattoos are going to look better in motion.
And yeah. The Cap uniform in "Avengers" was unfortunate. It looked promising--until the cowl was on and then he looked like someone from "Mystery Men" or "Kick-Ass" or something. But I did like the line where Coulson was showing him the costume and Cap says something like "I'd have thought America had gone out of style by now" or something and Coulson says something about thinking it is just what people need right now. The Marvel people get it.
It's funny, because I make exactly the opposite argument about Star Trek--the problem with '90s Trek is everyone is perfect and evolved and there are no conflicts. The only good TNG etc is when people are having problems and showing emotions and such. But I don't want that in Superman. Superman is about hope. It is about putting that darkness aside and giving people something to believe in. Look at the original "Superman"--particularly Lois' interview/date. She asks him what he stands for or something and he says "Truth, justice, and the American way" and she replies "You're going to be battling every politician in Washington." But to keep him from being too Boy Scout when she makes the Peter Pan comment, he says "Peter Pan flew with children, Lois. In a fairy tale." And proceeds to make her so moist that she can't walk when they get back.
It definitely has very impressive visuals. Ma Kent sure seems like a bitch, doesn't she? But so was Jonathan in Man of Steel. Looks like it could be good anyway. But also I hated Man of Steel so I'm still skeptical.
Damn them. Everything I've seen prior to that, this thing looked like a train wreck. That looked interesting. I'm still not seeing it in first run, but I might pay $4.50 to watch it with a pizza and a beer.
The Batman stuff looks better than I expected (because I thought all images of Affleck as Batman looked kind of silly up until now.) Superman still looks lacking in personality though. I think the biggest problem with Man of Steel was that I didn't give a fuck about Superman.
Indeed. Some of the shots from the Entertainment Weekly story left me thinking "Nicholas Cage's Big Daddy in 'Kickass' was a more convincing Batman." The shots of Wonder Woman have me thinking that she fits into the story too. And the Lex Luthor bits didn't hurt my opinion (although I thought Lex looked a bit young and they certainly didn't improve my opinion either), but the almost subliminal clip of someone underwater didn't do anything to make me think there's space in this movie for Aquaman. It's like:
