Yes, Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey checked on the price to change from No. 22 to No. 5. Sources told me it would be more than $1 million. As for actually changing to his college number, McCaffrey said: “It won't be this year. We'll see. I haven't made my mind up. That's a number that means a lot to me.''

Christian McCaffrey on new Panthers QB Sam Darnold: “He's very sharp. That's something that is very exciting early. His decision making has been good. Sam's very talented. He's smart. He knows where to go with the ball. I love how everyone is responding to his urgency.''

Panthers coach Matt Rhule said he just wants QB Sam Darnold to "get better'' as he does every player. Darnold has a lot to learn about the new system. He also still has moving in to do. He's still trying to buy all the furniture he needs. He doesn't have a bed frame yet, so his mattress is on the floor. He has half of a sectional couch.

Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey on his health after missing 13 games last season: “I feel good. I feel really good. I'm back to 100 percent and feel ready to roll.''

TJ Olsen, son of former Carolina Panthers TE Greg Olsen, says 'thank you' for support following heart transplant

The son of retired Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen on Monday gave a touching thanks from his hospital bed to all those who have supported him during his heart transplant. "Hi everybody,'' 8-year-old TJ Olsen said in a 12-second video posted by his father on social media. "Thank you for thinking of me. Thank you for praying with me. We love you guys, bye.'' TJ got his new heart on Friday, eight days after going on the transplant list and two weeks after entering the hospital with his failing heart. His father has given updates throughout the process, saying over the weekend doctors were able to close TJ's chest and "all early signs have been positive.'' With each message the three-time Pro Bowl selection has provided pictures and personal insight on what TJ and his family have gone through, reminding constantly that TJ "is a fighter.''

Carolina Panthers, OT Taylor Moton reach four-year, $72M extension, NFL sources say
The Panthers selected the 6-foot-5, 325-pound Moton in the second round of the 2017 draft out of Western Michigan. Moton, 26, became the starting right tackle in 2018 and has started every game for Carolina over the past three seasons.

Why tight end could be the 'most important position' in lifting Panthers' offense
Tight ends were practically nonexistent in Brady’s system a year ago. They combined for an NFL-low 204 receiving yards, the third fewest from a tight end group in the last 10 years,

Don't sell Panthers' Christian McCaffrey short after injury-plagued 2020

McCaffrey, who in 2019 became the third player in NFL history to have 1,000 yards rushing and receiving in the same season, dropped from second heading into last year. Despite missing most of last season, McCaffrey’s average of 1,456.5 yards from scrimmage per season since entering the league ranks second to Kamara’s 1,541 and his 114.1 scrimmage yards per game ranks first. McCaffrey has three fewer touchdowns than Kamara’s 48, and Kamara has missed four games in four seasons. Despite playing three games in 2020, McCaffrey became the third player in NFL history with at least 3,000 career rushing yards and 2,500 receiving in his fourth season.

The Panthers as a league source has confirmed are among the NFL leaders with at least an 85 percent Covid-19 vaccine rate. No word yet on whether that includes quarterback Sam Darnold, who during OTA's said he had not been vaccinated. But the 85 percent could be a competitive advantage regardless.

From 2018-2020, Taylor Moton ranked 2nd and 11th among tackles in run block win rate and pass block win rate, respectively. Last season, Moton ranked 9th and 16th in RBWR and PBWR, respectively. (ESPN / NFL Next Gen Stats)

Panthers receiver Keith Kirkwood suffered a serious injury Tuesday after taking a hit to the head/neck from reserve safety JT Ibe. Kirkwood immediately fell to the ground and laid motionless. He was placed on a board and carted off. The Panthers have not made a formal announcement about Kirkwood's injury. Head coach Matt Rhule addressed the team and kicked Ibe out of practice.

After releasing rookie safety J.T. Ibe earlier in the day following his illegal hit of a teammate in practice, the Panthers claimed linebacker Nate Hall off waivers from the Texans. Hall adds depth at a position that is thin, particularly with starting OLB Shaq Thompson missing the first day of padded practice with an injury. He is the second linebacker added to the roster in two days.

As Panthers GM Scott Fitterer promised, a lot of roster turnover. Carolina signed safety Brian Cole, a seventh-round pick of the Vikings in 2020 out of Mississippi State. Wide receiver Ventell Bryant was waived. Cole is the fifth roster addition this week.

Panthers owner David Tepper was asked on the team telecast of FanFest how it felt to have fans in the stands at Bank of America Stadium. He replied, "It feels pretty freaking great. It feels like football.'' He was at training camp in Spartanburg on Thursday and noted he didn't have to run touch the "DBO'' -- Don't Beat Ourselves -- sign, so guess he didn't make a mistake.
