Looking forward to seeing second-round pick Terrace Marshall Jr. as he attempts to emerge as the third receiver in a talented room. He's made some splashes in camp, and that needs to continue in preseason games. Keeping an eye on rookie TE Tommy Tremble as well. He's known for being an outstanding blocker, but what can he do as a receiver?

PJ Walker made his case to be the Panthers' backup in the first half, completing 10 of 21 pass attempts for 161 yards and a touchdown. Solid but still not great in the red zone. Will Grier gets his shot in the second half as Carolina goes into halftime with a 15-10 lead.

That DBO (Don't Beat Ourselves) sign the Panthers have been running to in camp after mistakes doesn't appear to be working. Carolina had 10 penalties, six false starts, in Sunday's 21-18 loss at Indianapolis. Multiple false starts came with the game on the line. There were good things, too. P.J. Walker played well as the backup QB. But as Matt Rhule has preached all camp mistakes beat you.

Panthers quarterback PJ Walker said he didn't play his best football when with the Colts (2017-19). Said he thought too much. Being reunited with Matt Rhule, his coach at Temple, seems to have helped. "Once the game gets going my body is completely numb to every situation. I'm more loose in games,'' Walker said after Sunday's 21-18 loss to the Colts.

Carolina Panthers News

Panthers GM Scott Fitterer said a lot of good things about first-round pick Jaycee Horn today after a joint practice against the Ravens. "He's got that alpha mentality You guys saw that out there today. He's right in the middle of everything. He's vocal. He's tough. A lot of guys can be vocal and not back it up. Jaycee's a guy who backs it up. He's the real deal when it comes to that.''

Rookie DT Daviyon Nixon had two of the Panthers' five interceptions during team drills on Thursday, the last day of camp, against the Ravens. Nixon, 6-foot-3 and 305 pounds took both to the house. Asked if anyone could have tackled him, Nixon deadpanned, "They didn't do it at Penn State.'' Nixon had a 71-yard pick-six last year to wrap up a win against Penn State. "We'll never hear the end of him now,'' defensive coordinator Phil Snow said.

Five takeaways from the Wofford College portion of the Panthers camp that ended Thursday: 1. QB Sam Darnold still has a lot to prove. 2. LT Cam Erving may have been "excellent'' as Matt Rhule said, but injuries are a concern. 3. First-round pick Jaycee Horn truly is an "alpha'' as GM Scott Fitterer called him and will be a difference maker. 4. DC Phil Snow has a lot of great pieces to work with & will force more turnovers this season. 5. C.J. Saunders deserves a spot in crowded WR room.

Panthers safety Jeremy Chinn won't arrive to home games wearing just anything. As he said Friday on the NFL Network he'll wear the jersey of a Carolina sports legend, autograph it and get it signed by the legend, and then auction it off and donate proceeds to the legend's charity. For Saturday night's game against the Ravens he'll wear the No. 1 jersey of long-time Hornets guard Muggsy Bogues. The possibilities are endless, from Michael Jordan to Julius Peppers to maybe even Richard Petty.

Carolina Panters, Robby Anderson reach 2-year extension
Anderson is coming off a career-high 95 catches for 1,096 yards in an offense that was missing McCaffrey for 13 games. He believes he can be even better moving forward.

'Hardwired a special way:' Why Panthers want more 'alphas' like rookie Jaycee Horn
The Panthers have other players, such as running back Christian McCaffrey and linebacker Shaq Thompson, who have alpha characteristics. But none take it to Horn’s level in terms of being vocal and sometimes in your face.
