Let's say Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey maintains his pace of 30 touches a game and has 510 for the season. Is that a record? Yep. The most touches in a season is 492 by James Wilder with Tampa Bay in 1984, per ESPN Stats and Info. And that was in 16 games.
Panthers TE Dan Arnold on what Sunday's win over the Jets meant to quarterback Sam Darnold, who spent the last three seasons in New York: "I think Sam definitely wanted this for sure. Even without talking to him directly about it, I think he kind of wanted to prove he's got everything the Jets wanted and they were dumb for getting rid of him.''
Getting RG John Miller back could be key for the Panthers against a good New Orleans defense that will bring pressure. On one of the key plays of Sunday's game Miller's replacement, Dennis Daley, whiffed on a spin move by the Jets tackle. Had it not been for Christian McCaffrey stepping in Sam Darnold likely would have been sacked and the 57-yard touchdown pass to Robby Anderson would not have happened.
The Panthers didn't use the "Keep Pounding'' prompt on the stadium scoreboard on Sunday to fire up fans, and that got a fired-up reaction on social media from fans. A team spokesperson said the team just tried something new, reminding that the "Keep Pounding'' drum still was used prior to kickoff. The prompt will return for Sunday's game against the Saints, but maybe not every game. Fans, according to the spokesperson, are encouraged to shout the chant without being prompted.
