Defiance

Just watched it and I think it was very good. Amazing cast, very good CGI (especially considering this is TV), seamless make-up and prosthetics on the actors playing aliens, a rousing story and holy shit, Jaime Murray is beautiful. It was fun seeing two Dexter alumni on the show too.

So SOOOO much better than Revolution. God, I hate Charlie.

The CGI was mostly good but the part at the very start with the alien fleet around Earth looked like a video game cutscene (or did they literally take it out of the Defiance videogame?)

New episode was interesting. St Louis under the terraformed land was interesting. A bit odd, though, if you know of St. Louis' layout. The Gateway Arch is located right next to the main city, where all of those big buildings would be. Also, St. Louis isn't a metropolis. The city expands for miles in every direction and is mostly urban sprawl, not tall buildings. I know a good bit about the city's history, so the inconsistencies annoyed me.

Other than that, the ending with a cover of Nirvana's "Come As You Are" was pretty good. Not sure how I feel about perverting a grunge song into something more melodic, but I think Cobain wouldn't have minded.

The effects showing St. Louis as a ruined cavernous city were really well done. Liked the touch of the flying creatures in the background when they were in the park.

One thing I really tip my hat for is not going into a flashback when Irisa was upset about the man being tortured. They showed her scars and that was enough.

If the rest of the show moves along like this, it will be a great series to watch.

Jaime (sp?) Murray does not grab me I am afraid. I saw her on hustlers and put her into the "pouters" sub category filed under "angular big faces"

Jaime Murray...?

Kinda liked last night's episode. The writing was a bit lazy at times (hell bug poop, and the elevator conveniently breaking down, then easily being fixed JUST IN TIME), but I enjoyed Irisa's interaction with alien guy in a top hat.

Datak is always so obviously conniving. Terrible face acting.

Really? I hadn't noticed. For some reason I keep thinking he's being played by Brent Spiner. And I don't think its the closeness of their character names: Datak/Data

He does look like Data! But every time he does something conniving, he smirks and looks around, so we'll know he's up to something.

True, he does ham it up a bit, but that's just his character, I presume. Their race seems to be prone to excessive facial expressions.

I hope they veer away from the noble savage thing they've started with Irisa and the other Irathients. It's probably too late, since they named Sukar's group "Spirit Riders".

I watched it today but can't remember anything that happened...wait, was the whore with a heart of gold rubbing food into some guy?

Devil in the Dark?! Are you fucking kidding me? A bunch of miners are getting killed by some "monsterous" thing. Well. not precisely the same.

I kinda thought it smacked more of Starship Troopers more than anything.

Except the title's the same as ST;TOS Devil in the Dark. Miners encounter a silicon monster. mother horta. Defiance. Miners encounter a monster, A whore...
