DOLLHOUSE SEASON TWO discussion thread

Fox gave the show much more of a chance than any of us expected them to.. it just wasn't good enough. There's no way they'll give the lead to anyone but Dushku so there's not much chance for the show to have consistently good episodes.

As much as its easy to knock the studio, they aren't charities, if Joss keeps giving them shows that are absolutely loved by millions, but still not enough people to make them money, they will stop making them.

Oh those poor studios. Airing the show on the worst night of the week for ratings, at the same time as other shows shared by the target demographic, surrounded by shows completely of no interest to the target demographic, and stop airing the show for a month for no real reason... and then complain that no one is watching.

I'll weep for them, it's not their fault!!!!!

I KNOW YOU LOVE IT TOMTREK! srsly though, a lot of people wanted to love it because it's Joss Whedon, but the show just never was that good, except a few exceptional episodes that didn't focus so much on Echo. If it had been more about the ensemble and less about Echo I think it could have been terrific. It really doesn't matter that it's on Fridays, I don't think any other day of the week would have helped the ratings much.

It's not a perfect show, no, but I do think it's a lot better than several other shows that get higher ratings AND seem to stick around forever (see Heroes or Smallville). People will watch shit shows if they're on at the right time and promoted enough.

The fact is that Fox stuck in in the timeslot of death while lettting it slowly die, and did nothing to help it survive.

UGLY BETTY IS ON THE SAME NIGHT AND PROBABLY DOOMED TOO EXCEPT IT WILL LAST A FULL SEASON BEFORE ABC PRETENDS TO BE SAD ABOUT CANCELING IT SO I FEEL YOUR PAIN MATES.

SO, it's back, and with good episodes that make you say "they shouldn't cancel this!" But it's too late...

I liked the complicated story and how Rossum were going to hang the LA Dollhouse out to dry (and given how many times they've screwed up it makes sense), although by the end I wasn't sure what the original plan was or if it was always meant to end with Wesley making that speech (I guess they could have faked his wife's death in the original plan) or if they were just improvising...anyway, it was good.

The second episode was better because there was so much SUMMER GLAU, of course. She lived up to expectations AND THEN SOME as an adorable but crazy one-armed genius. I shared Topher's love for her then frustration when she went evil on him. Hope she's back before the end of the seaosn (I think I read she's in three episodes so she should be.)

Does her history with Caroline fit Caroline's backstory? How did she go from being an activist to the cheif programmer so quickly?

The DC dollhouse was pretty cool in how different and more evil it was from the usual LA one.

The guy who plays Victor is really good. He WAS Topher in those scenes. Scary.

The bit with Dushku and Wesley cutting the GPS trackers out was quite erotic.

Dushku actually got some good lines: "You just woke up a lot of people...and they all think you're an asshole!" And the one about her bad guys being badder or something. I liked it when Welsey's wife said "oh God, doll speak" in the second episode.

IT WAS GOOD, SUMMER GLAU IS NICE

Oh, THANKS Dollhouse.

Now you start with the "interesting plots" and "deep and complex characters" and "interesting to watch action scenes" and "making a really good show you want to watch".

Now.

WHEN IT DOESN'T MATTER.

(Summer was lovely)

(evil, but in a lovely way)

Also if anything it shows that Enver Gjokaj (Victor) should've been the star of the show from day 1. Dude can act. He literally WAS Topher.

id stick it in her mouth then push her head thru a window on ejaculation impact

(she was different from River)

One of the annoying things about Dollhouse I find is the opening credits. I mean it has all the names of the other cast members, but all you see if Eliza Dushku, Eliza Dushku, Eliza Dushku. You're sick of seeing her by the time they end!

They should've added more people in the credits.

Sure, she was different from River, technically, but she's still playing damaged goods nerd bait that viewers can fantasize about white knighting.

EPISODE SEVEN: I was a bit confused at the start as I didn't remember Keith Carradine taking over the dollhosue last week (but a lot happened last week so I could have forgot), but it all worked out. I liked how they made it look like DeWitt was the "good" one and concerned about the wellfare of her dolls and Topher was turning "bad" and was all excited at being the new boss's pet...but the opposite was true. So it's DeWitt's fault that Rossum gets the technology that causes the next world war. I guess that's why she was taking care of Topher in the future and being all GUILTY.

The Echo story was pretty good as I always enjoy a good training montage. Helo's acting was pretty unconvincing though.

EPISODE EIGHT: This one was the better of the two. Alan Tudyk was great as Alpha this time, better than last season I'D SAY. Of course since Ballard was shown to be alive in the future in Epitaph One we know he's going to wake up so I suppose that ruins the suspense a bit.

THEY WERE GOOD EPISODES AND I WATCHED THEM
