General wrestling discussion

OK, didn't see that one coming. Looks like he was too much of an injury liability. He was over with the crowd and looked destined for main event status eventually. High profile cull.

Apparently the reason he got fired was because he fucked up Orton with a suplex on RAW (I watched it this morning and did noticed Orton looked pissed afterwards and rolled out of the ring) and Orton got him fired (or complained about him and they decided to cut their loses.)

Orton has fucked up loads of moves in his time. I've also read rumours it was a voluntary release, as he has a terminally ill relative he has been caring for. If that's the case, why go ahead with the comeback, then go?

Who knows. Who really cares? (Meltzer).

The early word on Mr. Kennedy's surprising release from World Wrestling Entertainment tonight is that almost injuring Randy Orton as well as himself during his match on Raw on Monday night was the straw that broke the camel's back.

Kennedy made his return to Raw on Monday night after a ten month hiatus rehabbing a badly injured shoulder. As bad luck would have it, Kennedy ended up injuring his wrist after taking the RKO from Orton. Much more seriously in the eyes of management, Orton nearly re-injured his bad shoulder as a result of an errant maneuver on the part of Kennedy.

Following the show, Orton and Kennedy had words backstage, although it was not heated. Very calmly, Orton dressed him down, telling him he needed to be more careful so he wouldn't injure anyone else in the ring.

I'm still waiting for Heidenreich to come back. :(

But surely, ring rust would have had a factor there? Ten months out the ring and all.

I guess they've just been pissed at him for a while and they thought "FUCK IT, HE CAN BE TNA'S PROBLEM." Or it was the terminally ill relative.

SO Extreme Rules was last night.

SPOILERS FOLLOW

Kofi Kingstone won a fourway over Williams Regal, Matt Hardy and MVP - Almost more like a showcase for Kofi than an actual match. They've certainly been giving him a lot of wins lately, but will they actually get behind him completely and push him to the next level? Probably not.

Jericho beat Rey for the IC title - I thought Jericho might have hurt himself early on since they seemed to clash heads and mess up a few spots, but they rebounding and had their usual great match. Finish was cool too with Rey going for the 619 but Jericho pulling his mask off in mid move and rolling him for the pin.

CM Punk beat Umaga in a strap match - Strap matches kind of suck so they did the best they could.

Tommy Dreamer beat Jack Swagger and Christian in a threeway for the ECW title - Yep, Tommy Dreamer's the ECW champion in 2009. So he's not retiring yet. Pretty good match.

Santina beat Vickie in the hog pen match - Stupid shit, obviously. They both (and Chavo) gave good performances to make it watchable. But it's about time to scrap the Santina gimmick.

Batista beat Orton for the title in a cage match - This was totally weird. Why take the belt off Orton? Why give it to Batista AGAIN when he'll obviously just lose it back in a few weeks? And why did the match seem like it only lasted five minutes? Weird.

Cena beat Big Show in a submission match - WHY cut the cage match short (if that's what they did) then let this shit go on for 20 minutes? Just another boring Cena/Show match. The finish was supposed to have Cena trapped Show's foot in the rope and Cena putting him in the STF, but Show's foot slipped out the rope and they just pretended it was still stuck. GAY.

Jeff Hardy beat Edge for the title in a ladder match - Good match as you'd expect from these two in a ladder match. The ending was a surprise since Hardy is supposed to be leaving soon, BUT WAIT...

CM Punk beat Jeff Hardy for the title - Yes Punk cashed in the money in the bank. He got booed quite a lot, so I guess he's turning heel.

Okay show.

Rednecks react to the end of the show (spoiler inside obviously).

Fucking classic.

Do you know what would have been better? Instant Twist of Fate onto the belt from Jeff, who then spits on him, an and beats the shit out him with a chair. Jeff Hardy heel turn - bit more interesting.

The rednecks would still like him.

That sounds like a dumb move. He's old.

Mitsuharu Misawa, one of the greatest pro wrestlers of all-time, was declared dead at 10:10 p.m. Saturday night at a hospital in Hiroshima from an apparent heart attack after being being given a back suplex in a tag team title match.

Misawa would have turned 47 on June 18th.

Misawa, the president of Pro Wrestling NOAH, was teaming with Go Shiozaki in a match challenging Bison Smith & Akitoshi Saito for the GHC tag team championship in Hiroshima. Misawa was given the move at about 8:45 p.m. and knocked unconscious. They were about 27 minutes into the match when the referee immediately stopped the match seeing what had happened.

According to eye witness reports, Saito gave Misawa a "routine" back suplex that was described as a "7" in danger on a scale of one-to-ten. He did not get up. It was chaos in the ring as they attempted to revive him using CPR and the crowd was hushed for a while, and began a "Misawa" chant. He turned purple in the ring and was rushed to the hospital in an ambulance.

His heart stopped beating in the ring.

The wrestlers were told on the bus that he had passed away.

While it is being reported that he passed away at the hospital, he may have actually passed away in the ring.

Misawa was the Japanese high school national wrestling champion at 187 pounds in 1980, and was recruited by Giant Baba into All Japan Pro Wrestling. He gained his first taste of stardom in 1984 when he was chosen to be the second Tiger Mask. After unmasking in 1990, he became an even bigger star after a series of singles matches with Jumbo Tsuruta.

He was Japan's biggest pro wrestling star of the 90s, and one could make a strong case for him as the top wrestler of the decade. He was the Wrestler of the Year in 1995, 1997 and 1999.

After the death of Shohei "Giant" Baba, Misawa wrestled a little over one more year for All Japan Pro Wrestling, while working as company president. After consistently butting heads with owner Motoko Baba, the widow of Shohei Baba, he and 90% of the All Japan roster quit the company to form Pro Wrestling NOAH.

The movie "The Wrestler" opened tonight in Japan. Because of the finish of the movie, this has become part of the story in some outlets in Japan.

This would be equivalent with someone like Shawn Michales dying in the ring.

Aye, Misawa was easily one of the biggest Japanese names. That's a huge pity.

I've watched quite a few of his matches. Always quite brutal heavy contact stuff. He literally gave his life for wrestling.

For someone who devoted his life to wrestling, I can think of no better way to go, than doing what he loved to do.

...yeah, dying aged 46 is a great way to go.

Could die with your hand cum-stuck to an Anime porn DVD case, in a room surrounded with fucked up Japanese anime merch, I guess.
