I never said I believed the MF is elitist bullshit troll(well except for a year or so after I first joined). I just said I could see how someone might think the MF is elitist. Playing devil's advocate as it were. I like the MF/MF'ers. After all Cassie once told me I was an MF'er that was slumming in the Badlands.

What a giant load of bullshit. The MF is a clique. Not only is it a clique, but it's a clique that absolutely doesn't want to deal with the rest of TK. How do I know this? Because you don't post threads in the forums they should be posted in. A good 80% of what's posted here should be in one of the above ground forums.

Examples:
  • ALL threads related to TV shows (Dr. Who, Lost, Caprica, True Blood, etc.)
  • Any thread about hot chicks can go in Media. (we really should have a mild Adult forum anyway)
  • "Post your Desktop" threads.
  • If we still had a sports forum, all Soccer stuff could go there.
  • All of the BB stuff really should be an offshoot of Media, too.

All of the interpersonal stuff used to go in SF or TR before the mass migration down here because of the commie retards. Well, the commie retards are gone. All that're left are people who want to uphold the community.

There are only a handful of people who post everywhere.

Really, someone explain to me why we have FOUR off topic fora? FOUR!?

What I'd like to know is, why does it matter that we post what we want to talk about in the MF, with the people we want to talk to? People who want to post in the other forums are free to do so.

It really doesn't matter, but you shouldn't deny the insular nature of the place while doing so. ;)

We really don't need to go in to the history of the MF and how it formed and how it has maintained itself and TK over the years again.

TK is a big board with millions of posts and yet the people who chose to make this forum in to what it is are vilified and seen as a threat to everyone else with their wicked elitist ways? It doesn't compute.

After all this time do you really think it would be a smart or productive move to tell everyone down here that they can't post the "80%" of content they create in the forum they built in to a community and to start sheep herding them in to different fora?

I will conceed that it is a bit of a shame that TK became so repellent to many here that they can't be bothered to "play" with some of the others on this board. There are a lot of good posters who don't post in the MF but there are also a lot of drooling retards with personalities that make me want to slap their crack addict mothers and the vast majority of the posters here don't want to deal with them and have their threads constantly derailed and I'm not going to tell them they should start now and deconstruct the Mine Field after all these years just to spread out some threads so the rest of the board can benefit from the creativity of those who post here. At the same time I'm not going to stop freedom of expression on TK and so the drooling retards will always be a by product of that.

The Mine Field doesn't push any agenda on anyone and gets on fine quietly in its one fora and couple of sub fora. Why it should create such indignation is beyond me. The curse of success I guess. It may be a micro climate but there is nothing wrong with that and I simply fail to see the big problem.

TK has suffered for a long time with a lack of posts in its Bizarre Bazaar section but that can hardly be levelled solely at the door of the MF. The "rest" of TK has never had a strong community in those sections.

But regulating what can and can't be posted by the MF community in the MF is going to solve nothing and will probably only drive people away.
 
It matters because I would really like to see more traffic everywhere else. What's ironic is that you've stuffed yourselves down here thinking you're posting with your friends and if you post elsewhere, you'll have to deal with people who aren't in your circle of friends, but the truth of the matter is that TK is so low on membership, you're still only dealing with the same people.

What's really telling is the amount of irate posts my complaints gain. Yet, all I'm asking is that you try to play nicely with the rest of the board.
 
Menty, for the record, I'm not vilifying MFers. I'm exalting them. The posters down here are the elite. These people are the cockroaches of TK. They may have been displaced, but not removed. Their patronage is what TK needs in order to look like a functioning board to newcomers.

I'm not asking that you stop posting down here, but at this rate the entire board IS the MF.

I'm not irate in the slightest. It seems that a lot of people get irate with The Mine Field though and take exception to people and their posting habits. The Mine Field is open (ironically) to everyone on this board. It is not a secret forum and there are no hazing rituals one must go through to post here. As far as an insular community goes we're not that good at it.


I'm not denying that it might even be preferable if the MF was more diverse in its posting habits and the media forum was used for TV Shows and Movie discussion, ect but I will not be making any policy any time soon that requires those who post in the MF to take their threads to other fora.

I do not mind the discussion though. Although I am less than pleased at how it started this time around.
 
This forum was shaped in this way long, long ago. There's enough people who don't post here to shape any other forum and post as regularly as anyone does down here. It worked in The Badlands until all the infighting started, and that membership / citizenship idea killed it stone dead.

If they don't, then that's not this forum's fault. It's always been a free for all, and everyone who's been here long enough knows that.

Without trying to stir up too much shit (Aw who am I kidding, I love to stir up shit.) Conchaga does have a point in one regard. Although it is perfectly reasonable for minefielders or badlanders or other forum members to like their own personal playgrounds, it is better for the survival of the WHOLE board if an effort is made to place relevant topics in the forums created for them, and to at least check out other forums from time to time. I myself have occasionally hesitated to post a decent youtube or flash link in the media forum simply because I thought it probably would get ignored there or quickly buried.

On the other hand, I've also never felt like I was being excluded any moreso than average no matter what forum I posted in, so I guess the flipside is, if you want to be acknowledged then post something of value to those you want acceptance from. My mama used to say, bibble is as bibble does...[/gump]
