MF is locked

The badlands isn't really dead. It's just that the constant flooding minus a few posters has made it dwindle. The community is still there. I'd like to think that many of them took my advice and moved back upstairs now that a good 90% of the major retards have left.

It wouldn't hurt for other people to pull their head out of the sand, too.

I guess I post in here because I know at least in this forum you usually get a few replies, whereas the exact same thread, maybe even in the forum its supposed to go in, will probably get none.

The MF is for the most part friendly and fun, which isn't always the case in other forums.

I think of it more like a pub, sure I could go to other pubs, but I would rather stick with the one where I know the locals, and like the taste of the beer.

The only other forum at TK that interests me is AP, but it's hard to get anyone to talk politics and religion.. especially when the threads get derailed into bickering bullshit.

The MF is about the only place I've found on the net where you can post off the wall shit and people take it as it is meant to be taken.

I browse all over the boards, but there's nothing I really want to respond to. SF is just a bunch of starguard and osama posts, really. And the fuck if I'm clicking on those. I browse the Badlands, but other than LC's amusing erotic threads, there's nothing really there to post. At least for me.

Every once in a while I'll post in the Tea Room, or the media center, but I like it here in the MF and can be silly and stupid and sometimes just plain ignorant and be welcomed. :)

That's exactly my point. Since everyone has that mentality, nobody posts outside their little niche forums.

My insistent concern is due to the fact that I like this place. Have for a long time. It saddens me to see that this board has the potential to be awesome and draw hundreds of people. What irritates me are the people who claim to like this place, but only post in ONE forum and when asked, wouldn't lift a finger to post elsewhere because "people are icky"...

As for cassie Re: Ouch! I had articles written when I first got hired. However, the guy who was supposed to code the thing for me went all meltdowny and left (this thread is a monument to that). That left me to learn how to write HTML on my own. Articles are easy. HTML is a course all in its own. Besides that, I have a life outside of the internet and dedicating my FREE (I don't get paid) time to learning how to code HTML falls to the wayside. Today's different, as I'm horribly sick and my attention span for complicated things is limited.

Oh, and next time, don't let mm write your trolling material.

Seriously? This discussion started because some guy who happens to have admin power thought it would be a good idea to do something completely erratic and instantly reversible as a means to say 'hey, I'm back again after having gone undercover for weeks (months?) and what better way to do so than abusing said power?', and I can't for the life of me figure out why the fuck anyone should even care about the alleged intention of the action, let alone revive a discussion this board has had 10 times too often.

I don't care if anyone wants to stick to one forum. I simply don't care where a thread that might interest me is being posted. I see it, it interests me, I read and, sometimes, I post. I am aware of the slight differences between the tone of, say, SF and MF, but that's about all.

This is a message board. Post where you like, when you like, what you like. Please don't try imposing rules of society on this, because that would ultimately be the 'death' of TK, not some members who choose to post in one forum only.

Just my 2 cents.
Which are completely irate and founded on the conviction that, indeed, every MFer is an elitist, of course.

.

Are you really that bored to have an issue over this?

It's none of your business where people post, get over it.

Go outside or something.

Why is Ouch! a touchy subject, and why would mentioning it be considered trolling? We all know you were put on the staff because you kept bugging Menty about it. Have you asked anyone else to help with the coding? I'm sure there are a few people here with that kind of knowledge, and who are at least as trustworthy as Messy.

How many regular "MF only" posters are there? Maybe 4 or 5? Not really enough people to worry about.

The Mine Field evolved from a virus dump into a safe haven for the non-troll TK members who wanted to post without instantly getting their heads bitten off by the Old Troll Guard.

It's not our fault the trolls didn't stay.

I think the easier answer to making the board less bottom-heavy isn't bitching at MFers to post elsewhere; it's to change the name of the board. AND NO, IT SHOULDN'T BE CHANGED TO THE MINE FIELD -- but is this place really a troll kingdom now? Kids come here when they happen upon a link, and they scratch their heads, because what little actual trolling goes on is done in secret. (I don't count the whole Blackfoot crapfest as trolling, that's just bullshit bickering and infighting, which is driving away more users than it's drawing in...)

(Disclaimer: It's quite possible that this post is a troll in itself HA!)

As for the Badlands, well they're a great bunch of kids, but they were formed in the post-troll TK era, having already observed the MF as a template. They should be dealt with separately in this discussion. (I'm not saying anything good or bad about the BL by saying this -- I'm just adding perspective)

I think if anything, simply altering the name to "TK" is satisfactory. It is a nod to the rich history of the place, it's how most of us refer to it anyway, and to satisfy those of us who love wordplay, the universal symbol in writing and journalism when a writer has not yet named a place, character or source is the letters "TK".

Stems from early printing press days, when papers would pre-write a story they knew was on the way, then use TK as a placeholder for any names they didn't yet have. It stood for "to come" which is even more satisfactory entendre for this joint. The acronym was 'TK' instead of 'TC' because 'TC' occurred naturally in certain words while TK did not.
